No, not at all. There are Easter Eggs and sly references to past seasons, but no need to be up-to-date.

It's treated as an anthology, but in the same universe.

Each season's story stands alone on its own, but you may miss a nod to another season or a little context if a character happens to carry over, but I think that's really only happened once (in Season 3) without any exposition.

So far it's calling back more to the original movie than any previous season but if you haven't watched seasons 1 and 2 I HIGHLY recommend them. I also thought season 3 was pretty good but not up to the standards set by seasons 1 and 2. Season 4 you can skip completely.

I expect Ole Munch (the kidnapper betrayed by Roy Tillman/Jon Hamm) to be a character who survived season 1 or 3.

Welp....

I thought he would have an interesting past, but I was a little off the mark

Watched first two episodes last night, and I'm loving it so far.

I did find it laughable how atrocious that lady cop's husband's/boyfriend's golf swing was even though he was supposedly a semi-pro golfer.

Last night's episode got a little....weird. What is going on with Ole Munch? Is Fargo going paranormal on us?

Aliens are in vogue again… this show likes leaning into flights of fantasy

S1 - Billy Bob being some kind of devil
S2 - aliens
S3 - that bowling alley that existed out of time
S4 - the wizard of Oz stuff
Thanks and gig'em

Ole Munch is getting reincarnated from the 1500s doing evil sh*t, his scene while laying down in bed had The Shining theme music playing, so he is essentially Jack Nicholson's character from the shining, my random .02...

It's tiresome imo. Don't understand why they do this with this incredible opportunity.

Agreed. They better turn it around next episode or I might have to bail. Great potential for the season wasted.

It sounds like you aren't very familiar with Noah Hawley, this is literally what he does (amazing weird storytelling).

I can understand not liking it but how is it tiresome?

This episode was a little slower but still enjoyed it. I liked Dot's ingeniously simple plan of switching all the street signs although it did little to nothing except slow them down a bit.

I really liked the Nightmare Before Christmas masks, really eerie and makes me wish this season wasn't delayed and aired the first 3-4 episodes in October but oh well.

Also, is anyone else getting an Anton Chigurh vibe from Ole Munch? Maybe it's the haircut.

Definitely think they're alluding to that which makes sense because of the Coen connection. I also got Michael Myers vibes. Not sure if that's the knife, the "invincibility", or the slow walk to catch up to victims. It was the first thing I thought of when he slowly made his way down to the stairs to get Dot.

Seriously considering waiting a day to watch on Hulu, broadcast quality is soooo much better.

Good show. Juno is surprisingly fit.

Season 4 was still better than 95% of shows and it should get some slack due to covid.

Not a surpise if you watched Ted Lasso:

I want to find Juno very attractive, but can't get over those British teeth.

She's definitely playing the role better than I imagined when I first heard she was cast.

I never realized her Ted Lasso accent was also fake. She's really good at accents!

She's English so think that was more or less her real accent

Well you should watch it...if you don't have an appleTV subscription, do the free trial and binge watch it over a couple of weeks.

The 5-head is more distracting than the teeth.

Overall a kinda "meh" episode for me as I guess I expected more with the home invasion. I did enjoy the last scene, that was really well done. Hard to complain, though, when this show blows just about every other show that was released this year out of the water.

Agree. After all that buildup and a week-long wait, I was expecting more from the two home invasion sequences.

Worst part of this last episode was having to listen to Tiny Tim the first few minutes…Christ what a beating.

Loved the Nightmare Before Christmas number but yeah, that was a beating.

Apparently NBC is one of Noah Hawley's favorite films and in an interview he was comparing Gator to Jack from the movie as they both are trying to be something they're not.

Related in some way, reincarnation to Gaear Grimsrud in 1996 original I presume
