To get back on subject. I can easily see DeAndre getting a part in this movie.

Deandre is a good bet. I think Kevin Love is a lock to be in it. Obviously, Kevin Hart will be in it, but I really hope Bill Murray will be back. I'm guessing Drake is in it too... Wonder if Jordan agrees to make an appearance, which could be pretty epic.

And I hope there's some weird cameo where Kanye is hanging out with Marvin the Martian in space.

A Jordan cameo is apparently in the works. Love that Kanye idea as well. As someone else said, I think Draymond will find his way in there too.

Also have to have one of the Monstars be Lance Stephenson that keeps trying to blow in his ear.

But seriously.. Draymond is a lock for this right?

it is not his poitics, it is he is not as well liked as he used to be. Lot of it came from "the decision" and other things.

Steph Curry is more well liked and his politcial views are very open. He is just more likeable and it seems more kids rather have his jersey. My opinion.

Now I am bias as I loved Jordan, but Jordan appeal was so much bigger than Lebron I feel.

Back in the day Jordan was known all over the world. Every poor kid in some po-dunk country knew who he was. It's like Leonel Messi today (everywhere outside the US). I don't think Lebron has the same appeal. Frankly, I doubt Curry does either.

IF they are doing a similar storyline, which 5 players you think they would steal the talents from? Remember they picked unique players last time (Bradley was tall, Mugsy was short, etc)

Steph Curry - insane shooting
Russell Westbrook - best athlete
James Harden - can you imagine the cartoon beard?
Anthony Davis - super unibrow
Kristaps Porzingis - token white player, tallest player in the league
Draymond Green - seems like a perfect fit for the movie

There's no really crazy short players right now. Of the "namable players", Isaiah Thomas is listed at 5'9", Chris Paul is 6'0"

Kevin Durant trying to join the Monstars in a 2-second cameo would be perfect.
anthony Davis for sure. First one I thought of for monstar.
Draymond is another good one.
Kwahi could be one also and Lebron recruiting him to LA.
Prozingis would be good. I doubt Harden and Westbrook would do it.
Something tells me Curry wouldn't get the invite.

Bring Duncan/Shaq in as players back for cameo.

Steph is right behind Lebron in popularity, but I assure you Lebron is still the biggest, especially worldwide. Plus Lebron can actually act. Steph has the personality of a rock, and his delivery in his Brita commercials or whatever he pitches is absolutely painful.

Harden would absolutely do this. Why do you think he wouldn't? He's one of the most brand savvy athletes on the planet. Kawhi? That guy doesn't even want to talk to local reporters.

Steph also has his own production company now too. LeBron is producing this through his new production company, and it's starting to feel like even their two production companies are going to be "competing" as well. For that, and all the reasons above, I seriously doubt Steph is in this.

Kwahi would be perfect for a monstar, he just won't talk and doesn't have to say anything. Just show up, put on basketball gear and play bad.

I see your point on Harden, but you are asking top 5 players in the world to play a small role behind Lebron which proves he is better than them. With their egos, I am not sure they would and I don't blame them.

Question... how many of the athletes in the original were Nike athletes? This whole thing was born out of those original Nike ads with Jordan and "Hare Jordan" (embedded below) and I'm wondering if there was some kind of Nike stipulation/deal in place for the movie? Like in the first live-action Transformers movie, GM had a deal with Paramount to make all the Transformers be GM models. I wonder if there was a similar deal with Nike and Warner Bros.? If so, would they only be able to use Nike athletes this go around?

Actually, just looked it up... off the top of my head, Bird, Larry Johnson, and Patrick Ewing were definitely not Nike athletes, so never mind.

Just saw this when googling the movie:
Lebron James' Space Jam Movie Is A Reboot, Not A Sequel

I think that's actually the right move. There's such a basic plot to the original, they could keep the bones the same but Coogler can improve the whole concept, hopefully.

I would not mind if it took on a more Lego Movie-esque meta tone either. Not take itself too seriously but throw in some smart jokes/commentary for the adults.

This is the headline from the trade that broke the news...

LeBron James Sets 'Black Panther's' Ryan Coogler to Produce 'Space Jam' Sequel (Exclusive)

That link sources The Hollywood Reporter, who broke this latest news as well. So we have the same source calling it both a sequel and not a sequel. Interesting. I'm betting that it's not a remake either, tough. Sounds like it'll be that grey area where the events from the first movie could have happened, but the filmmakers aren't going to build off of them as plot points for this movie. So maybe same universe/timeline and "new" story, but one that maybe borrows a lot from the first one. Who knows...

I think if they just invaded the Warriors this time, that would be hilarious.

They should have Lebron, Steph, Westbrook, Hardin, Chris Paul, and Draymond. Just make it a collection of the most unbearable athletes ever. Kaepernick to cameo.

To test the waters, I think this is an interesting first project for LeBron the actor.

Based on some reporting by ESPN a few months back, it sounded like he wanted to be taken "serious" as an actor and not a basketball player acting a la Shaq.

This project seems like a dangerous first step, first acting with animated characters isn't easy (see the prequels), kids movies are very hit or miss, and he is presumably playing a basketball player.

But Coogler seems like he is on fire from Creed and Black Panther, but he is only producing with what seems like an Indy film guy? Who may not have CGI experience?

This just seems like an ego project for LeBron to prove he is better than Jordon.

Honestly, I hope this is good but I think the deck may be stacked against it.

If he wasn't so toxic, it seems like this would be the perfect vehicle for James Gunn. It seems like the movie is going to need an edge to it.

Lebron has already been in a major movie - Trainwreck - and was quite good in it.

Space Jam is the highest producing basketball movie of all time even with a basic story line.

Given Coogler's rise as a director and Lebron's fame as a basketball player this movie will probably be right up there as one of the top 10 money makers (especially if Jordan does do a cameo).

I really don't think they need to do much to recreate the same magic as the first one. The massive appeal of the movie isn't basketball, but the Looney Tunes. I hope they keep making them the focal point of the movie because that was the fun part for me.

Oh and BTW... I think Lebron's new teammate, JaVale McGee, would make one funny ass Monstar.

I assume that MJs cameo will have him living a hermit existence on a isolated island. Maybe LeBron will need to seek him out to ask him to coach? But then MJ refuses because of that one time he thought about murdering Kevin Durant in his sleep.

When Lebron arrives on the island, does he hand MJ a basketball, but he just throws it over his shoulder?

Since it wasn't mentioned on Shams' tweet, Chris Paul (CP3) of the Houston Rockets is in the movie as well according to ESPN.
