1. Did Schwartzman's character indirectly instruct the nurse to kill his father or is she just psycho and did it on her own? After watching the second episode I think it's the latter but not sure if he pretty much told her to when they were in the pharmacy room.

I have the exact question. I thought it was clear he told her to do it, but apparently she does this sort of thing all the time.
Same. After episode 1 I thought it was pretty clear she was acting on Josto's instruction (albeit vague or perhaps done offscreen). After episode 2, I'm more leaning to "nah, she's just a f'ing psychopath."

I skimmed Ep. 1.

I now believe that the son is genuinely worried about his father and is not hinting that he wants his father dead. The lunatic nurse just does what she often does. Her comments to the son are double entendres.

Regarding what Chris Rock says to his wife, he says something to the effect that the white kid will be with them only until "I slit their throats," (meaning the Italians) so he does not have anything to do with the death of the old Italian.

Sorry about the names. They are all too strange for me to remember.

I thought at first. But I think it's clear now, that she's just a completely nuts serial killer who killed someone else. He didnt even remember who she was initially, when they ran into each other later. And I dont think Chris Rock instructed her. The timeline wouldnt add up...especially since it was a freak accident that took him to the hospital, and I dont think he knew the old man was there yet.

I like the story so far. It's weird and quirky...like most the Fargo stories are. I like the power struggle between the factions....with the random chaos thrown in (jail-break sisters, funeral home family, narrating daughter, crazy killer lady).

I wasnt crazy about some of the forced racial stereotypes (esp during the prologue). Seemed a little over the top, and shoehorned in.

At the end, the crazy murderer lady baked a pie with ipecac. So whomever eats it, is going to get sick. But the family will know who did it to them (she told the girl she was going to make her a pie). I'm curious where they're going with that. It makes me wonder if that pie ends up getting eaten by someone else, and plays a role in the plot taking a turn.

I had a hard time taking Chris Rock seriously at first. But he's doing well in the role, and is making me forget it's Chris Rock.

I thought Josto was asking her to do it, but have come around to the opinion that she's just nuts.

The whole thing is fairly meh so far, but that might be due to the high bar of previous seasons. There's potential though.

I initially thought he said something along the lines of 'I don't want him to be in pain long'... or 'i hope he's in a lot of pain'... either way... as soon as he said it, i took it to mean that he wanted her to take care of him.

Her being a nutjob just made it more believable to me that she would just do this for a random guy she did drugs with in the hospital.

And this was just his way of making sure he accidentally took over as boss.

Yeah, they're all self contained story lines. The only thing you'll miss out on are some easter eggs connecting the other seasons together.

But I'd also watch the first 3 (in that order) before 4. Just because by the time you're done you can binge s4.

Schwartzmen didn't ask the nurse to kill his dad, he was just being vulnerable with her (Which he can never be in his real life) when high. He doesn't like violence, as they made clear in the rest of episode 2.

So far so good on this season. Much better than season 3.

I watched season 1 and 2. Missed 3. But season 4 so far does feel "meh".

Episode 1 felt a bit too slow, but episode 2 started to get more into a groove. I'm concerned the cast of characters is a bit too big this season, and that's slowing everything down. People need to start getting whacked to move the story along.

There have been a couple sequences that were Groan-worthy, too. Like don Falla having intense gas, and then getting wounded by a child's pellet gun? Ugh.

I don't think the son meant to tell the nurse to kill his dad. I also don't think she needed any encouragement - she's been killing many of her patients.
Thanks and gig'em

My thoughts two episodes in... season 4 is much better than season 3, which I thought was awful, but so far it isn't as good as season 1, which I thought was incredible.

Season 3 started out badly but there were some redeeming points:

  • Mary Elizabeth Winstead's incredible bottom shot coming out of the bath
  • VM Varga character
  • Return of Mr. Numbers in the prison bus
  • The bowling alley scenes

2 episodes in and I like season 4 so far. I also liked season 3, but I do rank it as the weakest of the first 3 seasons for sure.

My next question - The whole concept of trading the youngest sons to the other side - I have never heard of this. Was this a real thing?

It happened historically to ensure a truce between waring states.

Not sure if I've heard between mafia families.

Interesting connection:

Season 2 features Mike Milligan from the Kansas City Mafia played by Bokeem Woodbine.

There's a decent chance the Mike Milligan is actually Satchel Cannon (Loy Cannon's son living with the Italian mob) and he gets adopted by Rabbi Milligan and changes his name after everything comes unraveled.

Everything I know about the mafia, I watched in the movies.(Well, not really, but my reading never came across anything like this practice.)

Vito Corleone would have never sent Michael to live with Barzini.

It's been 5 years since I watched season 2.

I vaguely remembered Mike Milligan's character, but didn't immediately connect his ties to the KC mob or his last name to Rabbi Milligan.

If you've watched it more recently or are more familiar, I'd appreciate insights into how the seasons tie together.

Doesn't bode well for the Cannon Concern? Almost seems like a spoiler.

Ahhh didn't think of that. Yes I just watched 1-3 for the first time Over the last month.

Mike is the only connection to the other seasons I've noticed so far.

Fair point.

I've added spoiler tags to the connection between seasons.

I wasn't suggesting you should edit, just thinking out loud - no idea where the writers take it. But since you edited I did too.

I've only seen the first two episodes and I'm liking it. And I'll say it for the thousandth time - I am not sure any following season, or any season of any series for the rest of my life, will top how much I enjoyed Fargo season 2. So I'm not comparing it to that.

Not as Fargo-ish as the others yet.

I hope it picks up but so far it is dull.

Question: how "true" are the Fargo stories, or is the embellishment so bad they just say that to capture your attention?
Bunk Moreland
How long do you want to ignore this user?
There's nothing true about the stories. It's a nod to the movie which did the same thing.

Good catch. I knew she looked familiar. First episode I had to google whether or not she was Linda Cardellini.

I had only seen her in I'm Thinking of Ending Things, in which she plays an old fat male janitor.
