That new poster is so strange. I'm at the point where I'm just totally suspending my expectations for this because I trust Nolan, but based on what I've seen so far, I don't really know what he's going for. Starting to think he's maybe taking it in a much different direction than most would have imagined, but it has me intrigued.

I think people need to get used to the idea that this isn't going to be at all "historically accurate" in terms of vibe/look/costumes, whatever that might mean in this context. Nolan is taking chances and giving us a kind of heightened ancient world we've never seen before, and I for one am here for it…

It's a risk he's taking, but I'm sure he's aware more potential ticket buyers care if the movie is cool or not than if it is true to Greek civilization of the period. I'd like to see a well-directed and acted version of the latter, but I'm prepared for whatever strange path Nolan is taking us down.

The prologue was amazing in imax. So glad I got to see it in person

Gotta be honest, Matt Damon's most basic American white guy voice while playing Odysseus just doesn't do it for me. Feels way too casual and awkward. I'll still see the movie though.

I'm with you. Even though they spoke Greek, an English accent just makes period pieces just seem more believable for Americans. Cognitive dissonance I suppose.
Denzel Washington in "Gladiator 2" was a good example of an American accent ruining it.

Accent is part of it, but I also think an actor in this role needs more gravitas. I like Damon in a lot of his roles, but this one doesn't seem to work quite right (but hopefully I'm wrong and he surprises me).

Or... we're simply giving the benefit of the doubt to a director who has earned it with an incredible track record / some of the best movies of the 21st century. It just seems... petty and short-sighted to whine at this stage, before having seen the movie for yourself.

Also, for the umpteenth time, there's zero sense in mocking its "historical accuracy." It's an alternate-universe/alternate-history fantasy/myth directed by a modern-day blockbuster director who is so clearly also inspired by modern-day pop mythology. It's just completely missing the point to complain about "ancient Greek brutalism" or whatever. It's like getting bent out of shape at the architecture in The Lord of the Rings or whining about Wild Wild West not because of the story but because there weren't giant mechanical spiders in the 1800s. Same as those and dozens of other similar movies, none of this was ever meant to have happened in our literal history.

In short, we're not carrying water for a director. We're simply stoked because we think it all genuinely looks cool as hell and we're not a bunch of kill-joy history dorks who need something to complain about on the internet.

Okay... that trailer looks epic.

People criticizing this before seeing Nolan's final vision on the big screen are so tiresome. This man has directed some of the best, and original, movies in the last 25 years. He is coming off a biopic epic that won him Best Picture, Best Director, and several acting Oscars (all actually deserved and not given as DEI hollywood bull****).

I think Christopher Nolan gets the benefit of the doubt. He has earned that. I even feel weird typing that because it seems so silly to have to type. Nothing about that trailer puts a single negative thought in my head. All I'm thinking is we get to see the original Western Epic brought to screen by one of the greatest filmmakers of all time. A filmmaker who still films movies on film and does everything he can to bring us epic scenes with little to no CGI, if possible.

If you are seeing that trailer and being negative, you seriously are a miserable person.

ETA: Also, I'm hoping for a 4 hour movie with an intermission. Do Eet.

I'm starting to wonder if we see the Odyssey through Telemachus's ears as he journeys around the Aegean trying to find his dad. And then all the scenes are of Odysseus are actually the recounts of his exploits as known from what others have heard.

I'm also still wondering how they fit it all into 1 movie. There is so much to it.
