He's in costume doing an accent in both Bohemian Rhapsody and Inglorious *******s for a combined 10 minutes. Proving my point.
How many people that aren't SNL nerds recognized him?
More people left the movie saying "that was Mine Myers?" Instead of "that was Mine Myers!"
Why is this my hill to die on all the sudden?

You probably said it in their heydey. It's about their impact at the time, not now.

I didn't include Rock because he was barely on SNL, he made his star outside of SNL. Same as RDJ or JLD.

Bruno Mars was also really good. They need to have him on more.

Chris Rock was on for 1 less season than Eddie Murphy and 1 more than Chevy Chase as a full cast member....

Not really sure I agree with you on this.

Rock would appear in a Buzzfeed article about actors that "You'll never believe who was a SNL cast member" along with Joan Cusack.
Not in an article about SNL cast members who used their late night stardom to graduate into bigger things.

JT and Mulaney top the list for me. It seemed like they were in every other sketch, and JT topped that with performing too. While most hosts try to participate, those two are giving it their all.

I voted for a lot of the glue guys like Maya Rudolph and Kevin Nealon - they may not have had star characters but they were crucial in a lot of these bits.

Chris Parnell, Darrell Hammond, guys like that.

Same. Darrell Hammond was especially amazing. His Clinton and Trump were the best.

Christopher Walken is my favorite all-time host, for Cowbell and Colonel Angus and the Continental.

Will cap the votes around noon today, seed the results, and roll out the knockout round. Clearly the seeding will be slightly off in places because of who was in what group with who, but the cream inevitably rises the top in these.

Also, a big shoutout to Melanie Hustell's mom for joining TexAgs because I'm not sure who else would have voted for her against Chevy Chase and Darrell Hammond.

Chris's face in the Colombia decaf coffee scene always gets me. He's perfect in that!

His Matt Foley and Chippendales dancer skits always seem to get the most play in tributes to him, but that one is definitely my favorite. The icing on the cake is that it supposedly is set in Shreveport, LA.

Watching that skit is just such a throwback to the early days of SNL. It felt like a skit from 1978.

Also, hadn't ever noticed that he's really hitting Farley on the head with a pan. You can see his hair bounce when he hits him.

Probably foam or rubber. The sound effect is doing a lot of work there.

Can't we all just agree that Farley is easily #1 and Hartman is 2?

Maybe the writing was just better/more creative back then. I've tried watching some recent episodes and the jokes just seem lazy. Everything is sex or political. Wiig and McKinnon seem to be the only bright spots in recent years.

Not dramatic roles, crossover into super star movie roles. I guess my point is that no one has ever said " Let's go see the new Mike Myers movie." It's always " Let's go see the the new Shrek, or Austin Powers, or Wayne's World movie" He's never just played the same role or himself in huge movies like the other guys on my list have. Will Ferrell is always just Will Ferrell to different degrees in huge movies. Myers is probably the best of making the most out of his characters, but they are characters, not him.
But it's my stupid internet list that makes sense to me.

Isn't that the point of a person who is on SNL. They create characters for skits, it's not standup

I think there is some real talent on the current cast. Ego Nwodim and Alex Moffat in this sketch from last season are fantastic. Chris Redd is also good in pretaped sketches as well as Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping

My whole point is that some cast members are great at disappearing into a different role each skit. Some of those cast members have turned that ability into crossover success in crazy character movies like Mike Myers. Some never really cross over and they stay as SNL stars like Kenan Thompson.

The super star cast members are essentially a version of themselves in almost all skits (usually the irrelevant wise-ass, the bumbling oaf, or the idiot man child) and they turn that SNL fame into doing the same thing in hugely successful movies and make themselves the funniest person on the planet for a short time.

If you are assembling a dream cast you can only have one super star on your cast. You can have multiple role-players that play characters.

Point taken. I love SNL, I've watched it my entire life, I still do. I've read Live From New York: An Uncensored History Of Saturday Night Live (I highly recommend) and tons of other things. I have a a lot of SNL opinions and thoughts that no one else will listen to. All I get is eye rolls from my wife.

I'll tone it down.

I actually don't care. I just thought the gif was appropriate and I love that skit.

I'll add Candice Bergen, John Hamm, Richard Pryor, John Goodman, Christopher Walken, and Emma Stone. I also love Chapelle's recent hosting gigs, he gives SNL an edge they haven't had recently.

Group L might be the strongest.

Kate McKinnon is hilarious and a good impressionist.
Jan Hooks is SNL royalty and a staple for like a decade.
Adam Sandler is a mega star now, but also had great bits (Herlihy Boy, Canteen Boy, etc) and the iconic songs (Hanukkah Son, Lunch Lady Land).
Keenan Thompson is also SNL royalty and has been on the show for about 20 years now (and is in nearly every damn skit, too).

First-round voting is closed. Will roll out the brackets and the matchups later this afternoon. The seeds are determined solely by YOUR votes in the group round. They are not my opinion of whom is better than whom.
