I've looked and I can't find any actor cast as Michael Jordan. Could this movie be about him but not even have him as a character? This movie looks very compelling as is but that would be an interesting twist.
the more i've thought about it, i actually hope MJ isn't a character in the film. there are so many ways having him in the film could go wrong, but i like the idea that he's this mythical creature looming largely over the film without actually appearing.
She Said, the Harvey Weinstein take-down movie from last year, did a really good job of doing something similar. There's only one actual shot of an actor playing Weinstein, but its from behind, while the only other times he's "in" the movie it's either a voice actor on the other end of a phone call, or footage on TV of the actual Weinstein. And yet, you feel his presence looming throughout the entire movie as the villain, almost like the shark from
Jaws.
Similarly, here, there are points in the trailer where Damon's character is either about to watch, or about to show to Bateman's character, game tape of MJ on VHS, and I bet that's how he's shown/included for at least a good chunk of the movie - through actual, real-life TV footage. I noticed that there *is* one shot of an actor actually playing MJ in the trailer, though, but it's from the back - just like Weinstein in
She Said - which potentially supports the idea that they're going to "hide" MJ throughout, even when he's physically present in a scene...
