I happened to run into this Francis the Talking Mule production on YouTube and really enjoyed it even though it is in black&white from 1951. The plot could be lifted onto a modern setting (CGI?) and make a lot of moola as it would appeal to both kids and adults.
Name an old movie that should be remade.

I like the idea of remaking old movies that were bad, but based on good concepts, rather than remaking good old movies.
Modern movies and especially remakes tend to suck, or at least suck the life out of good classics. Cgi is still largely ineffective, at least as applied, and pc/woke/sensibilities take most of the fun/grit/character out of things too.

Not that old, but remake the animated movie Atlantis (some big names provided voices to this movie), but in live action.
This is what should have gotten the James Cameron treatment instead of Avatar. The colors in the animation already have some similarities. Make this in the way Avatar was made. The story has more potential than "Dances With Wolves in Space" that was Avatar. The vehicles and look of the Atlanteans are cool.
This would be my choice.

Beaches
This might be blasphemous to some, but I always felt that, with the right actor, Escape from New York could be updated in a badass way. I love Carpenter, and he typically squeezes every ounce of a budget and shows it on screen, but the original film always seemed a little small scope-wise for such a terrifically epic idea. Again, it probably depends on the actor, because Kurt Russel is iconic in that role.

Honestly I'd love to see Star Wars redone.
I think they could make the overall political scheming of the film less complicated, and I've always thought Anikans turn to the dark side woulda been much cooler as an act of jealous rage over thinking Obi Won and Amidila were having a secret affair.
Also, the in story technology gaps between the original and prequels have always bothered me.

Another good reason not to -- if it gets remade, Hollywood will be compelled to add something woke and inclusive into it. Leave the classics alone.
I always think about dumb old movies like Hudson Hawk for this. A wise cracking cat burglar that gets pulled into something way bigger than him sounds like it should work.

They already did this. It was ROTN 3. Straight to tv I believe.

Don't disagree but I can't believe anyone thinks these three can be improved upon. On the other hand while I think a remake would more likely fail than not, I can see how maybe a different take on Gone with the Wind or The Wizard of Oz could work or a Back to the Future where the starting off point is the current day.

I suppose one could say Star Wars has been remade as The Force Awakens, but just remaking the original Star Wars (or Empire or Jedi) should never happen. Same for Raiders.
But imagine if someone was to remake Gone With The Wind or Blazing Saddles. Oh man, woke city those would be.

I was just being facetious with my list. The only one on that list that should be remade is probably Gone with the Wind. Enough time has passed that I think it could be done well if today's society can deal with it
