Fiennes was incredible and it was a beautifully shot movie. I also thought the sound design was incredible.

These people are legitimately ******ed. How many people vote? These people are not willing to do 30 seconds of research for something like this and they expect the rest of us to GAF about these things? Coupled with all the abstain votes from the other tweet, if Hollywood types can't even be bothered to pay attention to their industry, it sure makes it harder for the common person.

The Academy needs a complete overhaul. This **** is embarrassing.

I am voter in certain categories for News EMMYs. With those, the videos are found on a voting database and you are not allowed to cast a vote unless the entirety of the stories have been watched. I know films are significantly longer, but it wouldn't be that difficult to create something similar.

A bad reason to base your vote on. Plus the reason isn't even correct.

That's about as bad as the one-off baseball writers who refused to vote for anyone 1st ballot because "if Babe Ruth wasn't unanimous, nobody should be"

Jabba the Conlin bragged about being the one writer to not vote for Nolan Ryan.

Ryan wasn't named on 6 ballots.

Alright.

Jabba was the one attention hooring the most about it.

I'm torn. I don't want to click because Kimmel is a blubbering vagina. However, I do love Conan and would love to hear what he has to say.

It was a bit of a down year overall. Lots of good movies, but not many great ones. So much so that I can't really rank, so I'll put them in tiers.

Tier 1:
A Complete Unknown
Anora
Conclave
Wicked

Tier 2:
The Brutalist
Dune 2

Tier 3:
Emilia Perez
Nickel Boys

Tier 4:
The Substance

Still haven't seen "I'm Still Here" and probably won't get to before the show.

My favorite movie of the year:
Sing Sing

Have the "anonymous" voting results ever been leaked or shared before? Or is my algorithm just pumping these at me? Seems strange that this is a thing all of a sudden if not being released prior years. But I do hope it turns the tide to help make this somewhat of an enjoyable awards show again. Or get some new voters in there.

I always wished they published the final voting tallies to see how close the races were.

Same. And for Best Picture they should eliminate one, in descending order, every fifteen minutes or so during the broadcast, until only two are left by the end. Pundits say voting tallies will never be revealed because of all the egos/politics/hurt feelings involved, but I say screw that...

I am curious how many best picture films the average person sees in the theater. Not sure this venue is average but I'd be curious to know anyway.

Here's a good list of all the winners over time.
https://www.widescreenings.com/list-best-picture-oscar.html

Obviously when you were born matters as well. For instance, I went to see Rocky with my dad when I was 8. After that, I didn't see an Oscar winner in the theater again until I saw Platoon. Here's my list, what's yours?

1976 - Rocky
1986- Platoon
1988 - Rain Man
1991 - The Silence of the Lambs
1992 - Unforgiven
1994 - Forrest Gump
1995 - Braveheart
1997 - Titanic
1999- American Beauty
2000 - Gladiator
2003 - Return of the King
2006 - The Departed
2007 - No Country for Old Men
2008 - Slumdog Millionaire
2010 - the King's Speech
2012 - Argo

There was a time, probably 20 years ago, I made it a point to see every picture that was nominated for Best Picture. I did this for probably 7 or 8 years, until at one point it just dawned on me. Most of the movies nominated for Best Picture are bad.

I consider myself a way bigger cinephile than the average person, and I've seen 6/10 BP nominees this year.

I imagine most people have seen 3 or less. If that.

Responding to my own post after looking at the list, and it looks like from about 1994 - 2008, I saw every BP nominee. I don't think I am being fair, though, saying most of those were bad. About half were very good, and half were meh. In some years, nearly everything was great (94, 97, 00 stick out to me). After about 2008, I saw about half the BP nominees until about 2015. That's when, at least for me, there became a huge disconnect between what I liked and what the Academy was nominating. After 2015, I stopped going to see movies simply because they were nominated and just went to see movies I was interested in.

This. There should be new spots/trailers every commercial break, celebrating the year to come, as the awards themselves obviously celebrate the year we just had...

Now that's a pretty cool picture. Hilarious that the Emilia Perez movie is covered up by a sticker.

If they were trying to avoid accusations of studio money influence, they failed.

If they were smart - which they don't seem to be - they should have a cold open In memoriam just for Hackman - all-time legend who seems like everyone respected. Show a great scene (take your pic) from the French Connection and another for Unforgiven.

Mix in some Bonnie & Clyde, I Never Sang for my Father, Mississippi Burning, then go to "My team is on the floor" from Hoosiers, then give the people what they want with him as Luthor and then go around the room to Clint Eastwood and Christopher Reeve's son and Denzel and whoever else worked with him.

I'm zagging on Best Actress & Actor, otherwise the same...

Best Picture = Anora

Best Actress = Madison
Best Actor = Chalamet
Best Supporting Actress = Saldana
Best Supporting Actor = Culkin
Best Original Screenplay = Anora
Best Adapted Screenplay = Conclave

I'm with you except Actor and Actress. I think Brody and Moore win, although I'd love to see Chalamet win, as he had the far more impressive performance imo.

Also think A Real Pain and The Substance might have an outside shot at Original Screenplay.

Here's what I'm rooting for

Best Picture: The Brutalist (Concave over Anora if it's down to that)
Best Actor: Brody
Best Actress: Moore
Best Supporting Actor: Pearce
Best Supporting Actress: Rossellini
Director: Corbet
Original Screenplay: A Real Pain
Adapted Screenplay: Conclave

I'm rooting for Emilia Perez to sweep. I've never seen the movie, nor do I think I ever will. From the clips I've seen, it looks really bad, which is exactly why I'm rooting for it.
