Kinda hard to argue against this. The EMH is certainly a fan favorite.

Star Trek really falls into broad categories:

Classic Trek:

Star Trek(1966), Star Trek the Animated Series, and Star Trek movies (1-6)
This is pretty much your "classic" sci-fi stories.
The original series and TAS episodes break down into a few episode types:

1. Social commentary
2. Golden Age Sci Fi short stories writers had that were made to fit Star Trek
3. Comedy
4. Terrible

What episodes to watch of TOS depends on which of the categories above you enjoy.

Movies: 1 and 5 are bad. 2-4 tell a story. 6 is the send off the TOS crew and stories.

TNG Verse:

TNG, DS9, and Voyager Star Trek movies 7-10

TNG great characters and great episodes. But will feel repetitive if binged. Probably can do a "best of" with this series.

DS9 tells an overall story and one of the first serialized tv shows. Takes a while to get its footing. If Sisko has hair then the episode could be rough.

Voyager is a hybrid of the two. Only Star Trek I haven't finished.

Movies: Only First Contact.

Lower Decks is complete fan service for Classic Trek and TNG Verse. It is awesome.

Action Trek:

NuTrek (Chris Pine movies), Discovery, Picard, and soon to be Strange New Worlds (Discovery's Pike Show)

I have mixed feelings about all of these. But they are short of their own thing. It tends to be very modern and action orientated. I am working through Discovery and I don't hate it as much as I thought I would.

Picard is a weird R-rated TNG that doesn't really fit as a continuation of TNG.

Your mileage will vary in this category.

Completely Skip-able Trek:
Enterprise.
There probably isn't a reason to watch enterprise until it is the last thing to check out. It had some decent ideas but generally flawed execution. Was trying to be a soft reboot that ultimately Action Trek has become.

Kids Trek:
Prodigy. Haven't watched.

you really have to start with the original series. if you dont get that down the rest of it doesnt do any good....

not that i am much of a fan outside TOS.

i dont remember the full number of episodes, but about 1/3 or the rest are great; 1/3 are just ok. and frankly 1/3 of the episodes are pretty much garbage.

I'd say find a good website giving you a top 25 and start watching them.

i personally would take the following in order they came out:

city on the edge of forever,
the cage,
ultimate computer,
doomsday device,
amok time,
mirror mirror,
space seed,
tribbles,
menagerie,
journey to babel,
assignment earth,
devil in the dark,
balance of terror,
arena,
enterprise incident,
i-mudd,

cloud minders wasnt super great but gets my vote for hottest female lead!

Ps; if you want to see just how bad it can get, have a drink and watch spock's brain.

City in the edge of forever is one of the top 3 episodes of any series, and was really groundbreaking tv. And it had Joan Collins, so theres that.
There was talk that this was the episode that QT was going to base his movie on, but I think that moved to the TNG episode where they went through that warp and the crew was all military.

I meant only First Contact should be watched. The other TNG movies are pretty skipable. I listed 7-10 as part of the TNG Verse family.

Totally agree. Probably my favorite.

I just cant find any charisma in the other series like the originals. There is a reason it started such a phenominon.

Picard was good, but i didnt really like any of the other crew, and i just couldnt get into the other series.

Fun story

Jeri Ryan who plays a former borg drone was born and raised in Germany. She won the role by reading the prompt in her normal tone.

Casting directors were amazed at how well she captured the borgs emotionless existence.

You'll want to watch TOS episode "Space Seed" before watching The Wrath of Khan, which is a continuation of that storyline. If you can stick it out and watch the entire series, even better.

Personally I don't get the dislike for Picard, I enjoyed it. I like Discovery, also.

So they taped one more episode with her after the one you mentioned, and it aired prior to Skin of Evil. Towards the end of the episode you can see her wave to the camera as a door closes in front of her.

This is one of those series where the thought of going back and watching that much content kind of breaks my brain. I saw most of the original show because I'm older, but don't remember any of it. Saw much of TNG but don't remember any of it other than I hated Wesley and have seen all movies. Haven't seen any other series outside of original and TNG.

The only movies I really remember are Wrath of Khan because it's the best ST movie of all time and the first Abrams reboot. Seen both of those multiple times.

Stuff like this is what makes Lower Decks so much more fun when you've watched a lot of ST.

There are plenty of 1 off bad characters.

I'm more thinking of a regular character that you just don't want in an episode.

Next Generation is the best. Don't listen to people that say Deep Space Nine. The concentration of bad acting and arrogant characters in DS9 makes it hard to watch.

Discovery is alright. At least the first season. It's more Sci-Fi than Star Trek.

Enterprise is like if you let a bunch of horny Trek convention goers write their fanfic and then have it actually put on film.

It's 1a. 1b. On next gen and ds9. Both are the best iterations of the real themes of Star Trek that Roddenberry had in mind. Enterprise was ok but, and this is a silly critique, it has probably the worst theme song of any show ever. It's just that bad. Voyager grows on you and is a great show as well.

Outside of next gen, ds9, and voyager…well, we just really need another Star Trek show that is basically a carbon copy. All else pale in comparison.

I find it odd that writers don't just repeat past success. Just make the show again with new characters that are not mired in today's political zeitgeist and instead soldiers forward with new and exciting sojourns with lessons learned on how the pinnacle of humanity approaches each situation with dignity, focus, and respect.
