This is an impossible request but I'll try to curate a top 10 (not in order):
- True Lies - my favorite action/comedy movie to watch as a kid with my Dad. The best use of Tom Arnold ever.
- Inception - my favorite non-comic movie by Nolan (could easily put Prestige or Interstellar here)
- Jurassic Park - was mind-blowing and still is
- Terminator 2 - same as JP
- Super Troopers - saw it in theater with no idea what it was about. Seeing the first scene with no background of what was happening is possibly my top theater experience of all time. I didn't know it was a comedy.
- The Matrix - completely blown away when I saw it in theaters. Didn't fully follow so had to see it immediately the next day. Just watched it again and it's amazing how well it holds up.
- Gone Girl - I think I'm the only one to have this on my list and it makes me weird, but I need Fincher represented. I love Trent Reznor's score and the acting and the twist and the dark comedy. It just strangely hits all the right notes for me. (Seven, Social Network, Fight Club could also be here)
- Inglourious Basterds - got to have a Tarantino movie (OUATIH is really close because I saw it in QT's theater in LA and it was an incredible experience, but I have to give it to IB because it came out right at the age where I started to really appreciate QT's dialogue driven movie style, hard to pass on Django Unchained also)
- The Dark Knight - my favorite comic book movie of all-time
- Edge of Tomorrow - Perfect movie fit for me. Great humor, music, action and emotional drama. I've seen it more times than any other movie that has come out since 2014.
Four honorable mentions that I highly doubt anyone else would add:
- GATTACA - I saw it in theaters in middle school (while learning basic biology) and I loved the look and the music and the story of an outcast beating the system. This movie is extremely underrated and is more and more relevant every day as technology advances. It still looks like it could have been made right now (except for the computers).
- What about Bob? - my favorite comedy movie to watch with my Dad.
- Stand by Me - my favorite drama movie to watch with my Dad.
- The Saint - I think this is another one no-one else said and I'm not surprised. I've seen this movie as much as any movie. I think Val Kilmer just crushes it, the music is awesome, and I just love the anti-hero aspect and the rise from being an orphan. So much great comedy throughout and of course, Elizabeth Shue.
This was basically impossible for me to do but I enjoyed having to make the effort.
