I enjoyed the first enough. Right now I would prefer that they make a straight sequel rather than filling in any back story.
It looks like that's what they did. The backstory is just filler since you can't constantly be running from monsters that can catch you in 2s.

hell. ya.

love seeing the scenes of the first attack. and anything with Cilian Murphy is an auto-watch.

Great bump! I forgot I started this thread because it left my watch list. New trailer looked great. Isn't there another sequel thread now though too, because of the year+ delay, or am I just thinking that up?

I really enjoyed it. They did a good job keeping it fresh and giving each character a chance to shine. Cillian murphy always raises the bar for the movies and shows he is in

This will be a great series if they keep making them.

Very tense, just like the 1st one. John K. has a great directing career in front of him.

It was great! Story kept you guessing that's for sure

I attended the Live Q&A and there is already a 3rd movie in the works.. fun!

Go see it Ags! Let's reward him for being the first to get a movie out and start off the season

Looking forward to the movie, but Bob Odenkirk accomplished this feat 3 months ago.

saw it last night. it was the first time my family went to a new movie since last January (my wife and i have seen a couple, and i've seen some by myself when traveling, but we haven't seen a new movie together as a family since Jumanji 2.)

kept the same pacing and themes, but expanded a bit to other survivors. really enjoyed it.

I feel like they were trying to show us that there was animosity between the main family and Cilian Murphy, but i didn't catch what it was

Nobody and Wrath of Man were already mass released.

Other than Raya or Tenet, this is probably the first to stand a chance to make a buck.

Just returned from seeing this. That was a fine movie, with lots of startles, and I really enjoyed the ASL aspect they put forth in this one. I honestly don't recall much from the first movie, so will need to re-watch soon.

Also commented to my teen that I enjoyed the kinda-Mars Attacks solution to killing these critters

Godzilla vs Kong has made almost $100 million in the US despite debuting on HBO Max on the same day. And in late March/early April. That's impressive.

As far as horror/sci-fi movies go this is right up there with the first two Alien movies. The cinematography, the pacing, the originality of the story, the scares, and the mirroring of story lines and shots during the latter part of the film were all incredibly well done and make this one of my favorite films of the last 4-5 years.

Highly recommend this one!

yeah, the relationship with Krasinki's character at the beginning seemed a bit strained, ie talking to one another but not really looking at each other, but it may have been too subtle at a point in the movie where things were starting to pickup. I also was confused by who exactly Murphy's character was...granted I saw this at a theater where you can order food and may have been distracted, LOL

Interestingly I have no idea why but my wife's friend was at a Houston theater for the premiere and Krasinski showed up. Pretty cool.

That was a pretty good.

The part where it's cutting back and forth between the three storylines was a masterclass in tension.

My two minor gripes are that the aliens managed to ride the boat and drift all the way to the island, and the length. Felt kinda short to me and it felt unresolved, like it ended in the middle of a scene.

That said, I'm sure they intend to pick up right there again in the third one, if there is one.

Overall I enjoyed it quite a bit, but would still take the first one over this one.

Man, I missed the movies.

What several of the cast and writers have gone on to do between two shows Greg Daniels co-created, Office and Parks and Rec, is kind of amazing to me. He and his fellow creators assembled an insane amount of talent between those two shows.

I'm really liking Krasinski's choices post Office. Pivoting away from comedy both in front and behind the camera can be hard to do, but he's figured it out pretty well.

Has anyone seen this in 4DX? I have only seen one movie in that format and not sure if it would be a distracting experience or an upgrade for this movie.

Don't know what 4DX s but I just saw it in EVX (Evo's equivalent?), and it was great.

Love that I can take my 10 year old to see a movie like this without useless profanity and explicit content.

Big fan of the Krasinski.

Disagree...(Though I liked A Quiet Place) The main problem I have is with the creatures in "A Quiet Place" vs. "Aliens"
The AQP creatures are gimmicky, too CGI & seemingly exist only to kill. Having a bit of a backstory on the creatures gives them more depth (the Aliens creatures need people for food & a host for their parasitic young)

I'd wondered why A Quiet Place 2 did so little overseas despite being released in China the same weekend as here - it might be because F9 is killing it (relatively) since being released on May 19 internationally ($229 million).

https://www.boxofficemojo.com/release/rl192906753/

F9 will be released here June 25.

AQP2 took in an additional $22 million internationally, albeit in far fewer markets thus far than F9.

It's amazing that when Emily Blunt hit the reverse pedal, the camera broke and perfectly went into a close-up of her face.

2/3 of the way through a planned trilogy and we still don't know why the creatures are here. So far, it looks like they only hunt for fun. What do they actually eat? Do they eat?

I'm still trying to figure out if they fell to earth inside giant meteors (that somehow did no damage upon landing despite looking like they would obliterate cities) or if they came in on spaceships (but appear less intelligent than dogs)

I like the movie, well acted, suspenseful & good pacing... but the aliens are a glaring problem. Even the bugs in Starship Troopers were more thought out.

as far as we know now

I'm sure each movie will give more background and history on why these aliens are here, etc

And if Part 1 was a flop, the story would never be finished so they may not have had a plan

But I'm thrilled to hear Part 3 is coming and the story is getting bigger

Yeah, I enjoyed both movies and didn't need to know why or who sent the aliens. For all we know they could have been sent by a superior being that is simply using them to rid the earth of life.

We're only supposed to know as much as the characters do. Just like in Signs.
