Not as good as his other stuff, but Chappelle at an 8 is nearly every other comedian at a 14. The only joke that fell really flat with me was the one about getting black people to go buy guns en masse to get gun laws changed. I've seen the joke discussed in other places by large groups of people, and the reaction from Second Amendment folks is universally, "Hell yes! Go get some guns, people!" This is one of the few times that I've seen Chappelle not nail his observations of people. He seems to believe there's a racism among gun folks that isn't there.

I think you're overthinking it.
It's definitely a mismatch of expectations. I'm used to Chappelle being spot on with his observations, up to and especially the ones that run counter to what the mob is telling him to think. A large part of Dave's schtick is telling the mob to **** off. Case in point, I find his takes on #metoo hilarious and poignant at the same time. Getting black people to buy guns just didn't match what I've come to expect out of him.

I was lost why he said he was poor as a kid. From my understanding, his parents did pretty well.

Huh? How is not? Even on Chappelle's Show, one of his (best) punchlines was from "I Know Black People" when he implied that black people voting wouldn't make a difference.

Either way, I agree. You're overthinking this.

He is crippled by the paradigm that America operates to shtt on blacks. This isnt unique to Dave. Conservative blacks comment that blacks dont realize they won the Civil Rights "War", they got everything they wanted, but the chains of eternal victimhood are self-imposed. It's a level of cognitive dissonance when high achievers like Chappelle and Lebron, who live better than 99% of whites, think the system is stacked against them.

Lebron has a HS degree but abandoned his education aims long before that. But Chappelle has no similar excuse. His profession is built on thinking, but that doesnt mean he has enough introspection or objectivity.
I'm thinking Dave is probably more enlightened than you think he is and more than you estimate yourself to be.

I guess stand up comedy is not for everyone.

If you're watching to figure out which social commentaries you find to be spot-on and which commentaries you find to be misguided, you would probably be happier watching something else.

And yes, the epilogue was worth watching, for any of you who like Dave and missed it, go back and look for it.

Regardless of if Dave believes in a literal sense on the sentiment behind the gun joke, it only matters if it resonates with a large portion of the audience. A lot of people probably do believe that if lots of blacks took up legal gun ownership, support for gun ownership would decline among whites. I don't believe that, but if it resonates with enough of the audience, the joke works.

I think he means that if black people go legally buy guns, then the white people who now talk about gun control would actually be scared into action. It's a simple joke on how scared of black people some white people are.

If there was only a way you could reach them and set them straight on their life experiences, which they have misinterpreted. Oh wait - you can do it on Twitter! The perfect place for people to inform others of how their lives should be lived.

Except he isnt.

Did you watch his special, where his father explains to him the difference between "poor" and "broke"? His father had wisdom. He knew that being a victim was a state of mind.

I would gladly like you to explain to us unenlightened dolts how a man who is objectively more successful, both financially and socially, than 99% of white Americans is SIMULTANEOUSLY systematically oppressed...by whites.

The oppression is entirely between the ears. Go read some of Frederick Douglas's writings. He has plenty to say about the slave mindset and mental libertas. Granted Douglass had a Christian worldview, Chappell does not.

With his previous special paralleling his experience with comedy central to the prostitutes under the pimp, Dave seems to approach knowledge like there is a secret underlying truth that only he and few others are smart enough to possess. Objective assessment is never high on the priority list of someone who thinks he is right. Same goes for people who think they are perpetual victims.

Funny how trannies keep watching his comedy. You would think they would be able to avoid watching his comedy specials. But for some reason they cant stop. It's almost like they are getting attention they so desperately crave and cant look away.

Outrage? I'm a fan of Dave.

Discussing the premise for his joke doesnt invalidate the comedy.

Ffs, you can appreciate a comedian without believing they are Socrates-reincarnate.

I haven't watched it yet but based on the hilarious crying and attacks from the media, I have a feeling it must be pretty incredible. The more the PC crowd cries, the better the comedy is. That's just science.

I'm not sure if you guys realize, but 99% of the time when a comedian says... "my wife," "my dad," "my" whatever, etc, it's fake to get the audience to relate to the story.

HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAALALSMLLLMAAOOOO. Are you serious? It was literally just a narrative joke structure device to set up a punchline. Chappelle himself spends literally an hour straight talking, but you take what he says with a boulder of salt, but his anecdotal dad is...wise...because his thought process aligns with a belief you have?

LMAO. Okay.

This is perfect, an (award winning) plus size blogger (apparently blogging has weight categories) calls out Dave for this set and says he should be cancelled.

A black girl tweets at said plus size blogger for being a schill for media.

Plus size blogger then tweets at Red Cross that the previous black girl volunteers at and asks is this the type of person you want volunteering and representing your "organisation".

These people are so stupid, she is a perfect example of the cancel culture Dave is calling out. This is insane!

I was surprised that he didn't believe the MJ accusers after watching the documentary. Those jokes fell flat for me. I enjoyed the rest of the set, but it seemed like he did a lot of those jokes in his last 2 specials.

This. I love how he said something about being not pro life or pro choice, whichever, and somebody cheered. And he's just like... Stop. He knew it didn't matter, he's setting up a joke.

Interestingly though, and maybe this is how I read the situation, the one time he actually wanted some cheering is when he mentioned working on the Chappelle show. He pauses for just a beat to wait for the applause to come in. Either he knew it would come and waited it out or else he wanted it there, I'm not sure. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the latter, based on his latest work it sounds like everything that happened still stings a little.
