The Raimi movies were absolute monsters in their day. I remember 1 in particular being a massive summer event on the level of an Avengers.

I didn't think that I could get excited for another Avengers movie without IM and Cap, but Peter slowly taking charge of the Avengers gets me hopeful.

Not likely. I don't remember the details of the deal with Sony, but they're going to get full rights back.
They have full rights right now as far as I know.

They take it back and no more Marvel tie-in from Disney - no more Fury, Happy, Stark, etc...

They're kind of in too deep to pull out now. And I don't think there is anyway that Fiege would lend the IP he has given to Sony in the second movie if there wasn't a pretty clear plan in place for Spiderman to be a key member of the next Avenger story-arch.

Here's an easy way of solving the identity issue, get one of the skrulls disguised as Peter and the real Peter would be in his Spider-Man suit side-by-side in public.

Batman the animated series did it.

I thought when Peter was asking about all the other superheroes and said Captain Marvel and Fury said something like "don't say that name" that it was an odd response.

But the end credits made more sense!

Wonder if that's because Universal owns the Hulk rights and not Sony.

Banner didn't die. The video was "in Memorium" for those that passed or were believed to have passed (Cap). Plus the murals and honors for IM were shown in the movie I felt more to remind us of Peter's dilemma and his fears of taking on the next "Iton Man" moniker and the burden he felt with that.

I thought the same. I think his words were "don't invoke her name." After the second post-credits, I took it to be a sign of reverence for saving them all. Though I think the video on the first page makes an interesting point of what if Captain Marvel and the Skrulls had a falling out.

Didn't realize there was a spoiler thread, so here are a few thoughts I posted on the other thread but can expand on here.

1. Is this the first MCU movie where Sam Jackson isn't listed at the end of the credits? I was actually rather surprised he was listed second.

2. I think one of the things in the movie that most intrigued me was Flash. They threw in a lot of small scenes that gave insight into him as a person, and I'm wondering what purpose that will serve in the next movie. Particularly the two parts where he's trying to reach out to his mother. Are they building empathy to his character so he and Peter can work together?

3. Somehow I'm still completely amazed when a seemingly insignificant scene or character in a previous MCU movie becomes important. William (the scientist) being yelled at by Obadiah in the first Iron Man movie now comes back to lead Mysterio's team? And downloads all the drone information at the end? Amazing.

4. I loved the nod to Endgame when he had the homemade hammer and shield on the bridge.

Flash Thompson becomes Agent Venom in the comics. Doubt they go that route, but he wasn't personable at all in the first movie.

So the guy that played William, was also a producer on Iron Man I, buy he also has a bigger past. He played Ralphie in A Christmas Story!

Flash has had an interesting history in the comics. As mentioned he becomes Agent Venom, he has also been a Vietnam War vet in the older Golden Age ASM, and had to deal with PTSD and other issues. He and Peter became friends. In Spider-Man Life Story, a comic series which just came out and not cannon, he's killed in Nam. Peter feels guilty as Spider-Man was Flash's inspiration for signing up to join and go.
The casting and direction of the Flash character in these newer Spider-Man movies was interesting to me and one I was worried about at first b/c Flash was always a jock to me. This rendition of the character was a Debate Club member. He'd have been considered a "nerd" by the Golden Age Flash. But I think it works and the character was developed more in Far From Home and probably reflects a more modern high school situation than the standard "dumb jock/bully" stereotype from the early 60's.

Also, for those of you who'd like to see a Spider-Man series that actually ages Peter and the cast through the decades, read Spider-Man Life Story. Each issue is a decade. It's been pretty good. A little darker but good.

I think the spiderman movies have the best supporting cast of all the marvel movies. Definitely do a lot to flesh then out and make them memorable. I loved Flash in this one and I am interested in where they're going with the character in the future.

Yeah, the best friend romance was nails for that annoying HS couple. And the awkward teenage romance between Peter and MJ was great.

I loved Zendaya's two different MJs. The real self with Peter and then the sardonic youth that squints and talks down to people.

I thought the Mysterio sequences were perfect. Reminded me of the animated series, and of the Scarecrow sequences in the Arkham games. Really nailed it.

The Simmons reveal was a real highlight for me. So awesome.

That series went really dark in the 2nd and 3rd issues. I ended up dropping it because I get enough dark and depressing from my Batman and Detective Comics pulls. I do enjoy Spencer's Amazing Spider-Man, which is saying something because I really don't like Spider-Man stories in general. This is the first time I've liked reading it.

Ok...

Cap goes back in time presumably the day after the battle. In the current timeline, he never returns. The Avengers know he went back in time and lived his life, but that's a difficult thing to explain to the rest of the world and would even raise some flags that someone with modern knowledge of history went back and lived in the past.

So the obvious conclusion is that the story released to the world was that he died in the battle like Tony, sacrificing himself to save us all. He basically did die that day as the current timeline knew it. What better way for Cap to go out then as the ultimate hero with Tony?

Don't get me wrong, it's a pretty huge leap, but I can't believe how great a job they did making Mysterio's character work and updating him with technology and the rules established in the MCU.

Mysterio should NOT work in a movie. But somehow they made it make sense. I LOVED the scenes where Peter was completely immersed in his illusions. That's straight out of the comics, and again should never have been something that could be pulled off in a movie, but they did it.
Totally agreed on this. We went last night, and I was waiting assuming they'd flip Mysterio somehow and really didn't know how it would work...and that was brilliant. All the callbacks to earlier films were a stroke of genius.

I'm liking MJ more and more as they develop her character and her little cutting remarks are hilarious. Also really glad to see Happy develop a bit more as a character and in his relationship with Peter, that felt genuine and got funnier with May/Happy "relationship".

Overall seriously loved this movie, they've done a great job balancing the teenage life aspect of Spidey with the superhero one and brought something really fresh to the MCU in the process.

This is what I love so much about Marvel ability to make a good film. Sony is holding back the A-list enemies, and Marvel is able to still kick ass and put to shame everything Sony did with the big guns.

So, does this take place 1 year after endgame? in the tribute at the beginning, they said that they made them start the school year over after the blip.
