I believe after season 2 I said I'd be done watching because the show is just absolutely ridiculous and purely made to feed a binge audience only...sacrificing quality writing, acting and plot development for action, f'bombs, and caricatures.

Well I said all of that in a pre COVID world. Now that we're here, I ended up binging season 3 already. My one rule was "care less about quality and enjoy the ride...cuz corona"

And to that extent I did. I felt like it returned to some of the grisliness that was the strength of early season 1. It totally stalled out in the middle on a bunch of things they never re-visited, which is normal for the show.

The brother was such a hacky move on a normal show. To introduce him and then use him every which way to connect 14 different plot points was obvious and cheap. But again... cuz corona.

Linney & Bateman were fantastic. Janet McTeer as Helen Pierce has been the best character in the show's overall history.....I liked Miya. Ruth is what she is. Wyatt's story was dumb. The kids were ok in some scenes and atrocious in others.

Normal world; wouldn't have watched.

Corona world: 7/10

Completed all 10

* thought the acting of the main characters were great

*agree on the brother, thought he played too big a part and drugged out too long, but liked his acting

*Thought the lawyer would have some layer of protection at her house

*liked the Darlene character better than I thought as long as she has clothes on

*overall A-
I wanna see our defense pissed off, not confused, maybe a little murder in their hearts Reload12, 11/4/11

Entertaining season for sure.

But nothing really got accomplished. It was one big **** show after another. The brother scenes were tired long before he was killed. It was dragged out way too long IMO. I didn't enjoy the fact that every episode was a disaster plot

I agree with that, nothing really moved forward plot-wise. Felt like a setup for the showdown with Darlene next year.

Looks like I'm in the minority here, but I thought the guy who played Ben was amazing. The opening scene of episode 2 (in the school) was so well done, I think I watched it 5 or 6 times.

This season was fantastic. Bateman is crushing it.

Also, this is an absolutely insane comment. Do you need us to list all the things that moved forward?

I have said since the first season that Jonah has traits of a sociopath. He shot a rifle at 13, pulled it on a fed and a cartel operative, and shot a deer as his first kill. He lost two best friends in Buddy and now Ben. Helen told him the truth about Ben's fate as he held her at gun point. He has officially gone off the rails.

I believe that Jonah will become what Wendy feared, becoming unstable like Ben. Fed up with her lies, he may come after Wendy, and since she is now directly working with Navarro, Jonah would be considered a threat to the operation.

Charlotte has knowledge of her parents cartel ties too, so she might be a target.

Take this with a grain of salt, but if someone was a threat to the operation, if given the order, Wendy will not hesitate to set you up. She set up both Cade and her mentally ill brother, so what make us think that she wont set up her son?

Tom Pelphrey is a two-time Emmy winner. His performance as Ben was the best of the entire series so far. He deserves to get his third Emmy for it.

Not saying the acting was bad - it was good - so good that he made the character incredibly hateable

oh his acting was just fine. His character was used as a tool to tie a bunch of bat **** crazy nonsense all together to keep the season somewhat coherent.

And the writing for his character was god awful.

Finished the season last night.

Thoughts:

Really enjoyed the season as a whole, one of my favorite shows on right now. I find it interesting the way the show uses the kids throughout the story. While most shows don't incorporate the kids, this show has them interwoven in the plot. I could see a world where Navarro's kids come in to play in the next season or two, the seeds have been planted.

The only part I rolled my eyes at was the relationship between Wyatt and Darlene. That relationship makes zero sense. She's about 50 years older than him. Seemed too convenient for the story to circle back around like that. With that being said, where does it go from here? It seems clear to me that Darlene and Wyatt get married. Darlene dies in Season 4, leaving the farm to Wyatt. Ruth and Wyatt vs. the Byrdes/Cartel at the end of Season 4.

Also, I really thought Jonah was about to shoot himself in that last episode.

That makes sense. I agree about the Darlene and Wyatt relationship.

Ruth vs the byrdes could be very interesting.

Thinking about S4, someone big has to be killed. No one they all can survive.

Someone from the byrds or Ruth?

Actor player Brother did a great job.

Mental illness disturbs me at times and he played the part well.

Great series

Only thing I would change is Jason's characterneeds to lose it every once in a while. He's to calm most of the time with all the pressure situations that occur during this show.

I think the Byrds needed a couple of more wins this season to sell Navarro picking them over Helen, plus I wanted to see a little more business progress were they get som big money laundered to prove their worth.

It was strange how they got Ruth to team up with Darlene, could have skipped the Wyatt / Darlene relationship and just made it platonic, or Mother / Son type connection. I get they want Ruth against the Byrds for season 4, just didn't have to make it so weird. Could have just had Ruth there when Ben gets whacked to send her running to the other team.

Should have let Jonah get laid to avoid his psychopathic future.

Liked it, didn't love it. My issue is the constant problem then solution then solution creates next problem, repeat. I feel like maybe if they slowed it down a bit, let some plot lines play out a bit more and not try to cram so much in, it would be more effective. By episode 7-8, I just wanted to get to the end already. That said, it was still a good season and not a waste of time.

Great point on Jason's character. If I am honest, I play the calm role in my professional and personal life 90% of the time. But that other 10% I go megaton. We need some megaton out of Bateman at some point.

Also, I can't possibly hate Wendy more and I am only through episode three. She is completely off the rails.

Finished the first 3 and so far not really enjoying it. I just hate Wendy Bird so much that it makes the entire show unenjoyable. She needs to be offed immediately.

I'm 100% on Marty's side. He barely was getting things up and running and her expansion idea screwed them.

Her smarmy damn smile makes me irate at times. Such an unlikable character.

There's no reason to even guess with a show like this. They don't have a strategy. They just make **** up as they go and lean on new characters like the brother to sorta make it work. That's why it will always have a ceiling on its quality.

was played by Marc Menchaca, an Aggie grad

My biggest problem with this show is how quickly everyone figures things out.

Someone does something deceiving or against the group?

Someone immediately figures it out with the slightest clue. Especially Wendy.

That said, I like the show a lot. Agree with some others than not enough got "accomplished" in this season but that just tells me they know it's going 4 and maybe 5 seasons.

I too thought Ben was alive. Still think he might be honestly.

Let's face it, Navarro would've killed that entire family long ago.
