Lavrov: Russia will not agree to a ceasefire along the current front line as a condition for starting negotiations.

"We're ready for negotiations. But we won't let anyone trick us anymore. Although, sometimes we can be naive, and our simple-mindedness can be used to deceive us yet again. But we're on high alert right now," he added.

Translation - Russia is the victim. Same story ad nausem e.g. Minsk agreement, Anchorage summit, Black Sea grain deal, blah, blah, blah. Clown world because Ukraine now has momentum and Russia doesn't. Repeating their 2022's maximillian demands make no sense.

The cluelessness of mainland Russians who flocked to Crimean vacations this spring is astonishing, as is the arrogance of their disappointment that the country they have brutalized for over four years would dare to disrupt their fun.

Putin really has done an excellent job of insulating big-city ethnic Russians from the realities of his war. Till now. Now they're starting to wake up as Ukraine brings the war to Moscow, St Petersburg and the stolen beaches of Crimea.

Screw them....

The last time when the Soviets were humiliated by Afghans on horseback armed with American sourced weapons (Charlie Wilson's War) the Soviet Union failed.

So what happens if Ukraine ends up routing the Russians out of their country?

Either putin drowns in his bathtub or the russians rely on their nuclear weps. If putin can't find another way, he doesn't see anything to lose.

Putin has set up things such that there is no planned successor. The entire system is based around him. So there is great instability and uncertainty related to the immediate future when he is "retired" or dies. One presumes a new strong man will emerge with support of the oligarchs, military, and intelligence service.

I don't think we'll see a major rout. The mobilization efforts this fall will shore up their lines. Crimea will likely be without power and basically deserted by civilians come winter.

Will depend. If the logistics to support the fresh meat continues to be degraded then I doubt that they'll be shoring up anything for long. Pretty sure that's why Putin is pushing for another northern incursion from the Belarus direction. He needs to do something to take the pressure off or he'll be looking at serious risk of a deterioration along the existing front this fall/winter despite added manpower.

I am not sure the mobilization of fresh troops will really make much difference if they don't have the equipment or fuel to get them to the front intact and provisioned. The Ukrainian attacks on manufacturing are really starting to bite in ways that will have lasting effects on Russian production capabilities.

Agree. Throwing more bodies into the grinder might have worked in the 40's, but it isn't going to win a war in 2026 Pretty clear that putin and his military are out of ideas & capabilities and the best that they will be able to manage is an ongoing stalemate on the war front followed by an economic collapse everywhere else. Sad that so many will die when the alternative is the death of a single tyrant named putin.

It does make you wonder how Putin sleeps at night. The mental gymnastics required to justify the continuation of this SMO.

Bodies into the grinder were given equipment similar to what the enemy
seems like the bodies being sent in 2026 "are taking a knife to a gun fight"

He sleeps dreaming of how he "inspired" millions of Russians to sacrifice themselves to further his reputation as a master of military strategy.

There is a lot more to it, if Putin admits that he's wrong, he shows a great deal of weakness. His power base has been eroded by the conflict, he might not survive a defeat.

It is also a huge blow to him trying to project Russia as a world power.

However, if they don't make significant progress soon, then Ukraine's ever expanding ability to hit targets deep inside Russia are starting to have a huge economic impact as well as affecting the perception of the population.

Putin put himself into a box, now he's trapped. He can't stop the war without showing extreme weakness, but he can't win the war because the Russian forces are not capable. He's taking the option of continuing and hoping for a major breakthrough that will give the unlikely victory. That's his only path to remain in power.

Even relatively antique drones can still deliver under the right circumstances.

"Ukrainian forces destroyed three Russian explosive drone boats attempting to attack the Ukrainian coastline in the early hours of June 23, with Bayraktar TB2 combat drones delivering the strikes that sank the uncrewed vessels at sea, marking one of the relatively rare instances in the current phase of the war where the Turkish-built aircraft have been used in a direct attack role rather than purely for reconnaissance and strike coordination."

The Russian population will turn on Putin soon, he's rounding up more fresh meat to basically send to their deaths inside Ukraine. Meanwhile Ukraine is starting to lay waste to public utilities and refineries in Moscow and other areas inside Russia with all the new long range drones and missiles. Straight up nightmare situation for Russia. They have basically brought the war to their door steps. I give Putin 12 months max before he either ends the war or someone else in Russia ends or for him- which will spell doom most likely for his poor decisions.

These new long range weapons are a not what Russia ever expected to be used on themselves. **** is all changed since the war began.

Now that theyre hitting Moscow more frequently and Outin is relocating air defense, thats really going to open up the rest of the country. From what's happening in Crimea it sounds like Ukes are taking full advantage of reduced defenses.

Now if they can knock out more strategic bombers and keep hammering refineries...thats going to put a lot of pressure on supply lines. Imgaune mass surrender of front line troops that are starving.....
