Absolutely loved it, and it honestly may have even exceeded the hype for me. In addition to simply being a great story, told so efficiently well - and a throwback for adults, at that - it featured one of my favorite ensemble casts in forever, it was hilarious, endearing, inspiring, and also had a hell of a soundtrack.
It was way more emotional than I was expecting too. Damon's impromptu pitch speech was incredible, to the point where I legit teared up during the montage aspects of it, especially the part that touched on Jordan's father's death. Damon's phone call after that, with Viola Davis, was so poignant too. This movie could have easily been *just* about signing Jordan, but the player empowerment angle was really smart, and took it too a whole other level, all wrapped up perfectly by the final montage at the end.
Overall, as a Jordan head, and someone who was obsessed with Nike in the '90s - and Nike's marketing, in particular - this movie was absolute heaven for me.
Our crowd, which was maybe 90% full, clapped multiple times in the final act, and on the way out we heard two different groups raving about how great it was. It just felt so damn good to see a movie like that, without special effects, with a crowd who was *that* into it. It felt like the good old days, and to see it doing so well at the box office this weekend, relatively speaking, gives me so much hope for theatrical's future.
I do wish it was longer, and I'll admit that it felt a bit claustrophobic at times, hopping from office setting to office setting (it couldn't have taken them more than a month to shoot), but those are small quibbles in light of the smile I had my on face the entire runtime.
