And Homelander asks how Deep found the cockpit of the plane that Homeland downed. He admitted a fish told him.

So was the lobster scene (though I saw that ending coming).

Finished last night and as a whole the show was really good, always interesting when they make a show with almost entirely unlikeable characters work. It's definitely an anti-Marvel take that works well after the build up to Endgame.

And a bit of insider info from a friend, they were already well into working on S2 before they announced it had been greenlit. Interesting that they were that confident.

You see this as anti-Marvel?

Other than homelander playing for the home team (America). He is clearly Superman.

Homelander = Superman
Queen Maeve = Wonder Woman
Deep = Aquaman
A-Train = Flash
(And)
Jack from Jupiter = Martian Manhunter

That's a large portion of the justice league.

Sorry I was talking about Aquaman not The Deep

Right, the characters themselves are pretty obviously DC-inspired. But the theme of a massive corporation controlling movies/theme parks/etc. is a very Disney/Marvel-esque comparison.

Yeah just on posters, the beginning speech, and one time they mentioned he burned some people so badly the teeth melted.

If you are looking for something similar, Future Man on Hulu is by the same writers. It's about a nerd who beats a video game that was sent from the future in order to determine who the ultimate warrior on earth is.

I would say that The Boys is definitely better, but it's the same kind of humor.

I definitely got the Snake Eyes vibe from him. I kept waiting for him to be revealed as non African.

Umm...ok?

I don't know how a megacorp running theme parks and managing an entertainment empire of superheroes doesn't make you think of Disney/Marvel, but to each their own.

Warner Bros owns the DC characters the boys clearly resemble.

You are projecting onto Disney simply because they are more success IRL. That and Disney has been seen as the evil mouse in recent years.

Never mind that the comic came out in 2006, when marvel was pretty much a joke forced to sell movie rights for close to nothing and with blade being the only thing of note being released in the preceding 10 years.

I feel like you're trying to start an argument I really don't care about.

The comic probably didn't have it in mind as it was written a while back, but present day it's a reflection of Disney/Marvel more than anything else and that's the vibe I got from the show.

I do wonder how season 2 will handle that reveal. It will be an interesting arc.

I actually flagged that original post, because I also did not remember any reference in the show. Except by relating that post to comic book spoilers.

Non-spoiler info, the actor playing the character is black.

Speaking of Black Noir... I was kind of unsure of his character, whether he was just filler or they were leading up to something bigger with him. Guess it's clear he'll have a bigger role though based on the last few posts.

For some reason, I absolutely cracked up at the scene where Homelander called a meeting and ripped and threatened everyone (made even better because they are all terrified of him), and just casually says: "Not you Black Noir... you're doing great!"

If you watch it online, anytime the character comes on screen, you can see who the actor is. Black Noir is played by a black guy.

Anyone else find it interesting that Homelander's son is being raised by a woman, after Vogelbaum admitted 1)he failed by not giving Homelander two parents and 2) Homelander was his biggest failure?

believe he said being raised without a mother made them overly aggressive and violent.

This was a really fun show. A little uncomfortable with the Christian conference but sadly there are people like that. Urban was phenomenal and hughie was really great. Did a double take when I saw it was quaid's son. Starlight was a very sweet role in a really ****ed up world.

Home lander actor was insane. He had this genuine appeal to humanity in his speeches and the moment the camera was off his eyes went dead. A train was a cocky son of a b and that first effect of him blowing up Robin was stunning. Really good effects all around

I gave up on the show. The indoctrination is too strong, the contempt to consistent. I went back to watch some Rifleman instead.

You think there is contempt in The Rifleman? And what indoctrination is there, aside from a glorification of fatherhood?

The "we hear you, and soon the how world will hear you" crap in The Boys, plus the contempt with which they deal with church people, is over the top. It's just pure on, straight up, propaganda.
fig96

"We hear you" seemed to be quite intentional propaganda, the quote he paraphrased is rather well known and he repurposed it for his own personal motives.

The church stuff was very over the top, but unfortunately a lot that was not horribly inaccurate if you've spent any time below the surface of the Christian music industry.

I think if anything the show reflected a lot of the current problems with western Christianity being overpoliticized.

Almost matches the contempt 'church people' have for homosexuals
