Fire him.

He is still going to implement racist policies.

He is a racist.

Is Abbott consciously aware of what he is up to? Is Trump? That might be the direction to go given such willful intention to "continue as doing". Its certainly not a myth that Texas intended to end DEI. This goes against the spirit of that.

Likely unpopular opinion: I'm actually OK with targeted recruiting, as long as the recruits get zero favor in the admissions process.

This can be back-tested for compliance pretty easily.

There is nothing wrong with wanting more of one type of demographic at the school. There is everything wrong with changing admission standards one iota based on race.

This was not by accident.

Malicious negligence by Sharp and Perry for picking Sharp.

At a minimum, Welsh is going against the intent of the Governor's mandate. If this zoom is actually from 2025, he needs to be called on the carpet and told to either get on board or send in your resignation.

DEI in any form other than perhaps teaching about it as a failed, racist policy in the modern era of American politics has no place in our University.

Confirmation that A&M has completely lost its way. Marxist ideology permeates the school, just like in Austin.

Wow, I've given Gen.Welsh the benefit of the doubt until now, but he is just another commie. He's basically telling the staff, don't have DEI in the title of the org, and you can do whatever you want.

Absolutely pathetic. Dude needs to be ****canned tomorrow.

Me too. But this clip sounds like he is trying to comply by only the letter of the law and subvert the law if at all possible. Do it anyway you possibly can if you can get away with it. This makes me feel totally different about him. I'm on board with getting rid of him.

Unless, as some posters have pointed out, this is an old video, right after the law was passed. I can see how it was confusing, and he was trying to reassure confused staff.
If this is from 2025, then this is bad.

He goes in to list all sorts of course that a specifically exempt from the law along with academic research, libraries, and databases. In fact I don't think he's posted anything that is explicitly a violation of the law.

I grew up in Austin in the 70s and 80s but loved that the Aggies seemed to be the true conservative underdogs in the state of Texas.

it's very disheartening to see so many rabid leftists not just on the board but in the upper echelons of Texas A&M Dubai Campus and in College Station.

Why can't the same alumni that raised 600 billion dollars for the football team act to make the campus non-woke?!?!

Someone show him the new "dear colleague" letter.

New MAGA Dear Colleague Letter

Discrimination on the basis of race, color, or national origin is illegal and morally reprehensible. Accordingly, I write to clarify and reaffirm the nondiscrimination obligations of schools and other entities that receive federal financial assistance from the United States Department of Education (Department). This letter explains and reiterates existing legal requirements under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Equal Protection Clause of the United States Constitution, and other relevant authorities.

In recent years, American educational institutions have discriminated against students on the basis of race, including white and Asian students, many of whom come from disadvantaged backgrounds and low-income families. These institutions' embrace of pervasive and repugnant race-based preferences and other forms of racial discrimination have emanated throughout every facet of academia. For example, colleges, universities, and K-12 schools have routinely used race as a factor in admissions, financial aid, hiring, training, and other institutional programming. In a shameful echo of a darker period in this country's history, many American schools and universities even encourage segregation by race at graduation ceremonies and in dormitories and other facilities.

No offense, but this is so incredibly stupid. You should be be ashamed.

Abbott was well qualified to be governor, and won based on merit. it has nothing to do with DEI.

You can dislike him and not think he's doing a good job or conservative enough, but when you say he's a "DEI hire" you are showing you are either ignorant of his qualifications or ignorant of what that term means. Either way, a sad look.

Seems to me the video creates a clear blueprint on how the DEI ban needs ti be modified and updated, no?

Fix everything our liberal Prez spoke of NOW while in session. Fire him yesterday if it is proven he's working around our law.

Simple solutions are simple.

As I said on the now deleted premium thread, the student body % of white students has been stagnant since around 21/22 according to the university's own numbers. Black and Asians have seen double digit percentage increases and Hispanics have been in the +5% range each recent semester.

Now that the overall admittance numbers have been frozen for the time being, the only way for the university to keep pursuing these minority focused increases is by taking % away from someone else.

If they are discriminating on race for admissions moving forward, they won't be able to hide it.

I am well aware of who Abbott is and he is not fit to be governor of Texas. Most DEI hires have a degree and win elections too. He is a milquetoast conservative that was smart enough to nominally hitch his wagon to Trump when the tides started turning. That was a smart move, I'll give him that. Even if he is not ideologically inline with Trump unless forced into the position, he knows where his bread is buttered. Makes sense seeing as he is from the same Bush Swamp destroying our state, especially right now in the House which he refuses to take a stand on. Those folks know how to snake their way into retaining power.

"Won based on merit" is a hilarious assertion with the GOP machine in Texas. They enjoy a primary turnout rate of under 20%, which makes the job their preferred candidate winning that much easier. Especially when the only primary challengers are 2 women, a centrist, and a joke TEXIT candidate whose middle name is legally "SECEDE". The candidates you see in the general are not the actual will of the people, just a preset list that the GOP decides you should choose from because they control the purse and very few individuals have the means to actually compete against this.

It seems you are the one who does not understand what Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion means. Greg Abbott has enjoyed the same lifetime benefits of any person who qualified for affirmative action. He will forever have an asterisk next to his name. Virtually no different than Kentaji Brown Jackson, but he says the platitudes you like to hear so you continue to support him while he achieves nothing of substance and allows rot to fester all over this great state.

He is just one in a long list of GOP candidates that they trot out to toe the line on party policy and act as a shield so they can say the stupid line of "Dems are the real racists/bigots"

Did anyone actually watch the video?

He relaying information of how the General Counsel is advising to apply the anti-DEI law the house passed. He said that student groups are still allowed (presumably under freedom of speech, my words not his, and even though I am against DEI I would agree here) and that the law states that research can still be conducted that would have been regarded as DEI. That's literally all that video is.

Those screen shots are from the Texas A&M School of Law that provides students guides/books on how DEI applies to law.
Its the other things he says and insinuates.

"I am not pleasantly surprised by anything in this bill"
Paraphrasing...but it's pretty close...As long as you don't have DEI in the title, you can recruit exactly how you want
It's clear where his sympathies lie.
Exactly.

Doesn't "targeted recruiting" = DEI in a nutshell? He was saying you can still do that.
No, not necessarily.

Targeted recruiting is trying to appeal to a certain subset of people. It could be used to indicate targeting with DEI but it targeting people that live in or are from a certain area, attended a certain University or type of program, are part of an industry trade group, have certain certifications, etc. are all examples of it. It's a very broad term.

There isn't anything significant in this accusation...it's just Harrison stirring **** up like he likes to do.
I'm sorry, but this is just bull***** Everyone knows exactly what "targeted recruiting" means.
Then you already had your mind made up because what I said is the fact of the matter.

Note that I didn't say it could NOT mean DEI, just that the phrase could mean any of several things.
