Man, first time I can remember that I've not seen at least one BP candidate. I've only even heard of two of the BP candidates period and only because of this board.

Literally, the only film from any category I've seen is Tenet and it wasn't great.

What a year.

This belongs on page one no matter how apathetic everyone is.

Damn, I'm not to live yet, probably 30mins behind, but just watched the acceptance speech by the Danish director for best international film. What a heart wrenching speech.

Anyone catch that film? (Another Round)

Haven't seen it yet, but really want to. Such a poignant, well-spoken acceptance speech.

I'm kinda seriously digging the setup of the Oscars this year.

I think the room theyre in is beautiful, and love that they aren't playing anyone off, and letting them speak. Sure, they can get long winded and there a ton of 16chan-triggering content, but man, after this past year, let people speak.

Agreed. The 24-frames-per-second aesthetic kind of bugs me - I'd rather it *look* live - but overall the presentation is pretty awesome and unique. There's a nice intimacy too it, and yeah, letting the speeches run is such a great choice, especially after the past year. No need to rush anyone, and the ceremony is better for it. Also really loving the natural afternoon light coming through those massive windows.

Hadn't noticed the 24fps. Maybe it'd work better if they use those depth of field lenses all sports use now before commercials.

Honestly...such a blah and empty year, it almost would be better to cancel and combine with next year.

Wasn't even really aware of 90% of these movies and I used to go to 50+ movies a year in theater.

2020 was of course strange but I still didn't see any of these even on streaming. So I'm not watching.

Last in theater movie for me was 1917 last February and I saw 28 movies from 2019 year.

I saw these movies in 2020:
Palm Springs
Hamilton
Newsies
Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga
Midnight Sky
Lego Star Wars Christmas Special
Wonder Woman 1984 - terrible

I'm just going to pretend 2020 didn't exist.

To me, there are four reasons for the constant decline in viewership of Award shows.
1. The Oscars, Grammy's, Golden Globes, and other award shows aren't as relevant as they were in decades past.
2. Fans do not want to spend 3+ hours when they can get instant results online and see clips on YouTube within minutes of them airing.
3. Hollywood and the entertainment industry have become even more woke.
4. There is usually competition from new episodes of TV shows that air on Sunday nights. That includes Fox Animation Domination Shows: The Simpsons, The Great North, Bob's Burger, and Family Guy, CBS' Equalizer, and CW's Batwoman.

I usually watch Fox Animation Domination Shows before tuning into an awards show for the last hour or so, but there are no new episodes today.

I like the longer speeches.

I don't like the nominees introduces by book report. Show us a film clip.

Yeah, definitely missing the clips. Those are often some of the best parts.

Agreed. Would much rather see clips from the films to see if the acting, design, costumes, etc were actually good. Don't really care what some guy I've never heard of's favorite movie was when he was 12.

This is the least I've ever cared about an Oscars.

Much more interested in this years Emmys tbh.

Absolutely! Especially for the things we almost assuredly haven't seen like the shorts, and those specifically about visuals (makeup, set decoration, cinematography, etc). It also makes it feel like a lazy choice, too.

Reading all the notes about the film with maybe the most notoriously famous and confusing amount of edits before presenting the award for best editor is a nice touch.

Weird not having had the musical performances. I'm not usually a fan of them, but think they really would have fit this years production - could have cut to an outdoor set, too.

Very surprised by that, never thought much of the guy, but have a lot of respect for him now. Called on everyone to be better instead of the standard Hollywood blame whitey speech.

They performed them all "live" during the pre-show. They cut to them between red carpet interviews. Not the same as having them during the show, obviously, but they at least gave the *some* air time.
