Russia's economy is crumbling, this new measure by the Minister of Finance is proposing to force anyone with over $32,000 in their bank accounts into converting them into what are basically military bonds, so that Putin can continue his losing battle in Ukraine.

Even if this doesn't go through, the fact that she is recommending this shows how bad things are in Russia.
Now that it's leaked, I can imagine a bank run and even less trust in their financial system.

Things are bad in Russia, they can't continue their war forever. Sure, they may find a way to patch it up and delay things, as they have been since 2022, but all of these actions steal from Russia's future to finance an unnecessary war today.

Ukraine is putting late-model AMRAAMs to good use.

"Recently uncovered wreckage of an Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile (AMRAAM) reveals that Ukraine is employing the AIM-120C-8 version, a weapon that is close to the 'top of the line' for these missiles. Ukraine can employ AMRAAMs of all types from its F-16 fighters, as well as from the ground-based National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS) air defense system."

That won't create a run on the banks.....

I am just going to guess that all of Putin's buddies will be exempt from converting their riches...

This war goes on another year and they may start falling out of windows, or having their entire family drown in fishing accidents too.

Seems like at some point their self preservation instincts would kick in and convince them to stay away from windows and rivers…or kill off the guy knocking off everybody else.

In Russia, sometimes the window comes to you.

Why is the Pentagon holding up military aid funds for Ukraine while Russia relentlessly kills people there every day?

"Republican majorities on both armed services committees authorized $400 million for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative for each of the next two years. Appropriators fully funded that authorization for fiscal 2026 with overwhelming support.

Yet the Ukraine aid we passed months ago is now collecting dust at the Pentagon. When Senate appropriators have sought an explanation from the department's policy shop, led by Undersecretary Elbridge Colby, they've been stonewalled."

There is definitely a faction within the administration that for some reason ideologically despises the Ukraine assistance in particular, and focuses on is as unnecessary spending even in the face of a couple of orders of magnitude of other fraud and waste that occurs. It's seems like a group membership virtue signal, that to be a part of that clique one must be exceptionally hostile to support for Ukraine to signal preference for isolationist policy.

It's one thing I think to make the politicsl argument for it as policy but another to sort of put it into effect via selective noncompliance or delayed implementation of passed law.

I'm never quite sure where Trump stands on this while there is an internal conflict over this within his administration as Trump appears to dislike Zelensky and his refusal to negotiate with good cause but also be extremely frustrated with Putin's wasteful war and defiant resistance to Trump attempts to end it.

I just don't understand the small faction that seems so sympathetic to Putin as a sort of fellow traveler regarding focus on regional nationalism. That definitely doesn't comport with Trump's larger foreign policy.

Looks like they got a mechanic on the first hit. I wonder if they went back and took out any of the other support or better the pilots.

There was a post yesterday or earlier of them hitting a fix wing as well.

Yes the head of their FED talking about confiscating all savings over 32k in bank accounts and converting them to war bonds is a clear indication they are NOT running out of money.

This is also a sign that they are NOT running out of money:
The gold reserves within the National Wealth Fund dropped by 71% (from roughly 554.9 tons in May 2022 to 160.2 tons by January 1, 2026).

MORE: Ukraine has largely stymied Russian advances across the frontline, blunting the Russian Spring-Summer 2026 offensive thus far. Ukraine has conducted significant counterattacks in southern Ukraine since January 2026 that have generated operational-level effects across the theater. Russians are increasingly feeling the costs of the war as Russia's economy continues to face significant challenges, casualties continue to mount, and recruitment becomes more difficult. The Kremlin is very likely attempting to mitigate some of these costs by attempting to convince Trump and the West to push Ukraine to capitulate in a way that Russia's full-scale invasion has failed to do and is obfuscating its own military and economic failures as part of this effort.

Russia's oil export windfall from Trump's War is temporary. Ukraine's isn't.

"Geopolitically, Russia's support for Iran has likely harmed the country's relationships with the Gulf states. From providing Iran with targeting data and drones to issuing public pronouncements of solidarity with Tehran, the Kremlin has created ample fodder for years of grievances, even if both sides keep their differences out of the public eye."

"In contrast, Ukraine has turned a challenge into a triumph. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's whirlwind trip to the Middle East in March has led to defense agreements with the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. Even the portion of the deals that is publicly known is impressive: Ukraine secured decade-long agreements that involve Kyiv exchanging its warfighting know-how for energy shipments, financial aid, and missile interceptors. Ukraine is also pursuing three similar agreements with Bahrain, Oman, and Kuwait."

Ukraine continues use its new long-range weapons to ramp up strikes deep inside Russia.

"Ukraine struck Russian Su-57 Felon stealth fighters and a Su-34 Fullback strike aircraft deep inside Russian territory, at Shagol airfield in Russia's Chelyabinsk region, approximately 1,700 kilometers from the Ukrainian border."

Definitely waiting on better confirmation pictures but if -57s were truly damaged to the point of being inoperable or even destroyed, that is such a black eye to Russia in a loooong war of black eyes.

How embarrassing would it be if you keep your super duper fighter jet (ostensibly) out of the war for fear of combat losses only to have it picked off of the ground far in the rear?

How are they able to locate these mobile, high-value targets so deep in the russian interior? Are we still providing Intel or are they using other means?

Even if -57s weren't involved, the extreme ranges that Ukraine is now attacking at are what is most impressive. Russian IADS can't be everywhere in that huge country.

It's fascinating to think about the changes (and really the speed of those changes) that the war in Ukraine has brought about to the way wars are fought. And those changes have happened to real wars between countries, not just insurgencies or guerrilla campaigns. And that all of it was primarily brought on because Russia was a paper tiger that could not get close to accomplishing the task of overrunning Ukraine (at all, let alone quickly and efficiently), which meant that the fighting drug out, and time allowed necessity to become the mother of invention yet again.

Looking back on it, the Ukrainian victory driving the orcs out of Hostomel Airport and preventing the rapid airlift of troops and supplies to Kiev's doorstep on the opening nights of the war turned the tide long term. Had the Russians established that foothold and been able to short circuit the supply chain for troops massing around Kiev by airlifting supplies into Ukraine, this war would likely have been over in less than a month. It was a very pivotal victory for Ukraine.

Ukraine's unique passive acoustic air defense sensor network has been upgraded.

"Ukraine's FENEK acoustic detection system detects Shahed-type drones at up to 3 km and cruise missiles at up to 5 km using passive TDOA triangulation. The system is specifically effective against fiber-optic drones that emit no radio signals and are invisible to electronic warfare and signals intelligence systems."
