Many on here were good ones. Dwight Yoakum does good with Elvis songs.
My addition:
Live and let die - Guns n roses
Desperado - Clint Black
I could almost entertain that opinion if GnR had been the band to decide "let's remake Live And Let Die and rock it up pretty hard and bring it back and have a hit".
Alas, they stole the idea. Before they remade that song, there was a band that toured the club circuit and had remade that song, really even better than the GnR version. Two bands, really, but the same singer driving them.
Shock Tu was the first band followed by breakup of that band and some of them getting back together as Joey C. Jones & Bashin' Passion
They had originals and they had covers. Their cover of Live And Let Die always left the crowd going "Holy **** that was great!" They did an excellent cover of The Immigrant Song as well but didn't remake it, just played it like the album. And Joey could nail the vocals.
As their popularity was noticed on the club circuit, so was their cover of the McCartney song. The rumor is that some from GnR or that was close to GnR checked them out at a performance in L.A. and decided to rush a version of Live And Let Die onto the next record.
You remember hearing that another band (maybe Rainbow) had gotten wind of VH's cover of You Really Got Me and tried to rush their own version of it onto vinyl? Same thing here, but GnR actually succeeded.
Great song. Great remake. Not their idea. And the club band actually did it better.
Aaaaannnndddd now I just turned into freaking Redstone.
