I thought so too but it might have been too much for the kids in the audience

I guess all of Asia just has zero interest in this one. Not looking likely.

Very good, very fun movie. Levi was a great casting choice. My 9 yr old son loved it. Villian was OK, not spectacular.

Definitely nowhere near, "better than most Marvel movies", but better than most, if not all, of the DC movies. Unlike Wonder Woman this one deserves all the hype its getting.

If most = more than half, then yes, it's better than most Marvel movies.

Imo.

Off the top of my head, better than:

Thor 1, 2
Iron Man 2, 3
Hulk
Cap 1
Ant Man 1, 2
Captain Marvel
Black Panther

Arguable:
Ultron
Civil War
Guardians 2
Spider-Man Homecoming
Dr. Teeth

Just got home from seeing it. Its really a great movie, and I had a blast.

Agreed, but I'd add Dr Strange and Age of Ultron to the "definitely better than" list and move the first Ant Man to debatable.

Eh, my version of your list....

Better than:
Thor 1, 2
Iron Man 2, 3
Hulk
Dr. Strange

Ultron

On level with:
Ant Man 1 and 2
Captain Marvel

So personally, I'd put it on level with the mid-tier Marvel movies. But its just my opinion, and really a silly argument because Shazam is a good movie. Fun and the first DC movie worth seeing in the theater.

I think it's better than Captain Marvel, which is my #6 or #7 out of Marvel's movies.

What increases how "good" Marvel movies are, is the interconnectedness and the humor, not actual storylines.

The Ant Man movies are super cheese and nowhere close to as good as this movie. If it wasn't Paul Rudd those movies would suck so bad.

It wouldn't be in my top 5 of the MCU, but definitely top 10. I will say, with this, Wonder Woman and the surprisingly decent Aquaman, DC is righting the ship.

In what world would anyone imagine that the flagships of DC would be Wonderwoman, Aquaman, and ****ing Shazam.

I guess the same world where the flagship of (Current) MCU isn't comprised of Spiderman (until recently, and still isn't the focus) and X-Men. And one of the most popular groups are the Guardians of the Galaxy.

The foster dad was amazing.

They're both pretty forgettable in the grand scheme of things. Did they have any cultural impact at all outside of Ant-Man's potentially pivotal role in Endgame?

Spoilers below:

I'll be a little harder on it than most here. Many of the funny scenes didn't resonate with me because parts of them are in previews so it stole the moments thunder... The two punk high schoolers seemed too stereotypical. The conclusion with the mom I presume everybody could see coming. The cops couldn't find his mom but the kid could? I felt like the villain was beating around the bush when they were fighting and should have tried to kill him while he was stronger instead of focusing on the power transfer.

I did enjoy the scenes when they were flying and were too far apart for the speech and the attempt to see if just the suit was bulletproof. Maybe I'll enjoy it more on a second viewing.

The movie was just plain fun...the theater was cracking up throughout the movie. Still so hard to believe that this is the guy who starred in Chuck

That movie was awesome. Just a blast and hilarious. Cant wait for the next one when you know who shows up.

And I'm pretty amazed at movies these days and comic book movies especially. Not that long ago there were so many concepts that seemed simply un-filmable, and that they just could not translate to the big screen. You can literally make anything a good movie if you do it right. Shazam is the absolute stupidest and cheesiest character ever and that movie was fantastic.

Also he has buffed up/roided up a lot. Had not realized it was him when he was in Mrs. Maisel

Really great time and probably the tightest, best script for a DC film yet: the backstory for the villains, the circular yet learning plot for Billy, the parents and siblings. And a solid final act. Good film, that also has infinite rewatchability.

Thundercrack.

That sounds like a butt thing

A lot of your complaints are pretty common in movies (bad guy taking too long and missing his chance, stereotypical characters, etc).

But with regards to his mom:
they made mention that she changed her name, and moved away, which would explain why they didnt find her. but all that said, they could have had a better separation story...like her simply dropping him off at the police station or something, being so young/unprepared.

My only complaint was how dark the start to the movie was. The 7 deadly sins/monsters, car wreck, the dad being absolutely terrible to his son ( 'you little S' was a bit much)...the office murders...My 11 year old almost bailed. Glad it lighted up quickly

But overall we thought it was hilarious, and look forward to the next one.

We loved it...took my 9 year old (who loves horror movies) and she was on the edge of her seat. She about died when grown up shazam flossed! What a fun concept of a child with grown man superpowers. I like the classic tropes of bullies getting theirs so that doesnt bother me...especially since it was maybe 5 minutes of total screen time.
