How long do you want to ignore this user?
I saw it in theatres and was bored. It is my least favorite Marvel move.

I just started this and the fact that they felt like they needed an opening text crawl, has me thinking this is going to be terrible

I need digest this. It wasn't terrible, but it wasn't disconnected. It has implications, but to what extent is the question imo.

Watched it last night for the first time…. My initial reaction was that was one long ass slow paced movie… definitely bottom of the MCU list

Movie was long. I liked it, but definitely bottom 10% of Marvel movies.

I thought it was okay. Too much packed into a long movie. Maybe I don't understand the stakes, but it seemed like killing a celestial was met with pretty meh consequences. I feel like they should've spent a little more time on that

I think Marvel is/was hoping/planning to visit the consequences in a sequel

Just finished and I dug it. Some of the better cinematography in the MCU. Stakes and scope were big in a way that worked given all the history we've been through so far within the MCU. I went in with low expectations from the poor reception, but more so I was worried about/interested to see how they would make a movie of ancient immortal beings fit in to the canon but I think it worked pretty well.

I liked the characters - I think making it Gemma Chan's movie when she's acting alongside Angelina Jolie, Salma Hayek, and Richard Madden was a bold but successful risk. She held her own acting wise, but it kept the movie more fresh, imo.

Random thought I kept going to was that this was The Justice League movie we should have gotten.

-

Edit for another random thought that just popped in my head: how come Phastos was the one that could make stuff, and Makkari was the fast one, and not the other way around?

It was pretty and I thought it was cast well and well acted.

I think the comment about justice league is spot on but for the opposite reason. I felt like this was "what if "Zack Snyder and DC made a Marvel movie"

I fell asleep multiple times last night trying to finish this thing. I finally finished it this morning and feel like I didn't miss much.

Question - NWH takes place after this, right? Was there any mention of this event in that movie? I feel like a giant celestial hand sticking up would be a pretty big deal in the world, right?

Finally caught this on Disney+

Interesting enough to wonder where the story goes from here (if they revisit Eternals at all).

I doubt "the eternals return" but I am curious what happens with the rob snows character.

Marvel hasn't really ever abandoned a project, at least not yet.

I don't think they would have "The Eternals will return" at the end if they weren't committed to revisiting it. It felt disjointed. Kumail Nanjiani's superpower being finger guns 7000 years ago was pretty funny, IMO. Angelina Jolie was wasted. The evolved deviant and the idea that they were pawns of the celestials, just like the eternals was a throw away, but it could have been interesting to dive into that much more than they did.

I listened to a podcast that said it felt like the third movie in a trilogy. That sounded about right.

I think they do like the hulk and they don't get another focused movie but will pop up in other movies

finally watched it, was not impressed at all. I kept checking to see how much time was left. I feel like there was a huge missed opportunity with the smart deviant. His goals were the same as the Eternals, to stop the emergence. I figured that at the end they would have to work together or something, but they just kill him.

Also, phastos is able to fix their ship that was broke in half.

And I would like to know more about how their bodies work. They are machines, but they were there for 7,000 years without figuring it out? They get injured all the time, how does that even work? Surely in the modern age, some of them had to walk through a metal detector at some point.

idk, they seem pretty organic.

Although, I imagine Dane waking up in the middle of the night and finding Sersi's vagina in the sink, a la Archer

I don't like how they retcon'd the term, immortal.

That doesn't mean only certain things like deviants can kill them, it means nothing can kill them.

Kinda stupid that they called the Eternals immortal in the prologue only to have boss lady killed off quickly once the main story line started.

Most fantasy stories dealing with Immortals usually have them unable to die from old age, but can be killed

Have to agree, immortal doesn't always mean invulnerable in a lot of stories. Maybe way more durable than mortals.

Agreed.

Everyone knows I prefer the more "sci fi" stuff, so of course I really liked the movie. It was definitely slow and rather pointless at times. But I think they felt they had to really drag out the story to nail home how pivotal these characters are.

I'm willing to bet their next movie will be their Ragnarok.

So, did Eternals confirm the existence of Superman in the MCU? The conversation between the kid and Ikaris makes it sound like he's real or at the very least a fictional character in this universe. DC and Marvel have been known to team up in the comics, so maybe they're atleast leaving the door open for the possibility?
redline248
How long do you want to ignore this user?

I bet, if anything, it's just a nice way for Marvel to give a nod to Superman...and Superman is 100% fictional in the MCU.

You did just tangentially remind me of something...When they are trying to stop the emergence and Phastos has Ikaris tied down he says "I've been wanting to clip your wings for a long time." Why? There is never anything to show animosity between those two, or anyone else besides Druig.

Unlikely for now. I think it's just a pop culture reference like how Cap had comic books.

Saw it yesterday. I don't think it was a bad movie, but I think it's the first one that really takes away from the MCU instead of adding to it/complimenting it.
