Frankly, the dragons could get a lot less screen time than the direwolves have gotten so far and it would be in keeping with the books.

I don't think i am going to post in the other game of thrones thread. I will read it and mock them here but I won't post over there. I've had to edit several post for fear that they are spoilers.

As for the time line of events Ned's death, Green Forks and Whispering Woods (not in any particular order) are all in close proximity. In any case of order Robb had definitely left winterfell. The battles take place either before Ned's death or Robb being unaware of his death.

Why mock them?

I think he means make fun of assumptions they have just to amuse ourselves.

Yeah we definitely know Robb is already well away from Winterfell when Ned dies, because in one of the Bran point of view chapters we see word reaching winterfell of Ned's death. Bran and Rickon have both had dreams and they already realize what the raven's note will say before they even open it. Robb has already gone south at that point and Bran is acting as the Lord of Winterfell.

I always felt like Robb's terms for Jaime Lannister's release should have been "I want my father back you son of a *****!" Inigo Montoya style because from his POV he took Jaime prisoner while the Lannisters held Ned and then they killed him.

I read both scenes last night and I think the battles happen before Ned's execution at least in the order the book goes.

But it kind of makes sense that these battles would actually be after Ned's death since it seems like it would take longer to march from Winterfell, meet the Freys, and then set up the ambush of Jaime then it would for them to deal with Ned in King's Landing.

I believe the last scene with Robb in the books is the one where Robb and his army get the news of Eddard's death and they declare him King of the North.

Are the wolves always going to be normal wolf sized? The dead mom wolf was cerainly bigger. I too think the look of the dragons is a concern. Hope they do a good job with it.

Maybe season 2 they'll go to CGI wolves along with the dragons?

I, too, was wondering how big the wolves would get. From reading the books (I've only read the first one so far), I had the feeling they were practically horse sized.

As for the dragons....I kind of hope they don't have Dany nursing them when they're born. I thought that was just a tad ridiculous.

Do you think there is any chance we get a flashback of the Tower of Joy next week? Description of events there have always been vague and maybe for good reason but it would be interesting to see.

I think theres a decent chance we get some Ned fever dreams in epsiode 9.

I think maybe the Tower of Joy dream can only be handled properly by GRRM, which is probably why we haven't seen it yet. Only he understands the imagery well enough, and it is a crucially important scene. It has to be included or else Ned's promise to Lyanna isn't important to the story at all.

I actually would probably leave the "promise me Ned" out. Today's TV culture would jump all over that I think. I think for TV, you just need the fight vs the Kingsguard and Lyanna's death or else that scene is going to get tons of attention rather than being seen as just background info. If/when the promise turns out to be important Howland Reed can reveal that it was made much later on.

Great episode last night, but I don't see how they are going to fit the rest of book 1 into two more episodes.

Been awhile since I read the books, but did anybody else find it curious they didn't show Syrio dying?

I keep waiting to see if the show is going to deviate from the source material, like keeping a really interesting or likeable character like Syrio around. I think it will be a disaster if they do, though.

GRRM actually wrote the script for this episode (the only one of the series he has a credit for), perhaps he omitted it for a reason?

They never showed Syrio dying in the book, either. I think he is going to be the guy who ends up rescuing Arya from Braavos.

They don't "show" Syrio dying in the book, either. It's implied during Arya's perspective & discussed (I think) during a different perspective later on.

I doubt he is actually dead. And of course, with GRRM, you should never think it until it is flat out confirmed.

IMO he omitted it because there is a faction of lunatics that think Syrio Forel is actually still alive and he wanted to keep stringing them along.

As for Braavos no official map has been released for the continent on the other side of the sea but I believe it is a port city on the towards the north of that continent.

Its called the trident because 3 rivers (red, blue, and green forks) come together to form one distributary in the same general vicinity like a trident
