Did you see the original? I'm surprised it made the 50th anniversary show, but this was a decent sequel.

Edit: I assume you are talking about the bridesmaids and not the opening skit, which was terrible.

Lorne said during one of the retrospective shows that no one was ever permanently, officially banned. If there was a way to turn controversy into ratings, he said he would certainly consider letting them back on the show. But likely there are people unlikely to ever be invited back. And of course Sinead has now passed.

On the 50 years of music they highlighted her and had a whole segment - now singing one of her songs - granted it was a big controversy at the time but so many better choices to highlight.

I caught Michael Michael and the Maxx a week or two after that Sinead episode out at Uncle Buck's in Oyster Creek, TX.

The lead singer held up a photo of Sinead during one song and said "fight the real enemy!" and tore it in half.

I guess they decided to leave the classic SNL skits alone, and go with B-Tier skits. I guess that's probably a good thing, but these skits they are calling back to are really surprising to me. None of them would I have put in the category of, "We should revisit this idea on the 50 Anniversary show..."
