Meh, it was allwhite I guess.
There are a lot of things in pop culture that I don't "get"
But the Taylor Swift phenomenon is way at the top.
The obsession is mind blowing to me because it's almost a Beatles-like following and I don't think she's very good at all. Her songs are so corny to me.

I went to one of the DFW shows, and it was very impressive. Shockingly, it was one of the loudest events I've been to. Her fans are pretty crazy. She definitely earned their love. The show was over three hours, and the longest break she took between songs was probably 2 minutes. I'm pretty sure she hit every major song. I doubt any fan left disappointed.

I wouldn't dismiss her as just another mindless pop princess. I respect her talent. She's a very gifted artist. She can write her own songs, sing, play guitar, and dance....few pop-stars can do all of those things together. If she ever did an acoustic show with just her on guitar...I would go see that (not for thousands).
She's resonated with teen girls and female 20-somethings, 30-somethings, and even 40-somethings in a way that no other pop artist or group has in the modern era. I just hope they don't listen to all of her personal opinions, but that aside, she's created quite the fan following.
Today's music is filled with so much parity...most pop and hip-hop artists all end up sounding similar. There isn't much depth to modern popular music...even by 'pop' standards. Taylor Swift has clearly carved out something unique...at least with her early music that put her on the map.
That being said, there's no way I'd pay that much for a concert...even if I were a diehard fan. I wouldn't even do that for Stapleton. But she clearly has a rabid fanbase willing to pay it...well, maybe some parents who are willing to pay it haha.

I thought the people that waited in line all night to buy t shirts even though they didn't have a ticket to the show were a bit odd.

Not my cup of tea, and I didn't go to a show, but you can not deny that she is crazy talented and at the top of the mountain right now. She writes all of her songs. The production aspect of this tour is overwhelming and some of it is really cutting edge and has never been seen before. Good for her for being able to sell out these stadiums three nights in a row with what she's created. She's the hottest ticket in the world right now and is apparently giving people a great show for what they are paying.
That said, it's the spectacle/media coverage/FOMO craze surrounding her tour that drives me crazy, but I suspect people felt the same way when The Beatles came to the US.

My neighbors had tickets and sold them a few days before the concert. Then bought better tickets as the show was starting for less than the previous tickets. Effectively, got paid to go to the show. Pretty brilliant.

Can play guitar? Oooof. That's an achievement for a "singer songwriter"?
Can dance? Another groundbreaking achievement. Dancing is easy. Especially when it's choreographed for you and practiced.
Write her own songs? I struggle with this. She may write "some" lines but I'm sure it's sliced up and produced so much that it just sort of resembles the original version. It's marketing. Same as Toms and Warby Parker. And save me with the I know someone in the industry that vouches for her. I think that I've heard 5 separate times that they know someone close to the Swift's people and that it's true. That's statistically impossible.
She's some rich man's project that had a vision for her to resonate with so many young girls. All they have to do is doll her up, produce her music and market her. Now, it's come to fruition and people are spending ridiculous cash to watch her live. It's remarkable and unbelievable. Kudos to her and those involved.
My wife and one of my kids went, they loved it. Had a buddy there too, goes to concerts all the time and said it was the best produced show he has been too. I watched a live stream of some of it, and thought it looked really good.
I bought 4 tickets for $450 each. Sold 2 for $6500, the person that bought them didn't stay for the whole show.

Taylor-mania is a mania. It doesn't have to make sense. When someone captures the cultural zeitgeist, all bets are off. Now there are certainly reasons why she captured that zeitgeist, including some combination of talent, luck, hard work, and marketing - she was the right person at the right time, and she's worked like hell to evolve in order to stay there.

I'm mostly an indie music snob but I've loved Taylor Swift from the beginning. She has got it, plan and simple. She does write her music and most importantly she has vision and knows how to execute. That is her skill. From writing, to recording, to the video, to the stage presentation she knows exactly what she wants and knows how to get it done.
Look at folklore/evermore. She worked writing with very respected indie music artists (Aaron Dessner, Marcus Mumford, Bon Iver) and they came away singing her praises. Or watch some of the behind scenes stuff of her videos that she's directed or her NetFlix documentary. She is very talented.
If you don't like her that's fine. I don't particularly like Beyonce, but I watched the Beychella concert/doc and came away with respect for her drive and vision on executing that show.
I've seen a TON of concerts in my life, mostly rock/alt/indie stuff, and the show I saw at NRG Sunday was unrivaled. For stage production, presentation, audio/video, execution, and entertainment is was spectacular. She played for 3hr 15min and brought it every second of that.
I think our tickets were like $150 a piece in the 500 section and worth every penny.
Adele is next-level amazing, no doubt. I'm simply saying that Swift can wear multiple hats and do them well...particularly compared to your typical young pop star. There's definitely a lot of marketing...particularly with her latest album. But every artist in the spotlight has marketing. That's not a new thing.
I wonder how ticket prices/resales for peak Madonna would compare if adjusted for inflation.

Her show is great and it would be hard for me to imagine being in the building and not being impressed. She's doing something no act has ever done. 3h 15 min, 44 songs a night, 3 nights in a row, more for LA. Go look at artists you think of who have long and impressive setlists - few, if any, will top that.
At one point, the olds thought Elvis sucked. Then the olds moved on to hating The Beatles, Stones, Hendrix and Zeppelin. Next, it was KISS and disco. Guns n Roses was awful, then Nirvana and Pearl Jam, etc.
