Since when does HBO/Max drop shows on week nights?

Had no idea this aired already.

If you subscribed to my newsletter (i.e. read the first couple posts in this thread), I laid out the entire schedule. For whatever reason, they had to premiere this episode and this episode alone on a Thursday, then all other episodes will air Sunday nights, starting Sunday, September 29th (so not this Sunday but the next one).

Also, the release schedule is a bit unconventional, as the first episode will drop/air on a Thursday, while the next seven episodes will then drop/air on Sundays on Max/HBO (all at 9 PM Eastern)...

09/19 - Thu - Ep 1 - 67 min - After Hours
09/29 - Sun - Ep 2 - 56 min - Inside Man
10/06 - Sun - Ep 3 - 59 min - Bliss
10/13 - Sun - Ep 4 - 58 min - Cent'anni
10/20 - Sun - Ep 5 - 54 min - Homecoming
10/27 - Sun - Ep 6 - 52 min - Gold Summit
11/03 - Sun - Ep 7 - 46 min - Top Hat
11/10 - Sun - Ep 8 - 68 min - Great or Little Thing

^ For those who might have missed it.

Fantastic first episode! I'm definitely hooked.

One question: Was the sound very muffled for anyone else? It felt like I was listening to it underwater. I thought maybe it was part of them helping to create a gritty cinematic experience, maybe it was just my TV. I haven't noticed that watching anything else though.

I never read first pages, so don't feel bad. I generally go to last post.

There's also a ton of tweets, which I generally scroll past.

Shouldn't some of this be spoiler-blocked since the show just started?

It didn't start as a spoiler thread, just discussion about the show.

This is how we've done every single TV show thread for as long as I can remember. Unless the material is based on a book or something, we've never done separate, spoiler TV threads. The rule of thumb has basically always been, if an episode has aired, expect spoilers/discussion from that episode the second that episode is over. And I've been pretty clear across multiple posts/pages now that the first episode was going to air Thursday night. Granted, given the weird schedule, I'm down for using spoiler tags for another couple of days or so (at least through Sunday), but otherwise this is standard operating procedure.

A - not complaining, just asking, so no need to get snippy.

B - I remember seeing threads labeled **** SPOILER****. Those are just for movies, then, not tv shows?

I was literally trying not to be snippy. It's just that people give me **** all the time for attempting to play message board cop or whatever, so I was trying to say "we" as much as possible, as to not make it sounds like *my* rule.

And yes, we often do separate spoiler threads for big movies, since not everyone sees movies at the same time. But for big shows/episodes, it feels as though a significant number of posters often watch the night something airs, and then everyone else catches up fairly soon after/avoids the thread until then. It's not a perfect system by any means, and I understand the confusion, I'm just saying it's the way things have been done for, like, 15 years at least, so I tend to assume most regulars already know the drill.

I do know, I just got confused between movies and shows.

I'm out until I get to watch the first ep.

Great first episode, and loved The Batman theme playing at the beginning.

Joel Maisel didn't last very long, unfortunately

I went ahead and added spoiler tags to my response on the previous page. Hopefully Lathspell can do the same (in the post I was responding to).

Otherwise, my vote is spoilers are fair game/no more spoiler tags starting Sunday at 9 PM Eastern, when the episode would have normally aired.

It's pretty much been widely acknowledged that an ongoing show's thread will have discussions about an episode after it has aired. Some people may still spoiler tag things as their prerogative, but I know I never do, and i'm usually a stickler about spoiler tags in other circumstances.

I think the only spoilers that are frowned on are if it's based on a book series that some have read, so they have more insight or knowledge than the average viewer. Kind of like the Game of Thrones or Fallout threads will do for bookreaders or those who played the games.

I generally make it a point to avoid threads on active shows until i've seen the latest episode.

Just finished ep 1, great so far. Oz is so damaged yet capable in his own way and Sofia is a fantastic character (and Cristin Miloti has these subtle crazy looks that are just unsettling). Love how they took no time to jump into a big inciting event.

Super intrigued to see where they take this.

Top notch. Really enjoyed it, I am excited to see how it plays out and if Batman gets some mentions.

I'm in. Great show. My only minor complaint is the actor playing his assistant. Doesn't give me the Gotham street thug vibe. Looks more like a Disney channel character.

Off to a good start. The dialogue was great, especially in the dinner scene. Felt like I should be watching this thing in a movie theater.

It definitely feels very cinematic, really similar to the movie actually.

I feel like he just turned "thug" a week ago when he lost his home and family in the flood.

Random thought/question on the end of ep 1...

That ending was epic and got funnier with Oz and Victor's conversation afterwards. Oz has obviously set things up to look like the Marconis killed Alberto and that will at least get him out of his current situation.

But Sal Marconi knows that Oz had his ring and can put two and two together, and he may or may not want to start a war with the Falcones. So what's to stop him from pinning Alberto's death back on Oz?

That just turns into a he said, he said. Who are you going to believe, the guy that works for you who may be treacherous, or the guy you betrayed and helped put in jail who has a clear motive?

I get that, but it would be kind of weird to send a very clear message that you did it then claim you didn't do it.

I suppose we're going to take an angle that it was someone else in his organization and he had no idea, just didn't feel like that all quite lined up.

Either way it buys him time until the next episode

This is another element I love about the pilot, in that it feels very Ozark in terms of Oz getting himself into a dire situation, with the walls closing in, yet he somehow manages, on-the-fly, to slither his way out in the end, only to likely have to do it all again tomorrow, having to face whatever problem eventually emerges from this particular solve.

Agreed. I feel like this whole season is going to him him flying by the seat of his pants, using his street smarts to knock off enemies and climb the ladder. I don't think we'll actually see Cobb as the fully realized PENGUIN until the last moments of the finale.

For sure, mentioned this in my first post and maybe that's all he needs. Can't imagine he's going to be on good terms with the Falcones for too much longer.
