We're only supposed to know as much as the characters do. Just like in Signs.
Agreed, it isn't reasonable for the characters to know the big picture. The problem I have is that Krasinski's "wolves in a daycare center" concept (q.v. https://screencrush.com/where-do-quiet-places-monsters-come-from/) can't explain how these creatures got to Earth. Wolves (or bears, sharks, tigers, eagles, pick your favorite apex predator) will never develop spaceflight. Whatever the explanation turns out to be, I just hope he shares it.

We'll see if we actually get more canon info in the third one, personally this explanation would bother me somewhat. I would have a difficult time suspending my disbelief regarding a creature surviving the explosion of their home planet, atmospheric entry and impact on Earth and then being able to be killed by the methods we have seen thus far.

Right, and without anything for in-flight snacks, too.

What do they eat, anyway? It isn't humans. Maybe they're bio-robots?

Yeah at this point I hope they stay away from getting too much more into the creature origins. I enjoy the movies for what they are and I don't really see an origin that would be satisfying to me.

Saw this last night and LOVED it. Even more than the first one.

As mentioned earlier, the way they paralleled the tension and climaxes all at the same time was so well done. Even coming out of the water so he could breathe and the kids being let out of the furnace to catch their breath.
One question though, they played that "Beyond the Sea" song as a sign for people, why didn't they just broadcast a message saying "get to an island, there's safety here"?

Cuz playing Beyond the Sea and having the deaf girl figure out its hidden meaning was cooler and more theatric

They couldn't be sure the aliens don't understand English.

I would have gone with yellow submarine or la isla Bonita, maybe Kokomo.

Saw this last night and then went home and rewatched the first. As others have said it was fantastic to be back in the theaters and an extremely well done movie. After watching the first one again I was very confused by the perceived weakness to water in the second versus the first where an alien goes underwater while searching a room for Emily Blunt.

Water in basement was like 4 feet deep. They can't swim but that depth doesn't require swimming.

Saw it yesterday and really enjoyed it. Can't stop thinking about the radio station and why they didn't just broadcast the message about the aliens. The need for a "code" didn't seem to exist. Maybe it did but we didn't learn anything new about the aliens concerning their intelligence or ability to communicate with each other. I assume now that we (the audience) know the aliens two major weakness the third movie would have to be humans hunting them to extinction. Did really enjoy this one but if the 3rd is just another story of humans on the run like the Jurassic Park then I'll probably skip.

I like this idea - humans killing them all off one by one

then at the end of the movie as they are killing the last one, a ship/meteor appears and brings a new batch including the queen and some other beasties that sets up part 4

YES PLEASE

Agreed. This part of the movie really bothered me. Instead of some cryptic song, why not just broadcast something like "hey we're on this island, get on a boat and come join us. Also, the alien creatures can't swim, so any body of water will work if you can't make it here"

It would make sense if the islanders were just as worried about attracting attention from lowlife human scavengers, too.

Which they absolutely would be after the islanders saw the mobbing at the pier when trying to load boats. You can't trust people.

You're either worried about outsiders moving in on your good thing or you aren't.

Broadcasting a song so you only get outsiders that can "figure it out" makes little sense.

Really just needed an added scene where they show some kind of destruction/failure that prevented them from having any actual recording equipment. If you can frame is so they can't record, then the story simply goes that they manually broadcast a message during certain hours and then when they are not in the booth they play the record.

But they'd also certainly have sentries and lookout stations around the island.

It was definitely a weak plot point in otherwise solid film.

Maybe they cut one scene too many as they sharpened the final film because it was long and boring and left that plot a little too thin?

Yeah I have to think something was cut because I feel like it was an otherwise intelligent movie (as far as alien invader movies go). Can't imagine Krasinkski not thinking to himself "why would they do this instead of this?"... I can actually picture Jim posing that exact same question to Dwight - "why wouldn't they just tell people what island they are on instead of playing a mysterious record?".

Didn't the people on the island build a huge fire at night?
Seems like that would have attracted some unwanted attention from crazy folk. May not be remembering that correctly

So I love both the first and second films, but one thing bothers me. What is the monsters actual purpose for being? Sounds silly I know, but basically all we've seen them do is hunt with the purpose of killing specifically. Nothing ever seems to be about killing to eat, they hear noise, and they attack, period. Kill one thing, then another, and another, and so on. They aren't like an apex predator here that hunts to eat. Given this film series isn't over that's one thing I'd like some elaboration on. I don't really need anything deep about their origin, but why they exist, period. They don't appear to be pack animals as far as we can tell either, just solitary organisms that kill as much and as often as they can. That would be in line with an organism that's basically a bio-weapon.
Sea Speed

Bio weapon or maybe they like their food to ripen and they go back and scavenge.

Question though, donthey kill deer and such?

Who drove the boat to the island?

Was this a worldwide event? If so, our militaries couldn't take them out?

I know we're starving for decent movies in the theater, but I didn't think it was that different from the first. I enjoyed it but not overwhelming.

And yes too quiet.

They were impervious to bullets iirc. And enough of them showed up that it took the world by surprise. It showed how they got here though, amd if it was all on meteors, it would have to be a day long event with quite a large spread in order to get them everywhere people live. If they can not cross water, it would seem there would be loads of island nations that would be fine unless they were incredibly unlucky enough to have one of the meteors hit them. I mean, the entire continent of Australia could potentially be perfectly fine.

if they rode in on giant meteors, where was the giant tsunami and ensuing darkness that killed the dinosaurs?

Are they impervious to hang grenades, bombs, lasers, etc?
Sea Speed
How long do you want to ignore this user?

They did not appear to be giant, but pretty small meteors or ites, I can't recall which is applicable. I dont know the answer to your other question bit I believe it was briefly discussed in the first one. They also appear to be impervious to fire, or at least not badly harmed by it.

Reading a lot of thoughts on the creature's intelligence and what their motives are. I can empathize with the criticism on how vague the film represents these ideas. I do get around it by acknowledging three ideas, though. One is that we know Orcas are extremely intelligent, but it's difficult to gauge how they compare to us because of how different our environments are. You can apply the same logic to the Death Angels. Two is that the films are PG-13. Didn't stop the Jurassic franchise, but that's my best guess as to why Krasinski doesn't show them eating people. Three is that the movies are a microscope on the lives of one family. The bigger picture just doesn't seem to be of any concern to the creatorsfor better and worse

Then I don't see how they'd sell another sequel or prequel. Personally, I don't want to watch another movie of basically the same thing (walking around quietly, killing with high frequency, etc) and I don't really want to watch the ending of Independence Day again. As far as prequel, they could go Prometheus-like but don't think it would work with this movie. I think they made 2 decent movies and it's done. Not sure they expected the first one to do that well.

Just watched it on Paramount+. I initially quite liked it but with more thought, I'm kind of disappointed. It's essentially the same thing but them making their way to a radio station. No real decisions, not very many obstacles. The finale is kinda the finale of last time.

Random parallel but if The Last of Us 2 did what AQP2 did, I would have been pissed. But TLOU had a sequel that was very different. It was fresh and new. AQP2 just kind of repeated itself.
