1. Goodfellas going through the nightclub and being introduced to every one. Gonna go get the papers the papers.

2. Rocky. Getting stronger montage.

3. Ratatouille. Introducing the different kitchen characters and explanation of a kitchen.

4. Fargo - no way wade! Finder's fee? The heck is a finders' fee?

5. Pulp fiction. Apartment scene. I still remember when I saw it and **** like that hadn't been made. I was blown away by the intensity and the SLJ character.
What you say, Paper Champion? I'm gonna beat you like a dog, a dog, you hear me!

1 - the same Jaws scene for sure

2 - this might be a weird one, but the scene when they get back from the water planet in Interstellar. The way the other guy is older and just the reality of their whole situation hitting them.

3 - Avengers Endgame- Portals

4 - I dunno if favorite is the right word because it's brutal to watch, but the beach landing in Saving Private Ryan is just so good and the first time I remember being like "oh ****" watching a war movie

5 - Rogue One - Vader hallway. You think you're emotionally done with that movie and then an all time "oh no you're not."

I don't know if it's top 5, but was literally the first one that popped in my head (maybe because I watched it a few weeks ago with my kids).

The scene in miracle after they have that crap game in Norway and he makes them skate sprints over and over. It's a drawn out scene that seems to go on forever with no purpose until Eruzioni shouts out "Michael Eruzioni. Winthrop Massachusetts. I play for the United States of America."

"That'll be all gentlemen."

Chills. Love that scene.

1. Fellowship of the Ring - Sam going after Frodo in the river. (Amazing music, great callback to Gandalf's earlier speech, and a perfect encapsulation of the fellowship.)

2. Return of the King - Theoden's speech and Charge of the Rohirrim.

3. Gladiator - "My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius."

4. Matrix Reloaded - Chateau fight and highway chase. (Cheating a bit but these back-to-back scenes make for an all-time action movie setpiece.)

5. Inglourious Basterds - Opening scene. (Maybe the best dialogue by QT, and turned Christoph Waltz from unknown to A-lister instantly.)

1. The Empire Strikes Back - the battle of Hoth, there is one scene with a bunch of rebels fleeing the walkers that are towering over them. It's a wide angle shot like something out of Lawrence of Arabia even though the walkers are in reality 3-ft models.

2. Raiders of the Lost Ark - the big Arab challenging Indy to a fight but Indy just shoots him.

3. Alien - Captain Dallas attempting to drive the alien to an airlock from the confined space of an air shaft that turns into a white-knuckle cat-and-mouse game.

4. Avengers Infinity War - Thor arrives in Wakanda amid lightning and brings the thunder.

5. Star Wars - the Death Star attack sequence that looked so much like something out of WWII

I'd rank the top five like this:

1.) Jaws scene about the Indianapolis
2.) When Forrest visits Jenny's gravesite
3.) When John Miller (Hanks) tells Private Ryan (Matt Damon) to earn this, after being lethally shot…and then seeing Old Man Ryan crying at Miller's cross grave and telling his wife to tell him that he earned the life he got.
4.) When Ray Kinsella asks John, "Dad, wanna have a catch?"
5.) When Fredo Corleone gets the ultimate ending for alienatng his brother and the family in The Godfather Part 2.

I realized while writing it that I could do it all with Spielberg films. I don't think this is my true top 5, but it's not far off. This is my top 5 with just Spielberg. 1-3 would definitely be in my top 5 regardless.

1. Raiders of the Lost Ark: tie between Indy just shooting the swordsman and the chase on the truck
2. Jaws: Indianapolis scene
3. Schindler's List: Schindler breaking down at the end
4. Jurassic Park: T.rex breaking out of the paddock
5. War of the Worlds: the tripods attack at the ferry

This one. I can't think of a better scene where tension is built through dialogue. The opening scene was elite, but the tavern scene is nerve wracking every single time.

These may not be my actual top 5, but just the ones that come to mind the quickest:

  • The Two Towers - Gandalf arrives. "Theoden, King, stands alone." "Not alone. Rohirrim! To the King!" And then that music... and the visual. I love the ride of the Rohirrim from the books and it is my favorite book scene, my favorite movie scene is this one:
  • The Shawshank Redemption - Showing Andy's entire escape with Morgan Freeman's voice over. Just amazing.
  • Almost Famous - The scene where the band denies the story, and William calls Lester Bangs (Phillip Seymour Hoffman). That scene may be my favorite PSH scene ever. It is so powerful and well done. Again, a movie I could point to so many scenes I love, but that one just always stands out to me.
  • Fellowship of the Ring - The prologue. This may be the greatest exposition dump in cinema history. I dare anyone to name one that is better. From the music, to Cate Blanchett's voice over, to the visuals. It is absolutely perfect in every way. Too long to post the whole thing.
  • Sicario - Prisoner pickup scene. From the moment they go into the briefing with law enforcement, CIA, and Delta all the way until they pull back into the compound. That scene is something I will just pull up and randomly watch. That was the first Denis Villeneuve movie, and one of the few i've ever stopped and said, "I have to know who this director is." Also too long to post the whole thing.

I feel like one of mine has to be from The Godfather since it's my favorite movie. It has so many great scenes. Hard to pick just one.
- "I believe in America" the opening scene.
- Michael and Enzo move Vito at the hospital.
- "It's strictly business." Michael plans to kill McCloskey and Sollozzo.
- Michael kills McCloskey and Sollozzo.
- Vito negotiates Michael's return.
- "I never wanted this for you" Michael and Vito in the garden.

I think I go with Michael killing McCloskey and Sollozzo at the restaurant. The slow zoom in on Pacino with his eyes darting all over the place while Sollozzo is speaking Italian and you can hear the train. Perfect.

The Princess Bride. Inigo fights the Masked Man. Probably my favorite fight scene ever.

Batman interrogates The Joker.

Requires more thinking but I think these are in there.
Corporal Punishment
