Yeah, Star Wars opened in only 40 theaters its opening weekend and they had to force distribution on the national level by tying it to another more anticipated movie.
Pretty remarkable.

An Aussie house guest made me watch this with her 15 years ago. Loved it.

Speaking of Aussie movies, The Babadook was fantastic! This is a horror/psychological show that is really well done. Only saw it released at Alamo Drafthouse.

I'd like to point out that I've already declared The Castle as the greatest movie ever made.

A movie I only knew about from this board:

Locke.

Tom Hardy the only actor on screen, takes place in real time. Absolutely riveting. Brilliantly written. Still on Amazon Prime I think.

Go watch it.

I saw a movie in college one night on one of the movie channels called "Thursday" that I absolutely loved. Its about a retired hit man in Houston that has a day where his past comes back to him. It's pretty crazy. Aaron Eckhart and Thomas Jane early in their careers. I loved it.

My all time favorite western is a bit of an unknown from Sam Peckenpaugh called "Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid". Kris Kristofferson as Billy the Kid and Bob Dylan as one of his crew. Not sure if it's really "unknown" but very few people I know have seen it.

The King of Kong: A Fistfull of Quarters. A documentary that is so hilariously on point, I thought it was a mockumentary. couldn't have been done better by Christopher Guest. And this was real! Love this show.

Watched this earlier because of this thread. Holy F some of those guys are messed up. Great movie though.

Oh, and there's about to be a killscreen if you're interested.

Here is a scattershot of some lesser known films I've enjoyed
"It follows" is a solid horror film from this last year that has not got much attention.

"The Man from Earth" is an excellent dialogue driven movie that is thought provoking, and is movie I've never heard mentioned here or really anywhere.

"Animal Kingdom" is a great Aussie crime drama that might have been mentioned her once or twice.

"Blue Ruin" is a great revenge film that a lot of people love on Reddit, but never seen mentioned here.

"Green Room" is a frickin awesome quasi-horror film filled with neo-nazi skinheads trying to kill the late, great Anton Yelchin.

"Moon" is a great sci-fi flick with Sam Rockwell being amazing, as always.

"Mean Creek" is a great film if you like feeling depressed for a few hours.

"Six Degrees of Separation" is probably Will Smith's best performance of his career, and probably the only one where it felt like he truly took a chance.

"The Man from Nowhere" and "I saw the Devil" are excellent Korean films that are by no means "unheard of", but I have not seen mentioned on this board.

There are a ton more that I can't think of off the top of my head

Anyone else seen Knockaround Guys with Vin Diesel, Seth Green, Barry Pepper, John Malkovich and Dennis Hopper? Lots of big names, but definitely seems under the radar. It was the first R rated movie I ever snuck into and maybe that's why I still love it.

Okay, I've got two- and I've never seen them mentioned anywhere on this forum:

GREAT low-budget comedy featuring Seth Myers and John Cho as crappy film students who scam their way into the Montreal Film Fest.

This is definitely my favorite movie that I've never heard anyone talk about it, save for my best friend who's been in and out of the music biz over the past 30 years. It truly is the Spinal Tap of country music, and it features many stars before their time, with some cameos thrown in for good measure. Lauren Graham and Kathy Griffin fighting over the protagonist (Lauren Graham especially plays the Country Yoko Ono role so damn well), David Koechner as the empty-headed sidekick trying to convince everyone he's someone he's not, Henry Winkler as the fake country producer, Jason Priestly as the current country star, and plenty more infinitely-watchable characters and scenes. Unfortunately it's extremely hard to find, and I've never seen it available digitally. But I promise it's worth a viewing for some good laughs and parody of the 90's country scene
