I get it but the war has been going on for 5 years. The geopolitical world can't revolve around what benefits Ukraine indefinitely.

The war has been going on for 4 years. If the geopolitical world really rotated around what benefits Ukraine the war would have ended in its favor long ago.

It's precisely because most of the world outside of Europe has declined to stand up to Russian aggression that the war still grinds on today.

pretty incredible that Russia can be in a war for FOUR YEARS and lose literally TENS OF THOUSANDS of armored vehicles, over 100 military aircraft, thousands of missiles, hundreds of thousands of men..

and keep fighting.

It's what Russia has done throughout its history. Its tolerance for suffering is legendary but not unending as the last czar and final communist dictatorship discovered.

Even more incredible is that smaller and weaker Ukraine has proportionately suffered even more and keeps on fighting. Apparently, there are still people in this world who believe there are things worth dying for besides power and money.

The United States on Thursday temporarily lifted sanctions on Russian oil that is currently at sea, allowing it to be shipped to buyers around the world as the Trump administration scrambles to contain energy prices that have been soaring because of the war in Iran.

The exemptions, which were issued by the Treasury Department, will be in place until April 11. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent estimated that freeing Russian oil could add hundreds of millions of barrels of crude to global markets, curbing prices that have been hovering near $100 per barrel as a result of the Iran conflict.

The decision was a significant turning point in America's effort to punish Russia for its war in Ukraine.

Yep, the "temporary" lowering of US sanctions on Russian oil exports came at a crucial time for an increasingly desperate Putin.

"Russia could ultimately end up earning between $5 billion and $10 billion extra a month as a result of the war in Iran and the easing of sanctions, and he says that is a conservative estimate."

Interesting times. How long before every infantryman is carrying 3 drones, as part of their regular gear. No different than mags for your rifle.

Campaign updates. Key takeaways:

[ol]
  • France reportedly will send Ukraine the newest version of the SAMP/T NG anti-aircraft missile system for battlefield testing against Russian ballistic missiles.
  • A Russian milblogger claimed that some units in the Russian military are forcing their servicemembers to delete Telegram, contradicting some Russian officials' statements that the Russian military would be allowed to continue using Telegram to support combat operations.
  • Ukrainian forces recently advanced near Slovyansk and in Kostyantynivka. Russian forces recently advanced in the Kostyantynivka-Druzhkivka tactical area.
  • Ukrainian forces struck Russian oil and energy infrastructure. Russian forces launched 97 drones against Ukraine, including in Chernihiv, Sumy, and Kharkiv oblasts.

Ukrainian drones can now reach as far into Russia as the distant Urals.

"The Ural region hosts critical elements of Russia's defense and economic infrastructure. These include defense-industrial enterprises, energy facilities, chemical industry assets, and major oil and gas fields that underpin national security and industrial capacity.

He also noted the region's extensive transport infrastructure, including key railway corridors, major road networks, and logistics hubs that support both civilian and military operations.

The remarks come amid ongoing reports of Ukrainian long-range one-way attack drones striking targets deep inside Russian territory. Ukrainian systems have increasingly demonstrated the ability to reach locations previously considered beyond operational range."

A look at the impact of civil defense on university life while under fire in Ukraine.

"As my chaperone from KSE, Alina Shmaliuk, came to escort me to the university, the first air raid of my stay sounded. "It's just a little Shahed drone," she said breezily, adding that you can hear them coming from far away, "like old crappy Russian motorcycles." The ones you really have to worry about, she averred, her voice dropping, are "the missiles, which you don't hear at all."

We have had 3rd parties verify astounding monthly figures so yes, I would believe a figure near that for killed/wounded considering what I've seen on video and considering the Russian strategy for taking ground in a meat grinder. Russia losing access to Starlink has been a game changer recently and trying to send ground troops into a drone controlled kill zone hoping they run out of drones is a recipe for disaster.

It's beyond ridiculous what has been going on for over 4 years now.

    Here's another

Magyar: Yesterday, taking advantage of the fog, the Russians actually began their spring-summer offensive on the Rodynske-Huliaypole section (100 km of the front). In particular, they advanced on horseback (!).

However, the bet on "invisibility" did not work - SBS worked out their assault groups on the approaches.

Result: on March 17 - more than 500 200th and 300th servicemen of the Russian Armed Forces. On the night/morning of March 18 - another + 277.

In total - in ~1.5 days: 900+ liquidated and half-dead only on this section of the LBZ.

Despite such losses, the Russians failed to break through any section of the front.

Seriously, one more reason to hate Russia.

ETA: To be clear, I wasn't blaming the Uke operators. They have to do what they have to do. I'm 100% blaming the Russians for the needless slaughter of men, and now apparently horses.

    Russia is renewing offensive ops.

"According to Ukrainian assessments, the increase in Russian activity has coincided with seasonal changes, with improved weather enabling more consistent offensive operations. Poor terrain conditions during winter months had previously constrained maneuverability in several areas of the front."

Ukraine uses a FPV drone to down a Russian helicopter.

"As reported by Ukrainian units operating in the area, the crew of the helicopter managed to exit the burning aircraft after the impact. However, they sustained severe burns. Additional reconnaissance of the crash site suggested that the crew's condition was critical, and that Russian rescue teams were unable to reach the location at the time due to the tactical situation on the ground."

Russia is really using horses more. This is insane.

For those who can't or won't click the link to see it on X, it is the (failed) results of an actual, honest-to-God attempt at a cavalry (horseback) attack by Russia. Several dead bodies of humans and horses are included.

Ukraine is reportedly finally employing its two donated Swedish AWACS aircraft.

"For Ukraine, the significance of the Saab 340 AEW&C is hard to overstate.

It brings an entirely new capability for the Ukrainian Air Force, which has never operated any type of AEW&C platform.

The core of the aircraft is its Saab Erieye active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar. Carried atop the fuselage, this can detect air and sea targets at ranges of up to around 280 miles, with the aircraft typically operating at an altitude of 20,000 feet.

Reportedly, the AESA system can track up to 1,000 airborne and 500 surface targets simultaneously."
