Probably too soon for Dune tbh.... but I just got sucked into that world & could have watched for hours.
Can't wait for the second half. One of the best sci-fi films of all time IMO.

My top ten. I guess I'll just lump them into movies I don't get tired of watching.

In no particular order:
Jurassic Park
The Empire Strikes Back
Jaws
Shawshank Redemption
True Grit (2010)
Kelley's Heroes
A Bridge Too Far
The Mummy (1999)
Band of Brothers

I know the last two are mini-series but they should have been released to the cinema.

Agreed, I'm bumping Mean Girls for Crazy, Stupid, Love...fantastic cast that just works, underrated comedy/film.

I really dug the new True Grit as well.

Also, I was wondering if anyone was going to bring Kelly's Heroes into this. That's a good one. I think I use "negative waves" way too much because of this movie.

- John Wick
- Jurassic Park
- Oceans Eleven
- Captain America: The Winter Soldier
- Star Wars: A New Hope
- The Iron Giant
- Raiders of the Lost Ark

So many more left off too.

Out of a pretty quickly assembled list of my top 40, I managed to settle on this top 10. Not quite as difficult as I thought it would be, honestly. Some of you need to try harder.

1. Holy Grail -- No contest here. I can still recite 90% of the movie from memory, and I have a copy of the script for the other 10%. But I don't usually need it.

2. Groundhog Day -- I've watched GD about half as many times as HG, which puts GD into the 30-40 rewatches range. This is truly one of the best movies of all time, and unquestionably the best adaptation of Ecclesiastes in any medium ever produced. I even turned GD into a Sunday school lesson once.

3. Back to the Future -- One of the first movies that the future Mrs. G Martin and I saw together in the theatre. We bought tickets again right afterwards; saw it twice in the same night.

4. Raiders of the Lost Ark -- Without this movie and a Fedora, the future Mrs. G Martin and I would never have met. She still calls me Indy.

5. Serenity -- My favorite sci-fi space opera ever. Star Wars (I refuse to call it ANH) and Wrath of Khan both lost out to Serenity/Firefly when I had to really think about which of these franchises had the most emotional gut punch. I am a leaf on the wind.

6. Casino Royale -- There has to be a Bond film in my top 10. If I can only pick one, I guess I'll go with Daniel Craig and Eva Green over Sean Connery and Daniela Bianchi. But it was really damn close.

7. The Magnificent 7 (1960) -- The best samurai western ever made. 'nuf said.

8. Ferris Bueller's Day Off -- Comedies are perhaps overrepresented in my top 10, but it's just impossible to leave this out. Incredibly quotable and influential to this day.

9. The Great Escape -- I'm a bit surprised that this classic winds up being my favorite WWII movie, but it's the one I never tire of rewatching. Patton is great, but the use of non-WWII era tanks has always annoyed me. The Dirty Dozen is a fun action romp, but not very deep. A Bridge Too Far is an emotional beating. Bridge Over the River Kwai is the Citizen Cane of WWII POW movies, but it just isn't that fun to watch over and over. I can't find any flaws with The Great Escape. Great cast and score, too.

10. WALL-E -- A Pixar movie has to make my top 10, and WALL-E gets the nod due to the sci-fi setting and inventive, efficient story telling without excess exposition or dialogue. Yes, I can see how some viewers may be turned off by the preachy "save the Earth" overtones, but I don't care. Deep down it's a classic love story.

No honorable mentions. Them's the rules.

I can't list non-comedic movies though I admit they are the "best movies" usually. The comedies are my favorite and it's hard to choose my favorites.

1- Raising Arizona. The Coen brothers are masters of their craft. Not every movie by them is a hit but they will be well-crafted. Miller's Crossing by them is my go-to when some asks for a movie recommendation of something they likely haven't seen.

2- Caddyshack and Airplane. Released in July 1980, these movies were game changers and frequently quoted.

4- Blues Brothers. A humble take on struggling musicians who are on a mission from God.

5- The Princess Bride. Another movie full of quotes

6- The Three Amigos. I'd be interested in a modern day reboot with a serious take, kind of like how Beverly Hills Cop and Cobra have the same plot but different tones.

7- Blazing Saddles. Young Frankenstein was considered for this spot but you can't beat this flick. Spaceballs is nice but no Blazing Saddles. The Producers is another Mel Brooks great that doesn't get enough love, either version.

8- National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. The greatest holiday movie ever, followed by Planes, Trains, and Automobiles and Scrooged.

9- Office Space. Mike Judge brings laughter to everyone who has ever not wanted to go work.

10- Groundhog Day.

10- Groundhog Day.

Honorable mentions that I start watching when I find them on tv-
Last of the Mohicans, 2001 Space Odyssey, Die Hard, Full Metal Jacket, Gettysburg, first two Godfather movies, last two Captain America movies, Hellboy 2, Edge of Tomorrow, Maverick, O Brother Where Art Thou?, One Flew Over the ****oo's Nest, The Professional, Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead, Secondhand Lions, Tombstone, and We we're Soldiers

Interesting, because I am just the opposite. I can't place a true comedy in my top 10 because sometimes comedies start to wear on me, and I don't feel in the mood to laugh. If I feel that way, the rest of the movie better be quality, and just funny.

I have some movies that are funny, but not necessarily classified as a "comedy".
