It was one of the head writers and Mikey Day. Apparently this sketch had been in the works for 5 years and just waiting for all the stars to align to actually do it. Additionally many suspected that the live taping was the first time Heidi saw Mikey in full Butthead costume, but she had actually seen him in full costume in dress rehearsal and completely broke then also. That made it all even worse for her in her words.

FYI that Seth Meyers and Lonely Island have a podcast where they talk about their SNL days and focus on a digital short each episode. It's been pretty entertaining for those who are interested in SNL and/or enjoyed Lonely Island's stint.

Yeah they're usually pretty solid. I flipped the channel when I realized Lyle Lovett was on Austin City Limits (with a great Chris Isaak cameo), so I'll have to look for the clip later.

Not yet. Those announcements are usually closer to the season premiere, and the premiere isn't usually until late September or so.
