Three movies that I believe should be classics.

Margin Call - a great movie with a well known cast. It takes the sub-prime crisis and makes it tangible, interesting and suspenseful.

In the Loop - a movie about politics that is as funny as it is disturbingly authentic.

Breaker Morant - a war movie that has perfect moments throughout and touches on many issues that come to bear in the 20th and 21st century.

I remember seeing the previews for Brotherhood of the Wolf when I was in college. My roommates and i were jacked to go see it not realizing it was a foreign film. As soon as we saw subtitles we walked out.....young and stupid...I regret that now because I heard it was good but I've forgotten about it til now. Will watch soon!!

Coherence

Mentioned it on here a few months ago but it's not real well known.

Would frailty qualify? It was a big release type movie but I know very few that have heard of it.

Fraility and Coherence qualify, especially the latter. I should have included it.

Also, I did fail to mention the best horror film of all time, from a massively underappreciated director: Picnic at Hanging Rock.

For those that enjoyed Primer: Timecrimes.

Junebug and Sunshine Cleaning for lighter fare.

Allow me to plug Sunshine again. This is the best sci-fi movie of all time, and I very much mean that. Boyle almost broke himself mentally making it, and was not given enough credit for this truly great product. I'm glad it turned into a terrifying slasher at the end. The true end point of good sci-fi is nihilistic horror, and an accompanying moral point by comparison. Read E. Michael Jones, Monsters from the Id.

Religious themes:

Doubt
There Be Dragons
For the Greater Glory

Andy Garcia, one of my favorites, is very good in his passion project Lost City, and City Island was a decent comedy.

Calvary is excellent for those who appreciate Irish humor, which I do.

Black Sea is very interesting for those who believe this former lake adds some historical weight to the Noah story / myth, as I do (read Anne Catherine Enmerich if you truly want to stay up all night in terror and awe).

The Worlds Fastest Indian

Blowout

The Walker

Miss Meadows

And yes I know some of these have been discussses before here.

Finnish dramedy, The Man Without a Past. Nominated for an Academy Award, but I find few who know of it. Part of a trilogy, it rides on dry wit and characters you care about. One of my family's favorites.

If your answer to this is not We've Never Been Licked you're a bad Aggie.

I once asked for it at Hastings and was told "We don't have movies like that."
