Did Loverboy ever do any covers? If so, they would not fit the criteria of this thread because Loverboy sucks and would never do a cover that was superior to the original. Not ever.

Really love the Metal Mash-up (which was the craze during Covid where members from different bands remotely played covers). The mix of Mastadon, Revocation, and Dethlock (most notable led by Troy Sanders) did a cover of Megadeth's Holy War and blew it out of the water. Ten fold better than the original.

Lot of songs on here that might have a better flow/tune in the cover, but lose much of their impact.

I think The Band's "Atlantic City" is more enjoyable musically, but it takes gritty lyrics and makes them fun which kinda robs the purpose of the song.

I prefer S&G's Sound of Silence, but Disturbed's take on it was solid. Similarly to how I feel about Failure's cover of Enjoy the Silence. The original was a better song, but the cover is great:

And I'm a Cornell fanboy, but his version doesn't differ that much from Prince's original. Sinead O' Connor absolutely owns that song.

Also, this Chris Cornell Unplugged in Sweden is one of my favorite live recordings of any band. The cover of Billie Jean and Redemption Song are ones I prefer over the originals. His version of Thank You is also fantastic, but I can't say it surpasses Zeppelin.
