Ukraine is putting late-model AMRAAMs to good use.

Why is the Pentagon holding up military aid funds for Ukraine while Russia relentlessly kills people there every day?

"Republican majorities on both armed services committees authorized $400 million for the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative for each of the next two years. Appropriators fully funded that authorization for fiscal 2026 with overwhelming support.

Yet the Ukraine aid we passed months ago is now collecting dust at the Pentagon. When Senate appropriators have sought an explanation from the department's policy shop, led by Undersecretary Elbridge Colby, they've been stonewalled."

There is definitely a faction within the administration that for some reason ideologically despises the Ukraine assistance in particular, and focuses on is as unnecessary spending even in the face of a couple of orders of magnitude of other fraud and waste that occurs. It's seems like a group membership virtue signal, that to be a part of that clique one must be exceptionally hostile to support for Ukraine to signal preference for isolationist policy.

It's one thing I think to make the politicsl argument for it as policy but another to sort of put it into effect via selective noncompliance or delayed implementation of passed law.

I'm never quite sure where Trump stands on this while there is an internal conflict over this within his administration as Trump appears to dislike Zelensky and his refusal to negotiate with good cause but also be extremely frustrated with Putin's wasteful war and defiant resistance to Trump attempts to end it.


I just don't understand the small faction that seems so sympathetic to Putin as a sort of fellow traveler regarding focus on regional nationalism. That definitely doesn't comport with Trump's larger foreign policy.

Ukraine continues use its new long-range weapons to ramp up strikes deep inside Russia.

How are they able to locate these mobile, high-value targets so deep in the russian interior? Are we still providing Intel or are they using other means?

Even if -57s weren't involved, the extreme ranges that Ukraine is now attacking at are what is most impressive. Russian IADS can't be everywhere in that huge country.

We are, the Europeans are and Ukraine has contracted with civilian satellite imagery providers.

It's fascinating to think about the changes (and really the speed of those changes) that the war in Ukraine has brought about to the way wars are fought. And those changes have happened to real wars between countries, not just insurgencies or guerrilla campaigns. And that all of it was primarily brought on because Russia was a paper tiger that could not get close to accomplishing the task of overrunning Ukraine (at all, let alone quickly and efficiently), which meant that the fighting drug out, and time allowed necessity to become the mother of invention yet again.

Looking back on it, the Ukrainian victory driving the orcs out of Hostomel Airport and preventing the rapid airlift of troops and supplies to Kiev's doorstep on the opening nights of the war turned the tide long term. Had the Russians established that foothold and been able to short circuit the supply chain for troops massing around Kiev by airlifting supplies into Ukraine, this war would likely have been over in less than a month. It was a very pivotal victory for Ukraine.

Ukraine's unique passive acoustic air defense sensor network has been upgraded.
