There's a really good series of the podcast "Business Wars" that focuses on Nike vs. Adidas, and the signing of Michael Jordan.

Fantastic series. Coke vs Pepsi, Netflix vs Blockbuster, McDonald's vs Burger King are all great.

Also, Phil Knight's "Shoe Dog" is a great book.

You'd be surprised how many filmmakers hardly ever go to the theater. Nolan, though, walks the walk. Dude was seen at the exact same theater a couple weeks ago for John Wick. That's him in the black, and I'm assuming at least one of the other two is his son…

This is why no one goes to the theater because they are photographed getting their popcorn and juju snacks.

Also, he may not like the way his butt, legs, or midsection look and will be shy and hesitant to show them in public again. At least show him the pic and ask if he looks good enough. Maybe my wife has over-trained me?

Possibly, but it would suck going to the movies and have someone post your pic on Twitter, regardless of how he looks.

True, I was just being stupid. That being said, I am sure he has encountered much worse than a distant picture that he knew nothing about. Kind of price you pay that comes with the territory...not saying it's "right" or "fair".

Although there are some preachy loudmouth celebs who seem to want to meddle in the common persons' life and I feel much less sympathy for them.

Loved it. It felt like 45 minutes. Flew by. Every scene and every conversation had me thoroughly engaged.

Also I was sitting two seats over from a guy I could tell was a massive Jordan fan, which was pretty fun. He was reacting and fist pumping throughout the movie when people talked about Jordan being special.

Went and saw this last night with my brother. It's a solid movie and we both thoroughly enjoyed it, but I think I had set unrealistic and maybe unfair expectations before going in. Want to watch it a second time around once available on streaming networks. I wasn't "blown away" this time around like I expected to be.

I honestly think watching "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood" again the other night might have impacted my viewing experience to some extent. The production quality, authenticity, and nostalgia captured in that movie is pretty much second to none and blows this one out of the water in those regards (imo).

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it...great movie, but I went in expecting to be blown away and to feel like a kid again. I'm weird in that sometimes I like certain movies much more upon 2nd viewing and beyond...maybe that will be the case with this one.

This happens to me after I read insane glowing reviews on this board and get really excited for a movie only to be let down when I go see it. I've taught myself to seriously temper my expectations or stop reading about a movie altogether if I am really excited to see it.

Yep. To be fair I had crazy expectations after seeing the trailer for the first time, being such a huge fan of Jordan and his sneaks. It's a great flick don't get me wrong…just not sure if it's worthy of any awards. Definitely recommend it.

Also a pretty badass soundtrack.

Mae culpa.

I thought there was no way to tell this story without ever showing Jordan's face, and they found a way to do it. The flash forwards of Jordan's career during the on-site sale, combined with the reaction shots of everyone else around the table, carried the moment well.

This is a good movie. I don't know that I'd pump it up as much as some critics are, but I would recommend anyone go see it. It kind of reminded me of The Founder (about Roy Kroc turning McDonalds into a massive business), but with a more likable central character, a lot more 80's nostalgia, great sound track, and more humor.
Thanks and gig'em

I saw this yesterday afternoon and loved it. It may have been a little overhyped on this board but it was still great. I was 10 years old when this took place and remember the mystique of Air Jordan shoes when they first came out. I wish there had been more Peter Moore and his process. His character was the most interesting to me. I did chuckle a little during the flashback montage in the beginning when they showed a famously former male athlete's picture. It seemed like it lingered on him for just a split second longer to make you think.

Absolutely loved it, and it honestly may have even exceeded the hype for me. In addition to simply being a great story, told so efficiently well - and a throwback for adults, at that - it featured one of my favorite ensemble casts in forever, it was hilarious, endearing, inspiring, and also had a hell of a soundtrack.

It was way more emotional than I was expecting too. Damon's impromptu pitch speech was incredible, to the point where I legit teared up during the montage aspects of it, especially the part that touched on Jordan's father's death. Damon's phone call after that, with Viola Davis, was so poignant too. This movie could have easily been *just* about signing Jordan, but the player empowerment angle was really smart, and took it too a whole other level, all wrapped up perfectly by the final montage at the end.

Overall, as a Jordan head, and someone who was obsessed with Nike in the '90s - and Nike's marketing, in particular - this movie was absolute heaven for me.

Our crowd, which was maybe 90% full, clapped multiple times in the final act, and on the way out we heard two different groups raving about how great it was. It just felt so damn good to see a movie like that, without special effects, with a crowd who was *that* into it. It felt like the good old days, and to see it doing so well at the box office this weekend, relatively speaking, gives me so much hope for theatrical's future.

I do wish it was longer, and I'll admit that it felt a bit claustrophobic at times, hopping from office setting to office setting (it couldn't have taken them more than a month to shoot), but those are small quibbles in light of the smile I had my on face the entire runtime.

Saw it tonight and loved it as well. My only critique is Jason Bateman took me out of the movie a few times just because his small talk during the movie was so Arrested Development/Ozark that I seriously wondered if he adlibbed some of those lines. I really did enjoy when he opened up about visiting his daughter on Sunday's...that I totally believed.

There has to be one where Matt Damon needs to be saved in a corporate history story

Hadn't read this thread and for no reason in particular hadn't even given this movie any thought. It was just off my radar. Watched a trailer randomly yesterday and just went to see it and loved it.

Don't have much to add other than just a great story that revolutionized an entire industry, brought out all the nostalgia that gets me every time, solid casting, and excellent music throughout. And that Matt Damon pitch speech rang so true and almost brought a tear to the eye.

Noticed a 97% audience and 91% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes after viewing. That's more like it. Highly recommend.

I went to see this yesterday with my 19 year old daughter. We both loved the movie and the story. And for not knowing too much of the history, my daughter loved it too. Very interesting story. I really liked seeing the early 80's time period in the movie. They did a great job, with showing the styles back then.

I finally saw this yesterday as well, finally. I'm a big sneakerhead (my wife and I threw a sneakerball for our anniversary) and could not wait for this, but FINALLY saw it. With so much build up and personal anticipation there was almost no way for this movie to meet expectations for me.

But it did.

I loved it.

The writing/dialogue is what really set it apart for me, but there are so many great aspects of the movie (aside from the subject matter).

If anyone hasn't seen this yet, GO SEE IT. It's not a movie that has to be seen in a theater to enjoy, but these filmmakers should be rewarded with good ticket sales and I hope the numbers continue to run up.

I finally had a chance to see this movie and really loved it. Caught myself smiling and laughing along in a completely empty theater.

My only complaint, and it's a small one - I wondered how they were going to pull off the lack of Jordan. And I think they were *this* close... As good as Damon's speech was, I didn't walk away feeling like Jordan had bought into the Nike opportunity. Leading into the scene, it's clear he wasn't interested. And based on what I've read about the real meeting, Jordan started out very uninterested, but the more he heard, the more excited he got. I know what they were trying to do, but it didn't quite get there for me.

This was my take. I enjoyed the movie, it was fun, well acted, no slow parts. But it was a little overhyped. In the movie Phil Knight was super skeptical about betting the farm on Jordan who wasn't a superstar at the time, then Sonny comes to him about giving Jordan a percentage of sales and Knight agrees right away. It just didn't make sense to me and that part felt a little rushed.
