I've noticed that certain studios do this every so often… they'll wait until the Tuesday or Wednesday just prior to the release to lift the embargo for reviews, sometimes especially for well-received blockbusters, but ones that might have a lot of spoiler sensitive plot that they don't want given away too early in reviews. So maybe that's what Sony is doing here?

That said, I do agree that the marketing has been unexpectedly light. I've hardly seen any TV spots, and it just doesn't feel like a big summer "event" at all, which is odd considering it sounds like they have a surefire winner on their hands. You'd think they could have at least hyped it as much as an old Pixar movie in its heyday, if not given it the push/awareness of your average MCU movie.

I went to see the first one with my son and his friend. If we didn't have his friend along I felt like I would have walked out of the movie, walked back to the box office to buy another ticket, and sat down to watch the same movie again.

I can't remember another movie that I wanted to do that with.
