Im probably going to get ripped and I dont care.

I'm SB but I am cool with anyone that loves the Lord with all their heart, soul, and mind. This interdenominational infighting is stupid garbage. God knows all of our hearts and I am convinced there are many Catholics that do infact love the Lord with all their heart, mind, and soul.

Some of you people want to fling poo at your team mates while Islam wants to kill or convert you and communist want to put you in gulags. This crap is beyond stupid, especially given God is easily big enough to judge us all. You either trust Him or you dont.
Amen.

Pope has pneumonia in both of his lungs as per reports.

He may not survive much longer. He is 88 after all.

I wonder if the Church will go woke/DEI and elect a black Pope? Or a female Pope?

Would love to see one of the African cardinals ascend to the chair of Peter. They don't play ambiguity games like Pope Francis. They tend to be unambiguously orthodox and unafraid to say so.

The question of a female pope has been answered. The answer is no. Any person who becomes pope is also the Bishop of Rome and a bishop must be a priest and priest cannot be female. Period. (Code of Canon Law, 331, 332 and 333)

Most likely a guy who identifies as a girl and who runs a chain of abortion clinics.

Around 12% of the college of cardinals are from Africa, so there is a good chance the next Pope will be black.

Cardinal Sarah would be an incredible choice. But he's pretty old.

For those who are into studying detailed views of cardinals, this is a really good site.

The power structure of the Catholic Church, much like many Western countries now, is beyond repair.

For the Catholics on here, please do not take this as me bashing on your faith. I live in a heavily Catholic community and support many of their causes and charities locally. They do plenty good. I do find the Vatican and larger hierarchy repulsive though.
Trying to have this conversation with my deeply devout Catholic parent's is extremely tough. My parent's walk the walk. They both donate well over 40 hours a week in service of the church, and they donate well above their 10%. I gladly jump in where I can and support our local Catholic charities, but I will do everything in my power to make sure the Vatican (and the Catholic Charities of San Antonio) never get a dime of my money.
I'm right with you.

In terms of a replacement, if the Cardinals want someone more like him then the pick will likely be Tagle from the Phillipines. Very similar.

Sarah is likely going to be considered way too old.

A name to keep an eye on is Pizzaballa (yes his real name). He is currently based in Jerusalem. He could be considered an acceptable middle of the road candidate. Not as liberal as Francis but also not ultra conservative. He was the guy who offered himself as a hostage to Hamas in exchange for the release of Israelis.

As a lapsed Catholic, I just may start going to church again if they bring in somebody that is not a hard core leftist. JP II has always been my exemplar of what a Pope should be.

This. The clergy is not the faith.

The ignorant Catholic bashing on these threads never ceases to amaze…..
For me, I equate the Church with the current pope, just as I equate our government with the party in control. I did not support our government when the socialists were in charge, and I do not support the Church with the current socialist in charge. I would rather give my money directly to causes I support than to the Church when it will just flow to Catholic Charities or whatever left-wing group du jour they want to funnel money to. If that makes me a bad Catholic, albeit a lapsed one, I am content with that. I still have faith, but it does not necessarily reside in the Catholic Church, or the current Pontiff, right now.

Yeah, they will definitely elect a female Pope. She will be chosen from one of the multitude of female Bishops and Cardinals.

I missed the part where it is mandatory I pay to recieve the Body of Christ. I guess our parish pastor is a heretic.

Want to get ahead of this, and point out some of the finest and most orthodox minded Catholics are black priests. If its a rigorous conservative black Pope, will be all for it. Its significant that even among the nearly completely apostate Episcopalians and Anglicans, it is their African bishop contingent that is firmly conservative and pushing back.

Now a female is ludicrous. The Orthodox East would have won the papacy argument at a stroke. Definite apostasy.

If they elect a female that is directly against what the Bible says.

Is this recency bias caused by a bad pope and a relatively ineffective one before that? Or would you have said the same thing during the JP II years?
I mean, we can only view things through the lens of trends. I guess its how you define "recent". JP2 has been dead 20 years.

I don't think its beyond repair because unlike earlier centuries there is no military or even strongly national matters at stake. If a complete reboot of the Curia is needed, it could be done with a strong enough pontiff with relatively little risk to the Church at large.

This is famous but timely: Cardinal Ercole Consalvi, Secretary of State of pope Pius VII, said to Napoleon who threatened to destroy the Church: "You will not succeed, your majesty. Not even we [priests, bishops and cardinals] had been able to do that".

When medical updates shift from prognosis to someone being "in good spirits", it usually isn't a good sign.

Apparently the Vatican TV/Radio office has been "alerted for the eventuality of an extraordinary edition"

Vatican News is reporting the Pope was out of bed today sitting in a chair and ate breakfast after having a restful night. Clinical condition seems to be improving.

I'd say that doesn't make you a bad Catholic because I don't think you can actually consider yourself a Catholic with thoughts like this. It's like saying you're Christian but you worship the Devil or something. It's incongruent.
