Sure, I get it. It just kind of sucks knowing Sonny never visited the Jordan's home and spoke with his mom, MJ's mom didn't ask for a royalty %, MJ's agent in the movie was nothing like the real life agent who actually pushed him to choose Nike, etc.

I enjoyed it but the story probably would have made a better documentary if possible.

Affleck was just clunky and I don't like how retro movies about the 80s just pump song after song out to make us feel nostalgic. I did really enjoy the dialogue between Damon and just about everyone else in the movie, especially Davis and the agent.

This was based on a 30 for 30 so find that.

They didn't mention Phil or Sonny at all. It was all about the agent.
If you say you hate the state of politics in this nation and you don't get involved in it, you obviously don't hate the state of politics in this nation.

Rudy's team never gave up their spot on the roster.

It's a movie inspired by a true story.

If you grew up on MJ, this is another great piece of entertainment. If not, it's average. I loved it.

Thought it was fun, although I think a biopic about Jordans life until the 1996 championship would be a much better story. You have the beginning years trying to win, him having success, it going to his head, his dad dying and him going to the MLB, and then your climax is him beating the Jazz with the flu.

Would probably need to wait for MJ to pass before you could cover the dad angle safely and truthfully.

Do yall actually have enough knowledge of the way phil knight acts to say that Affleck was playing a caricature of him? I couldn't pick Phil put of a 1 man lineup let alone know if someone was portraying a caricature of him.
I've seen a handful of interviews with Knight, but in general it just felt like he was trying too hard. Affleck is usually outstanding and the cast overall was great, but he felt a little forced in this one.

The problem is who is going to be cast as MJ? There's a reason he isn't really seen or heard in this movie.

That's what's amazing about Showtime...the fact they found a very believable Magic (also ironically MJ) and I think if they really looked they might have been able to find a young Jordan like they did Magic.

Maybe use his son Marcus, who knows, but the way it's shot it doesn't really matter since it's Damon and Davis carrying most scenes that involved Mike anyway.

This is the type of movie I usually like, and I enjoyed it. I'm not an NBA fan at all, but I still found the behind-the-scenes stuff interesting.

Whenever they would worry about $250,000 contract, I had to remind myself this was the '80s and it was a whole different marketing environment. That's chump change in today's world.

I thought Ben Affleck's wig made him look like Sonny Corleone.

The wife and I watched this last night. We loved all the (maybe) cheesy 80s references. At one point I commented that this kind of movie holds little suspense since we knew how it was going to turn out, but she did make a good counter-point (given how little I ever followed Jordan and didn't give a rip about the brand of shoes he had or even that I wore in those days) that we didn't know the specifics of how this story was going to get to its end.

I arranged my time at A&M in the 90's around Bulls games on WGN which was a local channel back then.
This movie was great. And it's free on Amazon Prime Video.

Only time I ever cared for NBA was Jordan / Bird era. The movie was well done. I rarely watch TV and watched this one twice. Great story.

Cable tv is not a local channel.

We had 1.5 local channels in the 1990s.

Watched it on Prime last night and enjoyed all of it except for Chris Tucker. His scenes were damn near unwatchable.

Enjoyed the 1976 Decathlon pic and the Steve Prefontaine pix in the background. Enjoyed the shot of the original waffle iron.

I did some work at the Beaverton campus in 2006. Great campus. Wish I would have known you can steal from the snack bar after hours.

Y'all complaining about Nike Basketball betting the farm on Jordan need to go watch the 30 for 30 on Sam Bowie.

And as TCTTS said, it's a movie, not a documentary.

I was a little surprised that they showed Sonny to be a gambling degenerate in the first scene of the movie and never went back to it. But, as I thought more about it, he kept gambling, just raised the stakes to be the entire Nike Basketball Division.

Watched it last night. It was cool and heavy on the nostalgia. Acting was mostly good, but I don't know, the story just wasn't that compelling to me. Like it's an interesting story but there wasn't any real soul there.

It wasn't bad at all, I just felt that if the Jordan nostalgia wasn't there, I wouldn't have enjoyed it nearly as much.

So if the entire underlying reason for the movie didn't exist, you wouldn't have enjoyed it.

Haha. I kinda HS sophomore book reported there, huh?

How's this? It was an interesting story, but not very compelling, and leaned too hard on nostalgia to make up for it.

I think you nailed it. I know what the story is going in. I know how it's going to turn out. It was good but lacking. I don't know how else they could have told the story. But, it felt like it was always almost there. Not quite there. Hard to explain. No soul is probably the best.

Good, solid movie. Not spectacular.

It reminded me of one of my favorites, Moneyball, which I think is a better movie.

Damon is his dependable self.

I was quite impressed with Chris Tucker. The way he delivered his comments to the Jordans at the big meeting struck me as being very honest. I liked his character because of the way he played the role.

The two Jordan parents were very good.

Strangely--and I can't put my finger on why--the least credible actor was Affleck. He portrayed Knight's odd quirks, but without embracing them. He was "acting."

The music was great.

Anyway, it was worth watching and I enjoyed it.

Also agree with the Affleck comment here. I never bought Ben as Phil.

I had the same thoughts after I watched it.

I think one reason was how quick of a timeline it was. Seemed like it mostly took place over what 3 days?

Owned the first pair of Jordans when I was in the 6th grade. Enjoyed the movie. Agree with some of the comments that there seemed to be a little something missing, and maybe it was the Affleck-Knight portrayal. But overall, really good

Dead serious. Super light, feel good ending, lots of nostalgia bits that cause zero anxiety, some light laughs to it, the movie keeps the story moving along at a steady pace. It's a nearly perfect way to pass time on a flight.

Finally watched it last night. It wasn't bad but the whole time I suspected that they were trying to make a kind of uninteresting story interesting by embellishing characters and events too much. I'd really prefer to just watch a Jordan rise to glory flick.

Agreed, great time killer for the airplane. Enjoyed the 80's flashbacks. Otherwise average story and execution. Not the type of movie that put these guys on the map.
