I watched the season a few weeks ago. I thought Kovacs' character was pretty cheesy. The storyline of his sister acting like a scorned girlfriend and then becoming the enemy was kind of forced to me. I stuck through it, and it was entertaining, but it felt not up to par for the quality I've found in Netflix shows like Black Mirror.

The weird thing is I normally have lower standards than others and am just happy if it's decent, but I'm surprised at how highly rated this show is.

THat's because Black Mirror wasn't originally a netflix show. I think most of us were more pleasantly surprised than anything.

Yeah I enjoyed it up to the point the sister became the focus. Her whole storyline just didn't make sense, Oitsode of a more forceful Skylar of B.B. sort of way. The last few episodes were weak because of it, kind of forced myself to finish it. Not sure if I will watch the next season.

Am I the only sci-fi fan on the planet that does not like Black Mirror? Tried a few episodes but couldn't get into it. Then watched what was ranked as the best episode in the series and didn't really care for it.

No, you're not the only one. I couldn't get into the series.

I only saw S1E1 of Black Mirror, but that was enough to tell me that the writers and I have non-overlapping Venn diagrams

Ironically, the first episode is one of the least Black Mirrory episodes of the whole series, and one of the weakest too. You should check out 15 Million Merits, The Entire History of You, White Christmas, and San Junipero. All those are top notch.

lol, that was quite the introduction but not really indicative of any other episodes. In fact when I talk about it with people who haven't seen it I specifically tell them to skip that one as I don't want it to taint their view of the whole series.

I wasn't even sure I'd watch again especially with Joel Kinnaman, but Falcon? Alright I'm back in.

Will be interesting to see if Mackie can pull this off. He has been kinda pigeonholed with his Marvel row lately.

Mackie should get more roles. He was in that Christmad movie with Seth Rogan a while back. The first time I noticed him, Falcon & Hawkeye were in the Hurt Locker.

I have read the books and am interested in seeing this. However, I don't have Netflix. I could get it, but don't feel like getting sucked down that time-waste hole. Anyone heard if this is going to be released on Blue-ray?

Netflix produced it. I don't think they put their stuff on blu-ray. So, I'm gonna say no.

That is what I was thinking, but I saw Stranger Things on sale today, so was hoping there might be plans for Altered Carbon.


Patag is right, I need to just borrow one of the 3 actual Netflix memberships in existence.

I decided to get Netflix over the holiday so I could binge watch Altered Carbon. I was really excited about this as I liked the books. However, after watching the first two episodes, I'm pretty disappointed. I'm going to stick with it a while longer, but so far I'm not impressed. I don't like the casting for Tak, some of the plot points changed don't seem ideal, and to me it sounds like when they mixed the audio the vocals were too low. Its hard to understand a lot of the dialogue.

I finished out Altered Carbon season 1 and have come around on my original thoughts. I'm glad I stuck it out. I really ended up enjoying it. I know I'm jumping in late, but I thought I would leave some of my comments. I'm curious to see how close they stick to the second book for season 2.

What I Liked...

1) Tak
I originally thought it was a poor casting choice, but I came around on Kinnaman. I thought the other Tak casting was pretty good.

2) Ortega
I really liked the casting choice for Ortega. I know everyone was complaining about her acting in the first few episodes, but I thought she was fine. I think she played the character true to the book for the first several episodes. And yes, she is hot and I think my new crush.

3) Poe / Hotel
From what I understand, changing the hotel from Hendrix to Poe was a licensing issue. But I think this worked out for the best. I really enjoyed the Poe character. I wouldn't mind seeing a show dedicated to Poe where he has a new guest each week. He has to be backed up somewhere...

4) Sister / Raeline
This is where things start to stray from the book. I have no idea why they went this direction, but I was actually ok with it.


What I didn't like...

1) Envoys
This was a massive change to the book and I have no idea why they went in this direction. The only thing I can think of is they have a plan with how this will fit in with the book 3 story line. But I think by changing the Envoys, they ruined a core element of the book. They took what was an elite force and turned them into a band of resistance fighters. I don't see how a band of resistance fighters can be trained better than C-TAC due to what would be less available resources, but that is what they tried to imply.

2) Falconer / Virginia
This was another major departure from the book.
I understand the need in some instances to combine characters from a book to a movie, but I didn't see the point with this. Falconer should have been someone mentioned and thats it. She doesn't really have any usefulness until book 3. There was no reason to make her an enjoy and bring her character into season 1. The fact that they made the Envoys the resistance, I see why they combined her character with Virginia, but I still cant think of why they went down this 'Envoy - Resistance' path. As far as Virginia goes, I didn't like her taking the role of Sarah from the book in being the motivation for Tak to survive.I would have much rather seen her just show up in season 3.

I just watched it over December and January for the first time and mostly enjoyed it. I like weird sci-fi though.

I'm excited for Mackie's shot at it.

It's not the best show I've ever seen, but it was pretty damn good I thought. I would probably put it in the top 5 Netflix shows I've watched.

I just finished reading the books (there are three, but there really isn't an overarching plot).

I think this is the one rare case where I prefer a tv show adaptation to the book. The show has some acting issues, but the boobs make up for it.

It looks like a decent trailer with some depth to it was finally released for season 2 of Altered Carbon.



Season 1 went off track from the book and possibly changed the course of the series.
It's hard to tell from this trailer, but from what I recall of the book, I saw very little that seems to indicate this will be following that story.

One good thing is they somehow decided to fit Poe into the story. Not sure how they are going to do that, but I like the idea. Maybe he is Tak's mobile holographic version of his Palm Pilot .

I got excited for a second as I thought they were somehow bringing back Martha Higareda, but soon realized it was someone else.
