I also think this flash forward was a conceit to those viewers who want Midge and Joel back together. They've already foreshadowed multiple boyfriends and husbands for Midge but she and Joel still have a connection all these years later. I seriously doubt he spends 25+ years in prison, or we see him go down in the '61 timeline, but who knows. He made it sound like a white collar prison, and I think he mentioned something about 48 months? After buying the church, I wonder if he eventually becomes a big New York club/real estate guy, then gets mixed up in something in the '80s?
Wonder if Zelda gets a flash-forward to gripe about how bratty the kids were, how inept Midge's parents were, etc.?

I feel bad for anyone who gave up during or after season three, because this has been such a fun final season, with tonight's episode reaching new heights. I was iffy on the flash forwards before, but now I see them as a stroke of genius, culminating in this fully flash forwarded episode, which not only gave the narrative more of an epic feel, but put Midge and Susie's relationship front and center, in a really endearing way (while also cleverly allowing Joel to take the fall and be a knight in shining armor).
That said, with three episode left, I have no idea where they go from here. I guess we've still yet to actually see Midge become famous, which should be fun, and then we'll of course get the Midge/Susie reunion in the future as well. Whatever they have planned, wherever we're headed, all I know is that I'm genuinely enjoying how well they're landing the plane so far.

I have to admit I was relieved to see that Midge and Susie might reconcile. Lol.
I recently learned that the actor that plays Mike (Jason Ralph) is Rachel Brosnahan's husband irl.
The reason I finally started watching this show (in addition to all the good buzz) was because Brosnahan and her husband were seated next to us at my favorite restaurant in LA one night back in July 2018 (I remember the date because we had just come from Mission: Impossible - Fallout). They both seemed super cool, but I was shocked at how tiny she is in real life, and him too. Anyway, when I got home I gave the pilot a shot, instantly fell in love with the show, and ended up binging the entire first season in a couple of days.
Cool story. I always wonder what actors I like are like irl. And then it breaks my heart when I find out one is a jerk. Rachel M seems really tall but that's probably because she shares a ton of scenes with a munchkin.
We watched S1 on a whim back when it first came out. Hooked instantly by the breakneck pace and clever dialogue and period sets/costumes. Every Abe scene continues to just slay me.

Was wondering if Sutton Foster was ever going to make an appearance on the show.
Pretty wild that we still don't know exactly how she gets her big break. I thought for sure this audition was going to be it, but that fell apart and now we're back to wondering again.

Finally got to watch the "roast" episode tonight. Possibly one of my favorite episodes of the series, and definitely of the season. Just great all around - such a range of emotions it got out of me.
This last episode I was really hoping for a full stand up set from her but they didn't do it - I was hoping that would be the "it" moment but it wasn't to be. I'm guessing they'll save that for the last episode and that will be that - done.
I really hope she gets the role as Lois. Looking back at her through Maisel and House of Cards I'd really like to see her in that role.

Abe's speech was amazing.
Kind of a scattered-brained episode for me. I think what they were going for was showing how a lot of people think Midge is special, but it didn't have the flow and polish of a lot of other episodes.
I still enjoyed it though! The dinner scene was touching and it made me fearful that the phone call was about Abe dying… until I remembered that we'd already seen him in future scenes. So my vote is something with Lenny; Midge quoting him earlier to her girlfriends was sort of a hint maybe?

Agreed, although his hand position and the level of the wine in the glass kept changing between front and side shots which was a bit distracting once I noticed it.
I've been reading a fan message board. A theory that is floating around is the call is about Lenny's death. Midge finally gets her shot on the Gordon Ford show and, inspired by the emotion of his passing and remembering everything he had ever taught her, gives the performance of her lifetime, propelling her into the stardom we've been waiting to see.jeffk said:

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense to me. He's been her role model throughout this process.
My heart needs to see a flash forward of Midge and Susie reconciling before this thing wraps though.
I think the call is that something happened to Abe.

I think if it was Lenny, we'd have been tracking him at least some during the season.
