don't think it was odd. Many of us were merely pointing out the blatant political pandering and virtue signaling for that movie because of the subject matter and focus on black people. Coming out out during the height of BLM added to its virtue signal credentials.
What should the movie called Black Panther set in Africa have focused on instead?

How in earth do you get from his post that he thought it should have focused on something else. He was stating objective fact.

As humans, it's impossible to be objective.

Preach.

I was bored during it and the "instant girl Tony Stark" had me rolling my eyes….

That was dumb and she was unnecessary. And I laughed when she was talking street.

That part was awful.

But can't be criticized on this board

I don't know a single person in real life or on this board who likes that aspect of the movie. And no one here has ever said it shouldn't be criticized, or has scolded anyone for criticizing it, at least that I'm aware of. I've criticized it, and I've seen a sh*t ton of other posters criticize it. You're just pulling nonsense out of your ass at this point.

Hearing something surprising…sounds like there's a review embargo that won't be lifted for Echo until the 9 pm release date on January 9th.

Holy crap is it that bad???? Normally TC would be on here posting Twitter reactions and it hit me we haven't seen any and apparently this is why….

Honestly now I'm kinda intrigued if something is this bad does it start to cross over into the "so bad it's funny and entertaining" category???

All I know is that they filmed eight episodes, and that the first assembly cut of those eight episodes was so bad that they cut what they thought was salvageable down to five episodes. I've heard of various series cutting out a single episode worth of material, but never three. Who knows, maybe they were able to put together something compelling/worth watching in those five episodes. But yeah, the late embargo + the all-at-once drop isn't encouraging. Personally, unless reviews are somehow good, this will be the first live action Marvel series I either don't watch, or wait and knock out just before the Daredevil series next year, as a primer of sorts.

As someone who has read the main BP comic arc, I like the character and have zero issues with the setting or its inclusion in the MCU. I was commenting on the blatant over cheering of the movie with everyone in the media proclaiming it one of the best movies of the year.

And (I just checked) it's still currently sitting at 96% on RT which makes it the highest scoring MCU movie and one of the higher scoring films of all time on RT. That is patently absurd and only happened because of who was represented in it. It gave the media and others an opportunity to fall all over themselves to proclaim their allegiance of support to a skin color over the actual quality of a film.

Anyway, we've beat this horse to death for years. We can move on.

No way Echo is worse than Secret Invasion. But if anyone says it is, I'll avoid it for quite a while.

Secret Invasion was BOBF and Obi Wan bad. Just above fan fiction.

Perhaps a story about an older, somewhat jaded hero is not what everyone is looking for.

That and smart aleck kids and cyberpunk bike gangs

Oh, so we CAN criticize female characters who have suddenly been given amazing powers or intelligence without working to learn/earn them. Even if they are doing it to virtue signal since it really adds nothing to the story.

If you could post a flow chart of when that is acceptable it would really help.

and if it's worse than all that….im kinda intrigued….kinda like watching the dinner party scene from the office except only the negative feelings it invokes without the positive that only a well written show can deliver….

But something that awful almost needs to be seen to be believed……kinda like Reindeer Games

Literally no clue what point you're trying to make. I've ragged on Rey, Captain Marvel, Ironheart, etc for the exact things you're talking about, and have never held anyone else here to any other standard in that regard.

I agree. All this MCU & Star Wars girl power for the sake of girl power is hurting the product.

I haven't read any of the Echo centric stuff, but she's a great character in the Daredevil comics.

I looked her up and she's confusing. Does she have superpowers or not? Her primary iteration she's just a great hand to hand fighter with photographic reflexes but then under a different nickname she's basically super girl. Which is it?

Yeah I read a Moon Knight run from ~2011 where she's a supporting character and gets killed. I guess they bring her back eventually. But she barely has more comics history than El Muerto. She's got Eternals-level obscurity - probably lower than that even.

The Echo series might be a dud, but I'll hold off on getting too bent out of shape until I at least see a single episode. Seemed to me they just wanted to tell a street-level gritty story using Kingpin and some of his associates.
