"The Measure of a Man" TNG S2E9 is my favorite episode so far. At the end of the episode when Riker was all alone feeling like absolute crap for how he presented his case that Data was not sentient, Data comes in and completely flips the script. Data recognized better than Riker that Will Riker had to do what he did for the sake of Data. Because if Riker didn't do his duty, the judge would have thrown out the case and reverted to the initial ruling that Data was property. I damn near cried. Data is so awesome in that moment, I couldn't contain myself.

Data actually appreciates what Riker did. And I love him for it. Also his connection with Tasha. He's just such an amazing character.

One of the best Star Trek episodes
CNN is an enemy of the state and should be treated as such.

Patrick Stewart does a great bit of acting in the courtroom scene. The whole scene is great, but I specifically enjoy: "Starfleet was founded to seek out new life. Well there it sits!"

I just bought the entire series of Stargate. It goes off Netflix at the end of this year and from what I could find doesn't have a new home.

It's tough to separate the different series from the times they were made. For example, the original series was made during the race to the moon. For all of the diversity in the cast, the main three heroes are sort of different sides of the astronaut ideal of mostly military men pursuing science.

And while "Star Trek" isn't a shoot-'em-up type of show, Star Fleet Battles can be a great way to kill an afternoon if you play with someone who knows the rules.

"Functioning. Fully." Although watching as an adult, Tasha getting all worked up telling Data about the rape gangs back home is pretty f'd up.

Hulu and Prime losing Star Trek (first 5 series anyway) in January in case you need to finish a binge. Exclusively on paramount+ after that.

1st season of discovery sucks sure. But I feel like season 2 onward have been very interesting, especially after they jumped to a future where the federation was in shambles after most Dilithium had been burned away.

A) good call after Trek, to watch Stargate. For me SG > ST > SW.

B) another decent show is The Orville

C) All these DS9 fans and no one brought up Morn. Some great stories and one-liners.

Grew up watching TNG and setting the VCR to catch every new episode. It's the gold standard for me, although I did watch DS9 years later and found it to be very good in a way that my younger self probably wasn't mature enough to appreciate. Tried to get into Voyager when it was first airing and just couldn't. Maybe I'll try again someday.

And yes, season 2 of TNG was hot garbage. Between the writers strike and Gates McFadden being out on maternity leave... just awful TV. What was the episode where Riker and LaForge (?) were stuck on some jungle planet and the outboard motor from hell kept trying to mow them down? Just terrible. Edit: apparently I was thinking of "Arsenal of Freedom" from season 1.

Ok. Let's talk Star Trek:enterprise.

I dabbled an episode or 2 years ago and it didn't grab me.

Based on how ****ty alot of the new Star Wars and Star Trek was getting, I decided to check it out again.

I found a 'top10 episodes' list and watched them - and it was really good. Way better than I expected. So good I found the 'top25' list, and watched them all, and then the entire 4th season.

I am now of the opinion that it is not only good, but some of the best trek period.

If I am ranking, something like Top 1/3 of tos. Top 1/3 of enterprise. Top 10 episodes maybe of all the rest combined.

I tried but I couldn't get into any tng characters except Picard. I thought they all sucked ass. Same with ds9 as far as I even remember it. I recall it being bad. Voyager was just bad.

Maybe I'll try to reconnect with some of that.

Bottom line, don't bail on enterprise. Skip the godawful rod stewart intro. Watch the first few episodes, then the top 10-20 from seasons 1-3, then the whole 4th season and I think you have a real nice show to watch.

Enterprise does a bit of a shift in tone with the season 2 finale. Up until then it felt very TOS/TNG in nature. The introduction of the MACO's made it somewhat more relatable imo.

DS9 was probably the most in depth series for inter connectivity for plots. You had characters from TOS and TNG show up. Worf as a character had a great arc on the show and it expanded on Klingons, Romulans, and Cardassians. The first season and about half of the second isn't the best imo, but it is probably my favorite of the series.

The issue with DS9 being more serialized in story was that it made it harder to jump into one of the arcs and understand what was going one. TNG, TOS, and even Voyager we're much more episodic and skipping around wasn't normally a problem; however, this was why some events weren't mentioned between episodes or character portrayals were different. Janeway being one of the more notable characters. Though, the two part episode "Equinox" is probably the highlight of that series for me.

Like you, I think that Enterprise didn't get the due it deserved. Iirc if the series had continued we would have seen the Earth Romulan War which is mentioned in TOS. The relaunch books were supposed to use some of the story outlines from that.

Yo, Strange New Worlds is fire. There is a five or six minute video on Paramount + showing the crossover characters from TOS and SNW.

I like Pike. Of course I liked him in TOS too. I remember his pilot episode being in syndication rotation when I was a kid in the 80's even though it wasn't considered officially a part of the original series.

Strange New Worlds is worth getting Paramount +, not to mention Paramount + has every episode and movie from every other StarTrek series too…

So true.

With a little perspective it has some real promise. All of the other series grew into much better stuff as time went on.

I've enjoyed this series a lot and the things that sort of fall short for me are fixable - as the writers, directors and actors get into a groove it could get really good.

Agreed. I really like the whole cast already and the plot is fantastic. I love the Gorn as the overarching villain much like the Borg. It's so fun.

Fwiw, tried a couple of supposed 'top 10' tng episodes. Its just not for me. It has nothing good about star trek and all the characters are a bunch of frumpy yuppies that are just annoying. Even the enterprise looks like an eddie bauer edition.
