That's really good to know, it was really rough last time I saw him. He was an added bonus when they announced this date.

Cornbread and iced tea took the place of pills and 90 proof, I guess.

Sturgill was epic tonight. Amazing show. It was an arena show, so everyone had a seat, but no one sat down. He played just under 3 hours.

"Go home and tell everyone you saw a real ****ing band tonight." Sturgill Simpson, Rosemont IL, May 9, 2025

Caught 311 at 713 tonight. It was a really fun show! They played a lot of old favorites and a little of their new stuff. It reminded me of high school and college, especially when the old and young frat bros decided to start a mosh pit.

Heading out to see them tonight for the 20th or so time. Whether you like their music or not, over 30 years they have absolutely perfected their stage craft and always put on a great show. Super nice guys as well - we got to be side stage for a concert in Houston a few years back and did the whole meet and greet and hanging out with the band. I'm an absolute un-memorable nobody and a Tim Mahoney remembered some random thing about me we we bumped into him at another show years later.

Those guys must quietly be one of the richest "second-tier" groups out there.

I saw on Reddit that some fans claim 311 is just going through the motions at their shows, and that they are all the same. But last night, they seemed genuinely happy to be there.

From all the shows I've seen they always seem genuinely happy to be there... I mean, when you are one of those bands that does a cruise every year you gotta enjoy the fans a little bit.

I don't think they go through the motions, I just think their stagecraft at this point is scripted and completely refined Nothing really raw about their performances any more. Hell, I've seen 20 shows and I don't think I've seen them screw up the drumline drumstick tossing once. They've practiced the hell out of everything. Which is probably why they are still drawing solid crowds every year for 30 years despite not having anything really hit for two decades.

I saw them in Irving this last week. Buddy Guy was great, he's the main reason I went. TT was okay, not really my style of music, but lots of talent in the band.

So many amazingly talented musicians have no ability to write a song that resonates with people, or lack the soul to reach people with their interpretation of a great song. TT is definitely in that category for me. Mastery of guitar is impressive, but there are so many great players that can either write great songs or elevate great songs written by others, that I am not going to spend time or money listening to people who can't.

I loved their first three records, and they are one of my favorite live bands, but I get it. They were great tonight.

I haven't seen Buddy Guy, and he was fantastic. I definitely want to see him again. I almost went last year, but I missed it, and now I am sort of kicking myself.

That's the thing, they are great. I am sure if I went to see them I'd be blown away by how well they play, and how tight they are as a band. I've seen enough of them live on tv and YouTube that I know they can play as good as anybody. But to me their studio stuff is boring and I just can't get into it, and i chalk it up to they must not be able to write songs. I'll go back and check out those first three albums and see if I can get past my hang up.

I'm late, but man. There isn't a better venue in the world. Combine that with the perfect mix of Turnpike classics and new hits, incredible evening. Bummed to have missed REK, but the standby life is a gamble.

Sturgill Simpson at the Skyla Amphitheater in Charlotte last night was great as usual. Venue is nice if the weather is nice (and it was), but I imagine it could get pretty brutal for concerts in the height of summer. Sound was great from the lawn.

He started exactly on time at 7:00 and didn't waste much time chatting with the audience; he did band introductions at about 8:55. The band sounded incredible, with special recognition for Robbie Walker's great saxophone work, especially on "Best Clockmaker on Mars". They played a great mix of his discography. A little lighter on covers than when I saw him in October, but "Midnight Rider" and "Purple Rain" were standouts there.

People watching was unexpectedly good. Saw one dude wearing a denim vest with a huge airbrushed painting of Amy Winehouse, and another dude with a white dude 'fro and mustache combo that made him look like a combination of Gene Shallit and '80s Weird Al.

10/10

Looks like Live Nation finally announced its concert week for this year:

https://www.billboard.com/business/touring/live-nation-30-dollar-summer-concert-ticket-program-1235970811/

I was worried they wouldn't offer it this year after not seeing any news on it, but looking forward to some summer concerts for cheap.

Got Billy Strings Fort Worth>Austin this morning after a cluster f of wrong pre-sale code attempts courtesy of Ticketmaster. The code was right, their system was wrong and they still suck. INTHECLEAR dammit!

Now just waiting to win the lottery on Billy tour ender Austin night 2 at ACL Live through AXS which might even suck worse than TM.

Followed up with purchasing two night run for moe. in Charleston, SC next month for a 90's revival.

Dear diary: not often you get to purchase tickets to 5 different shows of your two favorite artists of all time in a single day. It was a good one.

ETA: The whole point of my ramblings were to act as a PSA to please go see Billy Strings in FW or Austin if you can. Public onsale Friday at 10 am for Dickie's and big Moody.

Got the turnpike presale from Spotify today so I figured I'd check it out.

Was surprised the KC show is at the uptown, about 1,700 people. Figured that wasn't a good thing. $120 a pop for non seats 200+ for the few seats.

I get trying to be intimate but you could go a little bigger and not be priced absurd. Mainly mad at this industry trend more than anything. Glad we saw them at red rocks for $35 back in 2018

Just got back from seeing Chris Holt's new album release party at the Kessler in Dallas. Incredible performance.

He played every single instrument himself on the album but had a full eight piece band last night. A couple of you on here will be happy to hear that Big Mike was one of them.

Worth a listen here. He even got Mike Campbell to perform a song on it. Available on all streaming platforms free:

Michael Richardson. Local D/FW guy mentioned earlier in this thread that played Propositon Joe's wedding reception. Phenomenal all around talent.

I did just google NOFX and you're thinking of a guy named Fat Mike. lol

Man. It's been too long.

Had two brothers that worked for me on a survey crew in the mid-90's. They were all about NOFX and Bad Religion and other bands of that type, and remember them talking about the guys in the band. NOFX labeled themselves as "white trash, two heebs, and a bean".

Talk about some killer openers. $635 for 3 day passes is a bit outrageous though:

That's almost double what I'm paying for ACL this year.
