There will no doubt be threads for this on other boards, but I figured we might as well have one here as well, with the trailer dropping today. The episode itself premieres this Tuesday, and looks legitimately good/eye-opening...

Not so bold prediction... TexAgs will hate this. It will almost certainly have nothing to do with football. There's at least a 40% chance the NCAA launches some sort of investigation after this.

At least the trailer seems upfront in that regard. It's clearly way more about his demons.

I'm excited about this. I think there's some folks worried it'll make A&M look bad, but I think it's a fascinating story.

If the NCAA wanted to bust us for Johnny, they would have already done so by now. NIL has altered the landscape and they have their hands full without trying to dig around into the past.

Also, "TexAgs" is going to love this - Billy's in it.

I already love/hate it. I love JFF and this is probably going to make me laugh and cry both.

Yeah, I could be wrong, but I don't at all get the impression it's going to make the school look bad.

The tagline reads...

"The rise, the fall, and the redemption of a football icon."

My guess is we're more part of the "rise," and then the fame, the NCAA, and dugs and alcohol are going to make up the bulk the "fall," and play the part of the villain, not the school.

Regardless, I'm betting this episode will be insanely popular/top ten material for Netflix.

Oh no, the NCAA might launch an investigation. Run away! Run away!

Seriously, when LSU gets caught red-handed with money laundering and paying recruits through a hospital and they just get a slap on the wrist. Not worried.

Oh, we definitely facilitated/allowed his partying while he was here. That's the one angle I could see being somewhat embarrassing. However that coaching staff isn't here any longer, so it's not hugely consequential.

Yeah, I see that as more of a Sumlin thing, not necessarily a school thing, and he crashed and burned in similar fashion. But who knows...

Holy ***** I never knew about the attempted suicide. He pulled the trigger…..

I'm going to go ahead and give a big **** YOU to anyone who rips on him over this. He obviously was in a dark place and needed friends and family.

https://www.yahoo.com/sports/johnny-manziel-says-in-new-netflix-documentary-he-bought-a-gun-and-attempted-suicide-in-2016-161552241.html

"Still to this day, don't know what happened, but the gun just clicked on me," he said. "I couldn't fix what I had done with ... the NFL, with [Texas] A&M, everything. At that point in time I didn't have that much of a relationship with my family. The ride was over."

Not sure what he felt he needed to fix with A&M. He owes us nothing.

Better not read the football board then. Not sure who those jackwagons hate more, Johnny or Kellen Mond.

I for one cannot wait to see this.

Seen multiple people on TA claim the suicide attempt is a fabrication. Seems pretty crappy to me to immediately jump to that rather than believing the dude was that depressed and ready to end it.

I wish it was more than one episode. His rise and the ride all of us were on that 2012 season. High school could be an entire episode. The first half of 2012 could be another and the second half peaking with Cotton Bowl and Heisman could be a third. Then the fall and current status.

And agree this will be Netflix top ten for a while. We were in NY right after the Heisman in Dec and everywhere - I mean everywhere we went when I was sporting Aggie gear was yelling "yo Johnny Football". Subway, bars, street, Macy's. It was the best!

I remember in the ?early 00s? MTV did a reality show with A&M students. Just knew it would be a huge recruiting tool showing how redass A&M was to the world.

Instead they emptied the clown car of students who were morons.
Staff - take out the trash.

It was ESPN, not MTV, but the mistake makes absolutely sense because the show was much more like the Real World than a sports show. I'm pretty sure it came out that most of the students depicted were actually Blinn students. The show was called Sidelines.

I feel like his story has been told so many times in interviews and podcasts he's done, curious how much more there is for him to share.

Still a JFF fan while more than happy to admit he made a lot of really bad mistakes in managing his career.

Not at all an expert of his personal issues outside of what was readily reported in the media.

Bottomline is this. He did something with college football that had never been done nor seen before. He went from a complete no name to the very pinnacle of sports worldwide (collegiate or pro, doesn't matter). The media turned on him for what were pretty petty offenses for a young person.

And he made so many people and organization rich. Texas A&M, the SEC, the NCAA, Sumlin, Kingsbury, ESPN, Fox sports, and every talking head dipsh** that threw out a not so hot take on all things Johnny. I can't really blame the kid for losing his sh**.

He did more for our football program than any individual outside of Bear Bryant or Jackie Sherril. And that's saying something when you consider names like Von Miller or Myles Garret.

Hope nothing but peace and stability for Johnny. Absolute baller.

Folks who follow football largely know his story. Folks who don't will see a story of a kid who went from the absolute pinnacle of his sport to out of the league in two years. They're making this for that latter group, where he still has plenty of story to tell

Yea - they basically lucked into that episode. It turned out to be Blinn kids and some terrible band. For some reason, the bar they went to was the one on Wellborn in Bryan just past Northgate (Salty Dog??? can't recall).

I will definitely check it out. I don't think it will demonize A&M. I get the impression that it will get into the story of a young talent having such a quick rise to fame and having everything at his disposal...and getting lost in the bad choices.

With NIL in college sports such a major topic, I'm sure it will hit on the hypocrisy of the NCAA back in those days when they wouldn't allow athletes to profit off anything whatsoever. Johnny would have absolutely benefited from today's NIL. But none of that was allowed back in his time.

If we are being fair here - Johnny is probably owed millions by A&M.
Bunk Moreland
How long do you want to ignore this user?
He isn't owed anything. He didn't do anything against his will. He also used the platform that A&M provided him. Mutually beneficial. It's a shame he chose to squander it but sounds like he's in a better place mentally than he has been in some time, so that's great for him.

This was a great documentary

I didn't know he had gotten to the point of total self destruction as told near the end of the documentary. Did that story ever come out before now?

Sumlin and the AD should have done more to guide him

While we're on this subject of who owes who money, Texas A&M has a lot to thank Sherman for. About $750M worth of thanks, that is

I thought it was pretty good but could have been a lot better. I was mildly surprised that Sumlin wasn't interviewed for this. I assume he was asked and declined. I expected Eric Hyman to show up at least once. Johnny was kind of thrown to the wolves without enough support from A&M but he shares plenty of the blame for his downfall as well. And Uncle Nate was undoubtedly a dewsher back then (as was Johnny) but I kind of felt bad for him the way Johnny just absolutely dumped him and to this day has never talked to him since then.
