One thing I did appreciate....

I did like that they didn't follow through with the cliche "father sacrificing himself for his son" trope. Now, the way that Pratt saved him was a bit.... dumb.... and then the alien chewing it's arm off was really dumb... but I did appreciate that they didn't follow every cliche out there.

It amazes me how critical people can be for what is just a simple action flick. I think it speaks more to the lack of content coming out of Hollywood more than anything else.

Come on, the part where his wife figures out what no one on Earth had ever considered and then pigeon holing the reason behind it was just mind numbing. Their plan to save the day was sillier. Amazingly so. It was a silly action movie but wow, they had a major rewrite at the end.

I think it is better than MK but that is a pretty low bar

JK Simmons was jacked in the role! Using some those good ole Mexican supplements I guess.

It was fine. Go in with low expectations and you won't be disappointed. Sure it's lacking in plenty of areas, but it's fine for what it is. On The Rewatchables they've talked about movies that got greenlit based on the title before they had a story, it certainly feels like one of those films. If they wanted to make a movie about fighting aliens in the future with something to say about the futility of war they could have optioned The Forever War. I'd gladly fire it up again before watching WW84 or The Snyder Cut a second time.
Now that is a pretty low bar.

Well, I am on a calorie deficit 6 days a week and today is my one beer and extra carbs, so maybe that swayed my decision ;-)

Come on though, it was entertaining. Sure had it flaws, but Chris Pratt can make just about any movie an enjoyable flick. No name actor as lead, yea probably wouldn't have been as good based on story alone.

At least they didn't give the aliens a computer virus...

The movie's plot hinges around global warming. Hard pass.

No it doesn't.

Well it does, but not anthropogenic global warming. They could be alluding to good old fashion GW due to the sun.

Oh, man. Having to choose between supporting Chris Pratt or condemning global warming. What a virtue signaling conundrum!

Fun flick. Always enjoy Pratt. Plot is a disaster. So 30 years in the future they got all the same cars, military equipment, etc yet figured out time travel and instead of sending back all info possible to allow the world to prevent things they just say send us hastily trained civilians? And the final solution was just gooberish too. Yet somehow still enjoyed it. And easily better than any garbage DC puts out there.

If you've ever wondered what would happen if the SYFY channel got $200MM to spend on a movie, this is it.

Not good.

My biggest complaint with a lot of movies that this movie did, as well:

"You have 6 minutes to get out!"

"OMG! Only 6 minutes! That's barely enough time to search and entire building, get in a gun fight with some aliens, and then get out of the area."

Hey, 30 years ago from now, it's 1991. Did things look that much different then? Especially after their planet is ravaged by the aliens?

Did the ending have a Reign of Fire feel to it?

In the previous life, was he unhappy with his wife because she was doing Roller Derby?

I had fun the same way I had fun watching Battleship or even the hallowed Independence Day. (Which, incidentally will be running continuously in the Southlake household today)

Yep, "why hasn't the tech advanced?" is a weak criticism.

There are some things you can knock, but overall it's a fun movie.

Good action flick, it did seem oddly paced in that the movie had a second, almost anticlimactic act.

I love Yvonne Strahovski, would have liked her role to be bigger, but she did what she could with what she had. I liked the turnabout where she effectively ended up saving her dad, instead of him saving her

Good mind numbing action flick where they shoot up the bad guys. Go into it with some popcorn and you won't be disappointed.

That's because the second act was an obvious rewrite. I wonder what the original ending was like.

Entertaining watch while my kid napped. Hadn't seen Sam Richardson in anything since VEEP! Loved the kinda "Dead Space" vibe of the aliens.

Final sequence was pretty rowdy, but desperately missing the "Welcome to Earth" one liner.

Some of you people are so negative. It wasn't meant to be a climate change movie. You guys who talk like that must be absolutely unbearable in person. What were they supposed to do? Say they were already in the hollow earth like Godzilla and King Kong? Jeez

It was ok - I watched it a second time. The ending was a bit to "ex machina" for my taste but what disaster movie isn't? The kid with the volcano obsession was a bit much and entirely too convenient.

I think they would still die in their reality if they did that. I am basing that off of Pratt stating how he was going to come back to help his future daughter.

Put me in the camp of really liking it. Semi-original albeit predictable and a good summer movie to watch with the family.
