Saw it this morning with my niece and nephew and enjoyed it, even with some random kid who was sitting in the middle of the row that got up about ten times to leave the theater for less than a minute each time. My SIL speculated he was autistic and was leaving the theater whenever things were getting too intense. I know we have a thread for these kind of complaints but I couldn't find it so you all get to enjoy my surly/old man yells at clouds post.

I need to decompress to talk about how great this movie it.

However the best part wasthe 8 or 9 year old boy in front of me who screamed "No way! This is wrong!!" when it said To Be Continued. He was pissed

But in any other universe what does Stacy dying have to do with Spider-Man suffering or his sacrifice? If the police captain dying is just some technicality that has to happen in every spider-verse, for some arbitrary reason, sure, I guess I get that. And it obviously makes sense in Gwen's case. But they made it sound like something more; that for most Spider-Men, experiencing some kind of personal loss/death of someone close to them is what truly matters. If so, if Miles already suffered that traumatic loss in the form of his uncle, why does he have to suffer again?

I understand what you're saying, but Capt. Stacy's death did not replace the impact of Uncle Ben. It occurred well after Peter had assumed the role of Spider-Man. It wasn't a driving force in him becoming the hero, it was a personal loss that occurred once he had assumed the role.

I honestly don't remember if it happened in the comics because his identity was known by Green Goblin, but in this movie, it was a direct targeting by the Spot to hurt him.

That's a huge difference now that Miles has been active as a hero. And a standard threat that has been addressed in previous Spidey and other hero stories.

ETA: In the comics, Peter had been dating Gwen and gotten to know her father, who actually liked what Spider-Man was doing. It's really one of the many great Spidey stories from the 70's

I'm not sure it's required in every universe, but the Canon seems slightly different from universe to universe. It may also be because Miles is not supposed to be Spider-Man and may be covering for his universe and Earth-42.

I loved the focus on Gwen at the beginning, but it is pretty common that there are some audio issues from this film and I know for my theater I maybe got half of what Gwen said

This happened to us as well. Saw it one of the best theaters in the world (Chinese Theater IMAX) and we could hardly hear a world she said during the opening sequence. Made even weirder by the fact that the rest of the movie was perfectly fine, sound-wise.

I always idolized that theater because I grew up going to Disney World. I finally got a chance to see Captain America Civil War there all those years ago and that was such a dream experience for me

That's awesome. They've added laser IMAX projection since then and just the best. It's never not a great crowd too.

At the woodlands cinemark xd there were audio issues at the start too. Just sounded odd. Seemed to work itself out after a while. Kind of when it went back to Miles' New York.

Otherwise, loved the movie. So damn creative in visuals, animation, action scenes. So hard to find truly original and unique movies that work any more. It was great.

And TCTTS' Twitter bombing of movie threads is always replete with hyperbole, even when the movie stinks, so he should expect it to be even more over the top when the movie is great.

And yet every single time I caution how over-the-top reactions can be / to take it all with a grain of salt. This time, especially, they just seemed particularly over-hyped, more so than for most great movies.

Either way, it's super weird how much me "bombing" threads with reactions, over usually just a night or two, annoys some of you.

I'm still mentally unpacking this movie two days later. It's supposed to be a kids/family movie, but man there's some deep layers to this thing. The way they approached Gwen and the pathos they gave her character is incredible.

Also, the number of great characters this series has put on the screen is impressive. Spider Noir, Spider Ham, Spider Punk, Spider-Man India, and Miquel O'Hara are all fantastic in these movies. Peter B. Parker and Miles and Gwen could each headline their own trilogies without anyone else.

I'll check in and say it was fine. To me this wasn't much more than an animated coming age adolescent drama. Wasn't near as good as some are making it. I just don't see what about this movie is making everyone react the way they are.

Also, (and i know we're not allowed to discuss this on this board) the amount of woke easter eggs in this was incredible

You don't see how clogging a thread with 50 meaningless review tweets can be annoying?

Having to sift through all of that worthless info to get actual Texags posters thoughts on a movie?

We can all go to Twitter for tweets if we want to, so there is no reason to link them.

New trailer? New info about the upcoming movie? Ok, those tweets are worthwhile…the "reviews"…meh….it's just noise distracting from discussion.

My deepest apologies that you have to move your finger for a few extra seconds to scroll past some extra posts, on a single night, just one time in, like, every other blockbuster movie thread. I can only imagine how harrowing that must be, and how tired your finger must get.

Seriously, though, "meaningless" is subjective, people here ask me all the time when reactions are dropping, and not everyone wants to go sifting through Twitter to find them. Also, I don't find that they "distract" from discussion at all, seeing as they're often one of the main drivers of discussion, in the week or two leading up to a release.

I actually appreciate your posts because it lets us know the pulse in the entertainment universe. sure it's twitter information i'm sure we could all find if we had the time but you know who to follow and what to repost. I appreciate that. In this case It was fun to come
to this thread and read what people said after i saw it.

i know you're somewhat of an "insider" out there and by passing along that info it kind of lets us into that world to get our finger on the real pulse of Hollywood. I hope you keep it up!

I'm definitely returning next week to watch in IMAX. I have no doubt Spiderverse will win best Animated Film.

It's early, but right now it's best picture.

I honestly don't understand where this ridiculous over the top praise is coming from. And I don't mean to single you out, I know it's coming from a lot of people.

But I honestly feel like I saw a different movie than everyone. Don't get me wrong, it's not terrible, but outside of the awesome animation, I guess I'm just not seeing what's so special about this movie. The pace is straight up a slog for a solid hour, and it's not that unique or fresh a story when we seem to be getting multiple multiverse movies/shows a year at this point.

I don't want to be a wet blanket, just honestly curious. I'm clearly in the minority though.

But I would say just in the past few months, I'd take Guardians 3, John Wick 4, Dungeons and Dragons, and Air both as better movies and far more entertaining.

I've also heard some people (namely John Campea) proclaim this as the best comic book movie of all time. Ridiculous. It's not even the best Spider-Man movie.

Doesn't even come close to Spider-Man 2 imho.
TCTTS

While I enjoyed the movie, and actually found the first hour to be welcomed, solid character development, I'm definitely more in line with you than those claiming it's the "best" anything.

It's fun! It's fine!

But yeah, I just don't get the over-the-moon praise.

I know I'm in the minority with my love of the Holland trilogy, but I'd probably rank all the movies something like this...

01. Spider-Man: No Way Home
02. Spider-Man: Homecoming
03. Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
04. Spider-Man 2
05. Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse
06. Spider-Man: Far From Home
07. Spider-Man
08. The Amazing Spider-Man
09. The Amazing Spider-Man 2
10. Spider-Man 3

That said, I wouldn't mind if Across the Spider-Verse was nominated for Best Picture, if only because it would continue to show the Academy is branching out, and it would garner added interest in the ceremony itself.

Homecoming above 2 is confounding.

It's fun, but it almost feels like a two hander with Spider-Man and Iron Man.

Maybe it's cause I was so close to that age, but 2 was the first time I felt legitimately interested in a superhero's personal life just as much as his superhero life. And the killer soundtrack didn't hurt.
TCTTS

I just found Homecoming to be ridiculously fun, genuinely hilarious at times, and perfectly executed. It's one of my favorite movie-going experiences of the past few years.

Spider-Man 2 was an all-timer when it came out, and I still enjoy it, but the Rami movies just haven't aged very well, IMO, especially compared to everything that has come since.

I think it's the last great superhero movie of that era, feels very much of its time. Before everything changed in 2008. (With both TDK and the birth of the MCU.)

Thought you could take some constructive criticism to make this forum better, my bad. Don't you have better things to do than post other people's ridiculous tweets? Nope is better than Hitchcock…ad nauseum for 40 tweets…bleh.

Whatever…you do you and I'll just ignore it.

It's not constructive criticism. It's you a handful of others finding reason to b*tch about anything and everything I do, no matter how innocuous.

Don't you have better things to do than post other people's ridiculous tweets? Nope is better than Hitchcock…ad nauseum for 40 tweets…bleh.

It takes maybe twenty minutes tops, if that, once every month or so, if that. Again, it's legit hilarious that it annoys you to this degree.

Whatever…you do you and I'll just ignore it.

Thank god!
