Yea, JFF definitely is the primary cause of his own downfall

I thought the same thing about Sumlin

Wouldn't be surprised if he and Nate reconnect after this

His house in Scottsdale looks incredible

I was kind of expecting it to end with him & Nate meeting up and reconciling.

Not so bold prediction... TexAgs will hate this. It will almost certainly have nothing to do with football. There's at least a 40% chance the NCAA launches some sort of investigation after this.

If the NCAA wanted to bust us for Johnny, they would have already done so by now. NIL has altered the landscape and they have their hands full without trying to dig around into the past.

Also, "TexAgs" is going to love this - Billy's in it.
JFF paid his debt to society with that first half suspension against rice

Sumlin and the AD should have done more to guide him

I don't know about the AD, but Sumlin apparently didn't even speak to quarterbacks, much less guide them.

13 minutes into this thing and A) it's incredibly well made, B) I'm getting way more emotional than I thought possible, even though nothing emotional has happened yet, C) I miss this arrogant f/cker so damn much, D) Liucci is practically narrating the entire thing, and E) it's making me irrationally psyched for this upcoming season, which we know will almost assuredly end in anger and heartbreak.

It really is so well done. And it's clear that he never really loved football, he loved the glory and what it provided but it proved too much and along with his mental health struggles ultimately destroyed him. It's tragic, whether you have sympathy for him or not. But it does seem like he is in a much better place now.

Damn were those years something though…

I thought it was weird that it basically ended in 2016 after he got cut and went on his bender. It showed what appeared to be recent footage of him and his dad at the very end and him being inducted into the A&M sport hall of fame at the beginning, but just didn't feel complete to me. I guess that was past his prime in terms of fame, just odd it didn't really touch on anything that happened in the last 6+ years.

It was definitely somewhat of an abrupt ending, but it felt like that was also kind of the point. Not much has happened these past few years, he's still searching, etc. I actually thought it was a bold and refreshing move to end on that note, with that kind of honestly and uncertainty. He's definitely in a better place, but still hasn't found his second act yet.

This. I finished it feeling kinda sad about that, but then again he's still just 30. I hope he finds some meaning/purpose in his life.

Man, what could've been if he'd stayed another two years. But that said, this made it pretty clear to me he was never going to make it in the NFL.

I really enjoyed it, even though his fall from grace was so heart-breaking.

Man, that 2012 season was a blast. JFF was one of a kind.

Thought it was very well done. Was a little scared when in the first 5 minutes it had a lot of corps scenes and then a bunch of old white donors glad handing JFF at the banquet... but it veered out of that and didn't really leave our program/school in a bad light (at least not any worse than any other major college).

And armchair psychologist on whose to blame... my eyes would certainly turn towards the parents. From what I read and saw in the doc it seemed like his Dad was very much happy to be along for whatever ride and only really stepped in to help after things had been completely off the rails. I don't know how many of you were super mature at 19 and making great decisions in college, but I sure wasn't. So when that snowballs into complete success it's not hard to see it being difficult to "mature".

And there would be some absolutely hilarious bumps on the football message boards where everyone was adamant there was no backroom signature signing going on when everyone and their dog knew it was happening.

I think end of the day the kid loved playing football wanted to be a star, but didn't really want to put the work in. His ridiculous talent got him all the way to a first round draft pick, but he didn't have the desire to put the work in once things weren't fun and easy. That's not a knock on him at all -- there's a ton of stud athletes before him that hit a certain level and just decided it wasn't worth the work anymore. That's what makes guys like Tom Brady so amazing.

Can't believe it's been 11 years since the 2012 season, still feels like it was yesterday despite how much has changed around BCS since then, in large part due to the money and popularity influx from Johnny.

I thought Kliff's comments throughout the whole thing really highlighted the atmosphere around Johnny and college sports in general. That man quickly understood he had one shot to let Johnny be Johnny and it was gonna lead to him getting a promotion to a head coaching job, and Sumlin was going to have to deal with the aftermath at A&M. Just like how A&M knew, that combined with the influx of coming SEC money, this was their chance to upgrade A&M athletics to a top tier level (at least in terms of money and facilities).

Hearing Uncle Nate's side of the story for the first time was hilarious. Amazing that a couple drunk 20 year olds duped the whole media world into believing Johnny came from some oil mega money family.

Knowing more about what was really happening with Uncle Nate and the autograph signing money really makes me wonder what would've happened if Johnny had NIL. I got the sense that since he was making NO money he went full speed the opposite direction to make as much as he possibly could by any means necessary. Maybe he wouldn't have been so hell bent on being a money making bad boy if he was making "official" money through the #2 jersey sales, sponsor deals, etc.

If you had told me in August of 2012 TexAgs and Looch would be on Netflix I would've laughed my ass off…still am laughing, Looch was great in his interview

I know another 8-4 football season is coming, and I'm ready to be hurt again

Pretty sure his family has always had money. His grandpa owned the oil palace in Tyler.

Maybe they dramatized how much and what jff was getting. But the documentary made it seem like they had none, pretty sure that wasn't true.

Family had some money but the amount of it was vastly overstated.

His dad has always been in the car business, people with F you oil money aren't wasting all the hours on a car lot.

Agree on all these points - surprised how emotional I got watching all of that over again. I watched the Loochador podcast interview with Ryan Duffy, Billy and Nuno, and they hadn't seen it yet - Billy kept bloviating about "hope I gave you a few decent soundbites..." I was thinking to myself: Dude - you narrate almost 50% of the damn thing!

Yeah there were all sorts of stories about how his family was part of the East Texas Mafia at one point, and how there was a cockfighting rooster named after them. Was all of that just BS?

Reposting my take from Premium board

Lots of thoughts
*actually got emotional watching highlights of 2012 for the 1000th time
*smiling at the JFF reference
*Looch was fantastic!
*should have been more than 1 episode, zero highlights of Cotton Bowl, 2013 season except Rice game, could've shown the Auburn horse collar/the Mizzou hurt leg then come back out and throw a touchdown/ChickFilA Bowl highlights vs Duke
*more high school highlights
*interviews w OL, Evans, Swope, other teammates
*he actually had some success in NFL, he was supposed to start against Pittsburgh on Monday Night Football and was benched/suspended right before

Couple things had me scratching my head
*I don't believe the for sale sign story - yes that's SEC legend that coaches get for sale signs in their yard - but hardly anyone knew Johnny that well after game 1, let alone where he lived AND I remember most Ags after that game being very excited about this amazing freshman that almost beat Florida. That's not a thing Aggies do.
*didn't show full 2012 season and showed record of 7-2 then just quit counting - no finish of 11-2 season with Cotton Bowl ending.

Overall it was pretty great - will prob watch it 4 or 5 times - ending was pretty much spot on - feels unfinished because Johnny's story is unfinished.

My post from the premium board:

I thought it was pretty good though I have the same complaint that I did with the Manti Te'o one. 90% of it was about high school and college and then they rushed through his pro career. I also wished they could have gotten Sumlin or former players, but I'm sure they declined. Kliff confirming that Johnny was playing hungover was pretty wild. I know that some people were in denial, blaming Johnny's downfall on the media, but this pretty much confirmed that it was on Johnny.

That was for practice he was hungover that one time (Friday of the MSU game - Kliff was like "well you better play well" talking about the game the next day). Went out on a Thursday night hard.

Granted I'm sure he was also hungover some other days too if snuck alcohol into team hotel.

I watched it last night and pretty much echo everyone's overall sentiments. Couple things I haven't seen mentioned that stuck out to me.

I miss Kliff Kingsbury. Dude was a cutthroat MFer as an OC and knew that Johnny was Johnny and he needed to let him be himself in order to get the most out of him on the field.

I was dying at his agent EB telling the story of the Browns private workout and him throwing to random people because the WRs were still drunk/hungover. Then Johnny calling Looch telling him he fckn killed it. EB was also Kliff's agent and I've heard them on podcasts before chopping it up and their stories are pretty crazy too.

I don't remember Johnny being that big of a ***** on the field while here. They made it look like he was being a headcase bad teammate trouble maker on the field and don't think that was the case. I remember a couple random dust ups and personal fouls but not really as bad as they made it look.

And I've said on other threads that I've had a chance to talk with a couple other players on that 2012 team and they said it was a wild time. They shlt they got away with that that staff let happen is unbelievable. Johnny said it best when he said I was just a frat boy and the football team was my frat

I agree with this....

In the montage of showing him yelling and making it seem like it was all negative was the Peach Bowl.....which was not him being a headcase and bad teammate, that was him firing up the team and leading us to another amazing win.

Back home, according to the Manziels, the cops saw Johnny's illegal parking job. Instead of writing him a ticket, the cops knocked on the front door after midnight and awoke his roommate. The police wanted to know whose car was parked the wrong way, offering the offender a chance to move it without getting a ticket. The intrusion set Johnny off. "They know where Johnny lives," Paul says. "They take him home after the games. They know whose car it is. They are harassing him."

Hahahahahaha CSPD gave me no such treatment. Wrote that ticket no questions asked for parking facing the wrong way in front of my house. Wish I had been "harassed"

I was thinking the same thing. And they didnt show the LA Tech game that was a shootout because our defense was getting torched by Quinton Patton and he basically put the entire team on his shoulders to win that game.

One of my favorite JFF plays is the wildcat snap to CMike on the 1 yard line, the ball is knocked loose and recovered by La Tech and Johnny sees what happens, fights off a block, chases the dude down the field and knocks the ball loose, another La Tech player picks it up and he chases him down and makes the tackle at the at 30.

I guess it didn't matter since the call was overturned, but that was really impressive effort.

And the lack of cotton bowl footage was sad too. That was a great game and pure Johnny. Showed his grit and his desire to win at all costs.
