Box office projections often have nothing to do with whether a movie is good or not. Especially a movie like this. It could score in the 80s or 90s on RT and still have an underwhelming opening weekend.
#Supergirl is highly enjoyable.
— Germain Lussier (@GermainLussier) June 18, 2026
It doesn't quite have the resonance of Superman, but it acts as both a perfect companion and follow-up to that movie with better characters and more complex relationships.
It's also incredibly emotional, which makes the action hit even harder. pic.twitter.com/Mic27Q2jKu
#Supergirl is a great popcorn movie and the kind of summer blockbuster that audiences eat up. Make the effort to catch it in theaters. Leave your assumptions and preconceptions at the door and just enjoy the ride. I'm looking forward to more from Alcock's Supergirl in the future. pic.twitter.com/VyABiUiofb

Supergirl is the superhero movie I've missed: a straightforward, poignant story with lots of emotion, especially when we see Kara through little Ruthye's eyes. Luckily that's every action scene. Milly Alcock absolutely owns the role and will change our idea of Supergirl forever. pic.twitter.com/LrdtV9ZCJX

Milly Alcock is a total badass, delivering a performance that’s both fierce and vulnerable as Kara Zor-El. Can’t wait to see her in future interactions with her cousin and other heroes in the DCU. Keep them coming! 2/2 #supergirl @supergirl pic.twitter.com/kyCLvOsGOy

SUPERGIRL is not at all what I was expecting. I, too, assumed “superhero space movie with needle drops” would have a similar tone to GOTG or even Superman. Instead it looks and plays more like a Mad Max movie, with dirty worlds, gross villains and a self destructive hero
— Mike Ryan (@mikeryan) June 18, 2026
#Supergirl channels the energy of Gunn’s SUPERMAN while carving out its own identity. Surprisingly dark themes, MAD MAX vibes, and a JOHN WICK-style motivation drive the story. Milly Alcock shines, and Jason Momoa brings his trademark chaotic charm. pic.twitter.com/OoExPgB8Yx

I really dug #Supergirl. Milly is excellent and I too am a hot mess who locks in for work.

#Supergirl SOARS! Milly Alcock is the perfect Kara. This film is filled with gorgeous set pieces and dazzling action sequences. Momoa IS LOBO, but I wanted more of him. The scenes with Clark are priceless. Third act is F'N fun. The future is bright with this Supergirl. pic.twitter.com/eWTcYMlpFj

This is also more darker than I anticipated, with some effective violence that surprised me. This is a sizable improvement over SUPERMAN '25, where my appreciation has waned since I watched it. It helps Kara has a more developed storyline here and the humor is more sparse.

I also want to highlight the practical effects. The design, makeup, and puppetry are all Oscar-level good. Krypton looks incredible. And my goodness does this movie solidify what peak casting David Corenswet is as Supes. Every time he’s on screen, you can’t help but smile. (2/2)

I enjoyed #Supergirl! Milly Alcock and Eve Ridley are the heart of the film, and they make for a dynamic duo who are extremely fun to watch! The movie has some thematically dark moments that were very well done, and perfectly captured the emotional beats of the story with ease. pic.twitter.com/AAKriA0Wgd

Supergirl starts off as a slow burn, but once it finds its footing, it soars. Milly Alcock is incredibly relatable, bringing heart, vulnerability, and strength to Kara's journey of embracing her imperfections and discovering the power within. The film balances emotional character… pic.twitter.com/3VZafVmvBK

I watched Supergirl and, interestingly, it's a more compelling film than Superman. Milly delivers one of the saddest scenes in comic book movie history. The film balances action, humor, and drama throughout its runtime—sometimes messy, sometimes extraordinary, but always engaging
— MW (@jamesadans) June 18, 2026
SUPERGIRL is a bold, fresh and lively film that lets this iconic character shine. Milly Alcock is the highlight. She's jaded and brash, yet optimistic and so damn cool. Craig Gillespie’s vibrant direction has stylish needledrops and hyperfast action. Pace is short and sweet. Some… pic.twitter.com/LJAun0AAxd

#Supergirl soars at times through a scattered adventure at its best in moments of touching dialogue.
— Brandon Davis (@BrandonDavisBD) June 18, 2026
Kara’s arc payoff could’ve benefited from better story structure but Milly Alcock is great.
Wanted to love it, liked it. Practical elements & Lobo are standouts! pic.twitter.com/Yzekw4zP5H
I’ve seen Supergirl and people are underestimating just how good this movie actually is.

As someone who loves Woman of Tomorrow, my expectations were sky high and #Supergirl worked for me.
— Joseph Deckelmeier (@joedeckelmeier) June 18, 2026
Milly Alcock IS Kara, Eva Ridley jumped off the comic and onto the screen as Ruthye, and Jason Momoa as Lobo is perfect. Loved the practical creatures and old-school sci-fi feel. pic.twitter.com/XxjNuFfYfl
Pre-release tracking for SUPERGIRL has come down again, now sitting at $51M domestic for the 3-day opening, per NRG. SUPERMAN debuted to $125M last summer on much larger production and marketing budget.

That said, I did came across two or three "meh" reactions. No outright bad reactions, though. Basically people saying the villain is bland and the script is a little unwieldy.
