Here's some good benchmarks for Way of Water going forward.

Rogue One: $17.6M, -53.3%
Way of Water: $16.2, -55.5%
Wakanda Forever: $11.1M, -72.8%
Second weekend:
Maverick: $90M, -29%
Avatar: $75M, -1.8%
Wakanda Forever: $66M, -63%
Rogue One: $64M, -58.7% ($96M holiday weekend)

Third weekend:
Avatar: $68M, -9.4%
Maverick: $51M, -42%

excluding 2020, this is the first time in almost a decade that both the domestic and the international box office are topped by non-marvel/star wars movies

I saw that discrepancy between the Numbers and Box Office Mojo. Really a huge gaffe to undervalue it so much.Gig-Em2003 said:
Avatar Christmas Day was $8MM higher than estimates putting the weekend at $64MM not $56MM. Christmas Day haul of $29.5MM will almost certainly be exceeded today. That beat, and a likely Monday beat of the previously estimated $26MM, recalibrated the potential box office here materially higher.
I think people are just being patient with this movie and not rushing out but they've got it on their agenda in the coming week…

Will cross $1B today.
MORE: Not including 2020, the last year two films topped the global box office that weren’t Marvel or Star Wars films was all the way back in 2014. That year it was Transformers: Age of Extinction & The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies. pic.twitter.com/8E3995axcG

did the person who did all the electoral college polls in 2016 get a job doing box office estimates in 2022? They were off by $14 million for Avatar 2 on Dec 25-26.Gig-Em2003 said:
Monday was $31.5MM, $5.5MM higher than estimate. Through 11 days it's at $294MM.
all I know is that if you search "avatar" or "Navii" (or however it is spelled) on furaffinity or deviantart, there really is not that much furry/fan art tied to WOW.Faustus said:
It's tough to get a good gauge on people going to see Avatar 2. Some people don't take the call, some won't admit to going to see it, and others prevaricate just to mess with the box office estimates.

12th largest Tuesday ever. $6 million more than it made on the 20th of Dec.
Well to be fair, many more people would have taken the 27th off with Christmas on a Sunday than the 20th off with Christmas still 5 days away.Brian Earl Spilner said:Quote:

This here is a big sign this is gonna have Cameron style legs. I think $500M+ domestic is almost guaranteed from here.
BOX OFFICE: At $1.1B, #AvatarTheWayOfWater is on pace to pass #TopGunMaverick ($1.5B) to become the year’s highest grossing film worldwide. Only 6 films have ever crossed $1B in under 2 weeks. THE WAY OF WATER is the first ever Part Two of a franchise to achieve this milestone. pic.twitter.com/Jg2DgVFHpv

It's crazy nobody talks about the movie that did $1B in only one day pic.twitter.com/O4RaZLdStQ
